Garmin Pilot also has a free trial for Android.

It's not quite up to par with the iOS version, however I truly believe this is a better EFB solution for an Android device compared to DroidEFB or FltPlanGo.
I need it for running Garmin Pilot primarily. Everything else I use it for is extra, mostly time wasting. The 8" screen would be a good size. I'm on Project Fi for now, and it's saving me a ton of money at about $30/mo for 2 devices, but I'm on Wifi most of the time. I need access to LTE, but I don't use much data... for the time being.
I've heard good things about Garmin Pilot too
I've heard a lot of good things about Garmin Pilot, and from trying it with the free trial on my android phone (S6 Edge+), it works really well. It's basically "the Foreflight" of android imo. It has a 30 day free trial, so give it a shot.
iFly GPS is pretty good too. I used that for a few a month also. It's a bit rough around the edges, but had all the features I really needed as a PPL.
If you don't like either of those, just try out anything you can find. Almost all EFBs have a trial of some sort, usually 30 days.
I personally use an old iPad 2 I bought years ago and never used before becoming a pilot, but if I didn't have that iPad before hand, I would of went with Garmin Pilot on some sort of android tablet.
EDIT: My favorite thing with iFly was georeferenced plates included in the trial (and presumably the base subscription). It's the biggest feature I miss, and I'm fighting off the urge to buy Foreflight Pro just for that.
I use it and I really like it, my understanding is the Andriod version is a few features behind the iOS version, I use iOS. It can use GPS internal, or you can get a Bad ELF: https://bad-elf.com/collections/plug-in-gps or you can use it connected to a Garmin 430, 650, (With the flightstream box or SD card) (or the large screen versions) also available is the external GDL 39: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/93601
Something I didn't realize, is that the GDL 39 is not compatible with ForeFlight likewise the Stratus devices for ForeFlight are not compatible with Garmin Pilot, committing to that hardware makes switching between more difficult.
I'm not sure you can go wrong with either platform. I recommend installing whichever on your mobile phone also as a backup.
