There are only four 5-star reviews of the Howl app on Google Play. Two of them were made by Midroll employees.
The Google Play page, go to the final reviews page (ie the earliest reviews) to see them
Dain Miller's 5-star review / Dain Miller is a developer for Midroll
Daniel Osit's 5-star review / Daniel Osit is the GM of Howl.fm
I emailed Daniel about this, but got no response. I heartily encourage all of you to do the same and share your feelings about this with him. His contact info is on Midroll's "About Us" page.
This whole situation is just... sad.

Something I've wondered about Howl, Uncle Bertie's was the flagship show. Jemaine Clement is a legitimately big name. Uncle Bertie's launch was covered by Splitsider, LA Times, stuff.co.nz, The Guardian, Paste Magazine and USA Today. But, the first 3 eps that were released for free on Earwolf Presents only have 30,000, 25,000 & 25,000 listens respectivly. I'd assume an even lower number of those listeners continued to the paywalled eps.
What I'm wondering is, how popular is Howl? The Google Play Store has Howl at 50,000-100,000 installs (no clue about number of Apple installs). But, Howl also has a lot of shitty reviews on the Play Store, so they probably lost some proportion of subscribers after the free first month trial.
Maybe I'm just nosy, but I'm curious if Howl is successful. If it wasn't a success, they've probably invested too much into it at this point to just let it die like they did with Wolfpop.
