I had the hardest time finding an Android app that I liked, but I found Cross Stitch Thread Organizer and it's perfect. You don't have to manually input every color like the one I was using haha. It's $1.46 (In Canadian, probably less in USD.) but it's well worth it.
I LOVE Thread Organizer!
I used quite a lot other stuff before (Excel, Access, Google Docs and other apps), but this one has everything I've ever wanted out of such an app: Thread-, fabric and project management, color matching, a shopping cart, fabric calculator, ... I haven't counted, but there must be at least 20 or so vendors supported at the moment. Once I've sent the developer a mail that I was missing a few lists and the developer updated the app on the same day. 11/10 would recommend.
This android app is able to convert every thread I know existing to every other vendor with great accuracy. And it has lots of other features, too. I love it!
This one was created by one of our own, U/PM_ME_YOUR_CANINE. I use it and love it. The dev is very receptive to tweaking it and fixes any bugs right away. It's very user friendly and has everything already entered into it, every big name, and she will add what you need. It rocks!
u/LordLibidan did an excellent review of them last month. u/PM_ME_YOUR_CANINE has added/is adding them to our favorite thread organizer, so I got to go get that update. :)
I'm excited!
As the developer of Thread Organizer I'd be great if you shot me the details that WinStitch/MacStitch got, too. (Names and exact color) The users would surely appreciate it.
if you have an Android phone, look for this in the store, it's awesome!! It was designed by our own u/pm_me_your_canines. You can enter what you have and then it will show you what you don't have so you can use it as a shopping list for what you need. It covers a ton of floss brands and the designer is very responsive to any additions you might want. I entered all my floss, the whole DMC regular ones and as many of the specials that I had, and I found I had mislabeled 3 as DMC that weren't. So useful and very user-friendly!!
There's also this if you are running Android and want to use your phone. Made by one of us. :)
I've always been intrigued by memory wire, how do you use it?
For android "Thread Organizer" is amazing and the developer is a member of this community. When I had an issue with it I just pm'd her here and got a quick response. Can't beat that service!
That's a whole lot of floss for that price. where did you get it?
I asked myself the same question, so I made an android app for organizing and color searching and some other stuff.
I've used Thread Organizer for quite some time now and am very happy with it.
It's very straightforward to use, doesn't need obscure permissions like a lot of other apps and is also able to do much more than only tracking of floss: Project tracking, fabric tracking, Floss replacement based on color, ...
I've sorted them by number and stored them in a tower of clip-on storage boxes (basically boxes where you can stack box for box and use them as lid for the box below). Blue boxes for common floss, red for multicolors and gradient ones, ... Looks quite nice, easy to transport and keeps everything at one place. (At ~500 skeins it got very chaotic before)
I manage my floss catalogue in the android app by /u/PM_ME_YOUR_CANINE.
Those two things combined I'm pretty satisfied with my storage now. Thousand times better than throwing the bobbins into a big bag every time and then searching through the whole pile everytime.
It's not a website but I've mentioned this app previously on here, Thread Organizer, and if you have an Android device it works wonderfully for not only organizing your thread collection but it also has a compare colors feature. If you press and hold on a color it switches modes to show you what colors are similar in other brands. I know the developer is a member here but I forget their user or I'd tag them!
If you've got an Apple device I used to use this on my iPad before finding the Android one. It has a compare feature in it too!
Cross stitching. It's a great finger exercise and contrast to my usual work. Relaxing, therapeutic even. My newest project takes over 500 different colors that need to be tracked by me. A spreadsheet would have been ok, but quite underwhelming.
The app is very uncreatively called Thread Organizer. Since then I've added quite some other functionalities, lots and lots of different vendors from all around the world. People really seem to like it, what makes me happy.
Most of my fabric is stored in a large plastic tote with the larger pieces towards the bottom and the ornament/bookmark/sample sized pieces in a ziplock bag. Each piece of fabric has a label attached to it that states the size, type, fabric count, brand/retailer/dyer, and any other relevant information. The floss inventory app I use (thread organizer app, currently android only) also has fabric inventory features that include adding a picture of the fabric for color reference so I use that to keep track of what I have and for narrowing down which fabrics I may want to use for a specific project.
There are apps for that! If you are on Android, check out Thread Organizer in the Play store. I love it and the dev has added many more thread lines since I first started using it, it's not just for DMC! :)
I use the Thread Organizer app on my phone although I believe it's currently only on Android. It lets you track colors, assign colors to specific projects, and create shopping lists that can be general or project specific. It has premade lists for several different brands of floss as well as the ability to manually enter flosses that aren't on one of the premade lists. It also has some basic project tracking features (% done, floss, fabric, goals/deadlines) as well as letting you track fabric stash and make a list of patterns you own. There are also some calculators and unit convertors in the app. There is a bit of a learning curve but that is going to be true of most stash tracking apps.
For other options Lord Libidan has a list of the top apps with options for both iOS and Android.
If you want to use an app, Thread Organizer works very well. It has lists for Anchor and DMC and probably some others, and you can sort them into different projects. Also has a fabric inventory, auto conversion chart, and other tools. I found it pretty easy to use.
Aside from that, I also just keep a list of all my threads in a Google Sheet with separate columns for separate boxes of threads.
Lord Libidan also has a DMC Inventory Sheet that's free to download as well. It's set up with color swatches and everything and also has a search tool at the top of the spreadsheet so you can easily look up the threads you're searching for.
I use the Cross stitch Thread Organizer app. It tracks all of your floss, including having the option to manually enter stuff that isn't on one of the ~160 included lists. It also has the options for tracking fabrics, making a list of what patterns you own, and tracking projects including making project specific floss lists and use those to create project specific shopping lists. There are auto conversion charts for converting between different brands and a unit converter calculator as well. The only extra functionality I'm seeing in Thread Stash is the website and I'm assuming you can sync your info between the app and site. Thread Organizer doesn't have that. I'm not finding an app called Thread Keeper so I can't speak for that.
Cross-stitch Thread Organizer in the Play store. I love it, it really helped me early on and I worked with the dev to add more thread lines and the DMC specialties I had so much of, haha!
I use thread organizer on my android. It keeps track of threads, patterns, projects, fabrics, wip completion percentages. You can make shopping lists, project lists. I love it!
Its called Thread Organizer by IsegrimStitches. Its not free, but you can use it to track thread, fabric, projects, shopping lists, etc. (I only use it for thread though) I really like it.

This reminds me that I need to go in to /u/PM_ME_YOUR_CANINE's app and update with my new stash addition.
She (They? He?) is really receptive to suggestions. When I got my GMIL's stash I found all sorts of odd/rare flosses that they added to the app, when the ones that are still in production. I don't think I a lot of people are really planning out big stitches with flosses that stopped being made 20-25 years ago.
A Little self promotion: My app Cross Stitch Thread Organizer does this too. You can calculate the measurements and choose a matching frame size to view how it would look on your wall.
I use the Thread Organizer app (I think it's currently only on android). It takes a while to get everything set up and there is a bit of a learning curve but that's true for any decent stash tracking app.
If you want to look at some other options Lord Libidan has a list of the best apps based on reviews on the relevant OS app store.
>it doesn't list the floss by number properly (it's listed by number, but each batch is separate, so it's not one long list of 1-4045).
I'm curious what you mean by this. Most organizers I've looked at follow DMC's floss lines for deciding which color to put on each list. I wouldn't expect 4045 to be on the same list as 01 because 4045 is part of the coloris line of floss and DMC considers that a separate line from the regular color line. DMC has color lists for their floss lines here.
thread organizer (android) will show you similar shades of any single color.
Here's the link for the app! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.isegrim.threadorganizer
Thread Organizer is great and well worth the dollar.
You mean for keeping track of thread? I use Thread Organizer for Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.isegrim.threadorganizer) and it is stupendous for my purposes.
It looks like Thread Organizer on Android. It's the greatest app ever.

Cross Stitch Thread Organizer. Tracks a gazillion brands, and has color chips for DMC.
I gibe it ☆☆☆☆☆
Are you looking for an Android or iOS app?
I created Thread Organizer some while ago because I struggled with the same problem you currently have right now and am always looking for ideas for improvement.
For storing I use stackable plastic boxes with compartments, something similar, but bigger like [those](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Practical-Adjustable-Plastic-24-Compartment-Storage-Box-Case-Bead-Rings-Jewelry-Display-Organizer-Container/32756981705.html](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Practical-Adjustable-Plastic-24-Compartment-Storage-Box-C... I got from a local thrift shop.
What do you need in a tracker?
I made this some time ago and could expand it. It's for android, though.
