I'm extremely fond of F-Stop Pro. I've been using it for a while and I'm super happy with it. Absolutely worth paying the $5 for the Pro version.

Paid app, but easily the best gallery app I've seen. It's super fast and has a smart album feature which allows you to set rules (i.e. "taken after 1/1/2016") and automatically group photos into a new album.

I use, and love, F-Stop Gallery Pro. It has lots of features, including folders; you may want to try the free version to see what you think.

I use F-Stop Gallery Pro, and it has several ways you can play videos, including setting VLC to always be used.

You might want to look at its free version to get an idea of what it can do.

Simple Gallery Pro is one of the top gallery apps out there, it isn't just a random one. We will see what will the feedback be.
