Allows you to listen to your Most Played Songs, Most Played Artists, and Recently Added Songs. I believe the song rating system would also do what you need. You could rate all the songs you like to hear as 5 stars and then only play 5 star songs. There's also a Smart DJ function that will pick music you listen to frequently or have rated highly.
There's also a similar artists feature that allows you to view and listen to music by similar artists. Not sure if that would be helpful in your case, but perhaps.
Hi I'm the developer of Jukebox Music Player for Android devices. I'm also an active scrobbler and last.fm user. I'm also a longtime user of Rockbox (I used many Sansas) I actually developed my app to do all the things I used to do with Rockbox plus many more.
My app supports scrobbling. You just go into settings/Last.fm Login Credentials and enter your username and password.
Another Last.fm function I've added in the last few months is the Similar Artists feature. The app queries Last.fm's similar artists data and displays Similar Artists you have on your device. For instance if you were looking at "Alice in Chains" it will tell you artists similar to AiC that are on your device and also ones that are not on your device.
I was skeptical for years about using my phone as a music player. Mainly because I didn't like any of the apps better than Rockbox. So after my last Sansa e200 died, I decided to start making my own app. And I've never looked back..
Allows Last.fm scrobbling. You go to Settings from nav drawer and enter your username/password and enable scrobbling.
If it's not working you'll see an error message. Or you can check your last.fm page to see that the songs are scrobbling properly.
I'm the developer of Jukebox Music Player I like to rate my music the same way so I made this a big part of my app. You can rate each song 1-5 stars. Then you can view lists for each rating. IE you can see a list of all 5-star rated songs, then play only those songs. Or add certain songs from that list to the queue.
The app also uses those ratings (and other factors) to power the SmartDJ feature which selects music based on your ratings and listening habits.
Hello, I'm the developer of a music player app for android called JukeboxPlus.
Here's the link to it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goudysoft.jukebox
I started working on it last fall in my spare time to learn Android development and because I couldn't find a player that would do exactly what I wanted. For many many years I used a Sansa e200 series player running Rockbox firmware. I went through a lot of these things. Over the years they would break in one way or another (I once dropped one in my ice fishing hole). Anyway I loved Rockbox and even helped make a few code changes to it and worked on themes. But then after I wore out another Sansa, I decided to make the plunge to using my phone as my music player.
So I made this player so it would do everything I used Rockbox for and then eventually my goal became to make a full-featured music player with an interface similar in style to Touchtunes and AMI jukeboxes you see in bars, but also with a personal music player usability.
Since I first uploaded it to the Play store in late March, it's been downloaded 228 times.. and I have currently 43 active installs. Not exactly taking off like a rocket :) But it has been picking up a little bit the past 2 weeks so I feel good about that. I haven't really promoted it much. I've posted on a few forums and shared it with my facebook friends that's about it. Seems like a huge challenge to get it to show up in Play searches. Even when typing in "Jukebox Music Player", I gotta scroll through about 100 (mostly unrelated) apps to find mine.
I noticed on here there's a lot of good smart people who I think have valuable opinions on this sort of thing. I've read other music player developers posts and they've gotten some great feedback. I'm hoping I can have a similar experience. I'm hoping to get some feedback about what you look for in a music player app. Maybe some ideas of what I could do to get you to us my player as your daily player.
I believe it has a lot of features that make it unique and some things that you don't find in a lot of music players on the Play store.
Here's some of the things it currently does:
Smart DJ... as you play songs and rate them clicking Smart DJ will use that data to 'intelligently' pick songs for you. This is something I've recently implemented in the app. The reason for this was because I have around 6500 songs on my device and I used to listen to a lot of playlists and a lot of my music goes unheard. But this will create playlists automatically based on your music tastes. I think this feature turned out good and I'm still refining it as I go.
Last.fm scrobbling... this is the newest thing I added just yesterday. You put in your last.fm username/password and the music you listen to gets scrobbled to your last.fm account. I see this requested a lot for other players and I also use last.fm.
Loading playlists created on other devices/PCs. The app will attempt to read a playlist in the m3u or m3u8 format and even if the exact path doesn't match up it can still find the music. Basically it searches the app database for the filename, not the path. So as long as the filename hasn't changed since you created the playlist it will find it. This is useful because I was able to import playlists I had created using Rockbox (which uses a linux style pathname).
Searches... Entering 3 or more characters into search box searches for matching artists/songs and instantly displays them.
Folder browsing... the folder browser will only show folders that contain music. This makes it easy to navigate your folders if you prefer to do it that way.
Browsing by Year... you can see a list of years and how many songs you have from each year. Then you can browse the list of songs or just add all the songs to your queue.
Queue management... there is a queue that holds all the songs that are set to be played. You can manage this queue by moving songs up or down, removing songs, playing a certain song, shuffling it, etc. It can also be saved as a playlist. This is similar to how playlists are created using rockbox.
Song Ratings... you can rate any song from 0-5 stars. these ratings get saved and then are used to set artist ratings. Then you can view a list of 5-star rated tracks (or 3,4,whatever) and then add them to the queue. These ratings are also used by the Smart DJ.
Playcounts are tracked. You can see a ranking of your most played songs and artists and browse from that list. This is similar to what you see on your last.fm profile.
Notification controls. Playback can be controlled from an ongoing notification.
"Add all" button. Any list you happen to be viewing (an album, a year, a genre, an artist, search results, a folder, a playlist, 3-star rated tracks, etc.) all the songs can be queued up with the "Add All" button. There's also an option to clear the queue first, and to shuffle the songs before adding them. That way they don't get added in alphabetical order.
Anyway.. that's a list of some of the features I put in the app to make my life easier... and hopefully yours too. There's some I forgot to mention.
One of my main goals was to make finding music and navigating your music library easy. I wanted there to be many possible ways to get to what you want to see. A lot of players I was trying out just give me a big list of all the artists/albums/songs on my device. With 6500 songs that's a big list to scroll through.
I'm a stickler for editing the meta-tags on my music. It's the most organized part of my life I think. So these ways to browse your library will work best if the tags are correct. There is a tag editor that can be used to update mp3 tags if you need to change something.
Well I guess I'm getting really long-winded here. So I'll just leave it up to you to please try out my app and let me know what you think. I'm open to suggestions. And especially if you find a bug or if (God forbid) crashes... please send me the report. I've gotten 8 of those things so far and they are life savers. I love tracking down a bug, so send me a crash report and I'll fix it.
I'm working on this app whenever I can. I just did the Last.fm scrobbling and now I'm currently working on a sleep timer. So if there's something you want to see in the app. I'll put it on my list. Thanks!
