What is Reddit's opinion of ComicScreen - ComicViewer?

Comic Screen is a really good comic reader for Android. It's free and supports almost any format. It has some ads, but they'll never annoy you while reading.

Just use any app that supports opening files via SMB by streaming it, the app that I know available on Android can do this flawlessly is Comic Screen, for iOS I use ComicShare though this app doesnt support streaming it, so it download the comic file first before you can view it so free up some space if you plan to use this. For Windows, I use CDisplayEX.

to access it while outside your local network, I suggest hosting a VPN on your NAS so you can connect to it directly, you can also use Zerotier as well if your ISP is under strict NAT.

Looks interesting but I don't download anything that "Contains ads" or has any " in app" purchases besides a full program price that is clearly articulated under read more. Fuck installing anything with a subscription. Fuck overpriced invasive software. Fuck the king.

Is there a way to use this without paying or a link that isn't on the play store that actually tells you exactly what you are downloading onto your personal device?

I despise advertisement and do not trust any app that puts more of that shit on my phone.

Perfect viewer is amazing and if they could get a decent non local storage viewing option going I would gladly throw them $ bucks.

But this looks like a fucking rip off, I can't even see how much it costs on their webpage. I can read local comics free just fine, I do not know their interface but their company is okay with shitty advertising practices, does it cost less than 2-3 bucks bc google apparently gave me some free money that will expire soon so wasting it on this seems like maybe an okay deal but If this program wants access to my location it can suck it.

While a very nice app, I found another that works for me much better. I appreciate the suggestion though.

Ha, as someone who has only spent hours on this issue, I have some recommendations:

1. ComicScreen: I've finally settled on this one, for one main reason - I'm trying to take take advantage of my huge Acer Chromebook 15's screen to be able to read comics with two pages up at once. This is the only comic reader that accurately displays two pages at once. Thus, I'm able to preserve Bryan Lee O'Malley's wonderful layouts in Scott Pilgrim, etc. It also allows for a default crop, so you can crop out blank page margins, if wanted. The main con of ComicScreen is that the file selection is SUPER utilitarian. It doesn't have built-in Google Drive access, so you have to download the files beforehand, and then locate them with ComicScreen's browser.

2. Material Comic Viewer Pro: If reading two pages at once isn't a priority, this is the way to go. Very friendly menus, great cloud service access, etc, etc. It's what I use on my phone, where viewing two pages would be ridiculously impossible. There's also a free version with ads, but developers need to get paid.

3. Google Play Books: If I'm buying comics, I'm doing it here. It has cool features, like: It automatically displays both pages if your laptop/tablet is in landscape mode, for example. In supported comics, there's a nifty Bubble Zoom feature too.

I've also played with Bubble, Comic Reader, and Astonishing Comic Reader. I've settled on the 3 that I have numbered, but definitely give a bunch a try.
