It does have an app, it's free to use.
The app is fine. It gives you basic temperature controls and the ability to trigger "Home" and "Away" from the app.
The app will also tell you the temperatures of all the sensors as well as what equipment is running.
Yup. I've used both the classic app and the new ecobee3 app. (I have a last gen ecobee thermostat but the API the app communicates with works with both apps.)
Ecobee3: Android, iOS, Windows Phone.
Ecobee has an open API, allowing other devices to integrate with it: SmartThings, IFTTT, Vera (Z-Wave, what I use), etc.
There are three (main) competing standards: Insteon, ZigBee, and Z-Wave, each with their pros/cons.
The current interface on the app I downloaded looks like the second image at this link which is the same as the interface on the current OS on older models:

The screen ratios of the older to newer models are different. The older models (voice control and older) have a rectangle shape screen and the newer models (premium and enhanced) have square screens. You can compare pics of them at this link:
what about the alarms section in https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ecobee.athenamobile
