I love this game. I played it quite a lot back when it was an OUYA exclusive, and I am really happy to see that it made the conversion from gamepad-only to touch-screen interface.
I didn't see a link to the game in the review, so here it is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.bossastudios.ddd.paid&hl=en
It has a fantasy/rpg look and style, and some very obvious dungeon-crawler influences, but it is important to understand that at the heart of it, this is a rhythm game. Success in battle is all about watching for visual hints and learning the correct rhythm to defeat enemies. When you get good at it it almost starts to feel dance-like.
It is also worth mentioning that although the early versions of the game were full of "Coins" IAP, the current version has wisely stripped out all that garbage, and now you just earn coins and things by playing.
The difficulty curve is pretty good, and I always had enough fun to keep me coming back even to the later more frustrating levels.
The music and sound is great, and really reinforces the rhythm of the gameplay.
I've got three where I can't decide which one gave me the best enjoyment for it's price. Those are:
Deep Dungeons of Doom - a 2D-dungeon crawler with light RPG-elements that I've really started to love once I understood its mechanics. I would like to write more about it but I think it's best you try it for yourself. If you don't like the game you can luckily get it refunded.
HOOK - One of the most impressive puzzle games that I've played. Its minimalistic artstyle and sound design are really well done. Paired with the intelligent way the puzzles are designed makes it a really satisfying feeling when you solve them.
PUZZLE PRISM - With a gameplay inspired by TETRIS, just on a 2 by 2 grid and in 3D, PUZZLE PRISM is well suited to be played in short sessions or, because of its addicting nature, for far longer than just one game (with one and a half hour being my longest). The soundtrack is also very great: encouraging yet exciting once you're in a situation where the game gets intense.

Haven't seen anyone mentioning it, but I'd go for Deep Dungeons of Doom. Extremely simple and extremely addictive.
