But this is the SYMPTOM of the problem... I for example, use on my phone Folder Player specifically so that it will ignore the metadata and just use the organization that I already have. But yes, file-format scemes like metadata, or tags have a way of locking in participation from others. That's why I like a format-independent approach... I don't want my organization of my files to change just because I switch from one music player to another.
I use Folder Player.
My only complaint is that it's maybe too minimalist (basically doesn't show album art, no tag editing interface). But for the basic job of playing music and letting me navigate by folder as God intended, it's fine.
My wife and I exclisively use Folder Player fro music. Can you add support for that? Great work so far!
We also use Hangouts Dialer on our GPS devices (they are just phones with a data plan). Can this app be recognized for calls?

Did you try Folder Player or Music Folder Player?
Musicolet Music Player also allows you to shuffle play all songs under a folder, but I don't have 20K songs in my phone.
Found one. Called Folder player. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.folderplayer&hl=en
I like Folder Player. The interface is very simple: Open the app, browse to your music folder, press play.
Supports playlists and multiple music formats including FLAC.
Freeware version is truly free. No ads.
Pro version has unlimited playlists and is $2.99
