I believe he is referring to this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mc.fixitformiband2 it says band 2 but I'm sure I ha e seen others say it works for band 3 which similar to band 4. So you might get lucky and it will work. Ot essentially just resets the Bluetooth settings on the band.

You can try this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mc.fixitformiband2 says MiBand 2 but supposed to support 3 as well. You can also reset network connections in android settings. Which clears all Bluetooth, mobile and Wi-Fi connections. Mobile will auto connect. Will need to authenticate and save wifi networks. And repair bluetooth

Can also try disabling Wi-Fi and toggling Bluetooth. Try again.

Another option is resetting network connections on device. Note this will forget all saved wifi and Bluetooth connections.

Alas this is not an easy issue to fix. 1. I would see if you can reinstall the Mi fit app on your Dads phone and try logging in with the phone number instead of the account name. 2. Only thing I know so far: Fix it for Mi Band 2, You won't be able to use official app though.
