Make sure they are all bagged and boarded. While you do that take inventory of the comic title and issue number. This app can speed up the inventory process as you can just scan the barcode.

After that leave them to your kids. Unless your father is sitting on some seriously rare books these won't be worth what you may or may not be thinking. These will be worth quite a bit for next generation.
I only know CLZ Comics Database which allows you to scan barcodes but it's pretty expensive – $15 per year after a 7-day free trial.
This, CLZ Comics? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.collectorz.javamobile.android.comics&hl=en_US
There's a few other ones. I edited my post, that might change your answer.
You'll want to get the CLZ Comics app for either iOS or Android. I believe they've got a desktop app and other options on their website, as well.
Yes and no. There is software, such as CLZ Comics for Android and iOS that will scan barcodes and allow you to organize the collection, but it doesn't include guide value. At the very least it should give you something much easier to look through than a few dozen boxes of comics though.
There's also equivalent desktop software but it's pricier and will require some kind of barcode scanner hardware (or smartphone software).
