Renames photos and videos according to rules you set, triggered automatically or at your command. No more DSC123.jpg and IMG_201601061234 etc! I tried Tasker, even tried the subreddit for help but it's just too complicated, needing to use a terminal to maybe get it done. This makes it so quick and easy.
I use it to change all photos to use yyyy-mm-dd hh.mm.ss.jpg based on the exif date, so everything sorts nicely. Also works for videos, using Last Date Modified if no Exif.
Best of all, you tell it which folders to monitor and what name pattern to look out for. Plus it will also move changed files into different folders. I want all my photos in one place and videos in another.
Quick Tips to save you time:
My name capture patterns are IMG_.jpg VID_.mp4 DSC*.jpg and ?????.mts
rename to yyyy-MM-dd HH.mm.ss The upper and lower cases are important!
ALSO:
The free app is feature compete but this second link is a donation for the DSC Auto Rename application. I bought this immediately because I've spend countless time manually selecting and renaming files in QuickPic and no longer have to!
Concerning the image naming convention, have you tried using the DSC Auto Rename app from Google Play Store yet? It might fix that issue for you, but I haven’t tested it personally.

DSC Auto Rename
I just hate that "DSC_####.jpg" filename that Xperia phones output, so this app auto renames all the photos and videos right after they were saved to whatever I want, like "day_time.jpg".
Not by default, but an app like this could do it.
I just found DSC Auto Rename, and it works pretty well on some test pictures and videos I took.
maybe DSC Auto Rename
Thanks, Cazuniq. The app is found here (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ro.ciubex.dscautorename&hl=en). I found it very useful.
