We did do a mobile version in the past: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SongGameDev.EleTD
It's not the same caliber as this game whatsoever but for fun on the run it should do.
Element TD (the W3 map) is now on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SongGameDev.EleTD&hl=cs
I've been playing Element TD (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SongGameDev.EleTD) for a few days. It's actually a pretty great tower defence game in the spirit of the Warcraft III custom maps from the olden days.
No micro transactions what so ever.
I don't know when this was released, so can't tell if it's "new" but I saw while just browsing around the Play Store (my favorite hobby).

Looks like an attempt at remaking the classic Warcraft 3 custom map.
Not Legion TD, but there's Element TD.

TD that is now free on sale supposed to be good :)
>as it鈥檚 the only team to not be acquired by the company that built a base game.
How about Element TD, a Warcraft 3 custom game. Now a standalone Android app, but also a Dota 2 mod.
Stanley Parable, originally a free mod. Now has a retail game.
Black Mesa Source, has a free release. Retail game now, forced to rename by Valve, still not associated with Valve directly.
Insurgency, another Half Life 2 mod to full retail game not owned by Valve.
Killing Floor and Red Orchestra, both by Tripwire who now make full games on them, not purchased by Unreal.
Your rule is wrong.

176 hours on Steam version. I still haven't unlocked all levels.
Absolutely my favorite tower defense game. I really enjoyed the RPG aspect along with the customization settings. Adaptive graphics setting will lower graphics settings temporarily when massive amounts of monsters are on screen.
Next favorite TD is Sanctum series, because it adds FPS during enemy waves plus multi. On android i'm trying to get into Element TD which feels similar to Gemcraft.
> Modding has been free since its creation as far as I'm aware so why change that now?
I'm gonna copy one of my other comments about why I disagree that mods have always been free:
>Team Fortress (For quake), Counter-Strike (for Half Life), Day of Defeat (also for Half Life), Garry's Mod (for Half Life 2), DayZ (for arma 2) are all mods that turned into commerical games.
Then the guy said those were all purchased by the developers, (except Gmod), so here were more examples

And if we're talking about scope, then the easiest example would be the Team Fortress 2 workshop. Appearnlty third party add-ons (mods) have been a thing for Microsoft Flight Simulator for a long time too: https://www.pcgamesn.com/flightsim/best-microsoft-flight-simulator-x-add-ons but I'm not big on that
