Is this the one you mean?

That seems more for playing, less for referencing. It doesn't seem like you can look at the whole dial all at once...
Thanks to the x-wing community, this game is VERY proxyable!
What you need:
Item | Quantity | Total Cost |
---|---|---|
The Force Awakens Core Set | 1 | $39.95 USD |
FFG Bases | 2 | $15.90 USD |
Dice Pack | 1 | $7.95 USD |
Dials for X-Wing | * | FREE |
X-Wing Squadron Builder | * | Free |
Total Price: $63.75
What you get:
Ships - The Base packs come in many different colors (all the same price). So you can mix and match. The bases are all you really need to simulate a ship. So these are a must. I wouldn't mess around trying to make your own bases.
Ship Dials - The dials for x-wing app is the GO TO app to manage your dials. There is no need to attempt to make your own especially when this app exists and is free. Just make sure you have an android phone (which is probably already do).
List Building - There are many apps and web sites. I included the app that I use b/c it has some really nice features. If you want to print your list, it can export to a PDF. But why waste the paper?
Tokens - The only thing you really need to print are extra tokens. Heck, you don't have to print them (except for bombs), you could just cut up little squares and write on them if you like. Here are the different types of tokens:
Common
Rare
Bombs
Bombs are probably the most important to get 'right' as the size of these makes a difference in the game. You could just buy an acrylic set and be done with it: Team Covenant Bomb Set - $34 USD
You could also buy acrylic tokens instead of proxying them. But that will increase the price. Its up to you.
Dice - I personally like having physical dice, so purchasing an extra set from FFG is the right way to go. Arguably, purchasing 2 core sets is also very common to get the extra dice plus u get a different damage deck and different ships (TIEs vs TIE FO & T-65 vs T-70). But I am trying to go the cheapest route. If you decide you don't like it, than its much easier to sell 1 core set instead of 2 ;)
If you don't want to spend $8 USD on dice, you could buy the FFG dice app $4.99 USD
Summary - If you have a 3D printer and a 2D printer, you could proxy EVERYTHING. I would still suggest using the apps so you reduce the time it takes to have enough stuff to play. But I think in terms of your time and cost, the items I have listed are the best bang for your buck. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Happy Flying!
