While not completely the same.. Heroes and Castles 2 scratched that itch for me for a while.

You can choose what kind of hero you become and slay hordes of enemies.

It has multiplayer too, I only played local cause I couldn't find anyone online.

not a survival base builder, more like a survival base defense, but I really enjoy Heroes and Castles 2. It's a 3rd person action defense game where you attack waves of increasingly difficult enemies with the help of units you build. Takes a device with fairly decent specs to play.

Heroes and Castles 1&2 ABSOLUTLY AMAZZZING ONE OF A KIND GAME! Think Mount and blade/ hack and slash/ action rpg/ unite stratagy placement/ base buliding/ Dark souls 3 difficulty/ Co-op + VS/ OFFLINE AND ONLINE

I highly recommend both Heroes & Castles these are both consle worthy if you are looking for some hardcore challenge and are into dark souls this may be up your ally granted controls can be hard to get used to but once you do it's fine plus always get a Bluetooth controller.
