You probably have the Simple Last.fm Scrobbler* App as well as the Spotify Last.fm App enabled at the same time.
The team is still working on the site and updates about monthly, I don't think it will die so quickly. Anyway, I always recommend to be prepared and backup your scrobbles, just in case: Scrubbler & Listenbrainz
The official app hasn't been updated on android since August 2017, I encourage everyone who still uses it to move on and download Pano Scrobbler.
Simple Last FM Scrobbler. Your search stops here. It caches scrobbles from both music player apps & Spotify. Been using this one for 1.5 years... No issues whatsoever.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adam.aslfms
I use this on my phone with Google Play Music and it works flawlessly.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.peterjosling.scroball
Install. Login. Tell it what apps to scrobble from (it'll find them when you use them) then forget about it. Haven't had an issue yet and I've probably been using it for a year or more. Super simple.
You can remove the ads for 1.99 if you want. I haven't bothered though because I always just let it run in the background.
I use both the Spotify Premium app and Google Play Music to scrobble offline. Spotify Premium has a feature that allows you to download music and play it offline, although - in my experience - you do need some initial internet connection (when you start scrobbling, so when you leave home for instance) to actually make the scrobbling work.
For scrobbling my Google Play Music listening sessions, I use the official Last.fm application. It does not need an internet connection to register your scrobbles and it updates your profile automatically once you are connected.
Edit: fixed the link
I completely stopped visiting Last.fm after they downgraded the site, but I still keep scrobbling because I hope a good alternative to Last.fm will show up - and they certainly will have a way to import your data from Last.fm.
Now I started making backups of my listening history to ListenBrainz and I do hope this project takes off, since MusicBrainz is more trustworthy than Last.fm:
>The project has two main goals: > >Allow users to preserve their existing Last.fm® data. (...) > >Make this incredibly useful music usage data available to anyone who cares to play with it. (...)
I recommend you guys check it out.
Quick answer: Too much monkey business. ;-)

For example I am scrobbling the Solti recording of Wagner's complete Ring des Nibelungen from Deezer at the moment, and the scrobbles use varying artists for each track (178 in total), mostly Wiener Philharmoniker and/or the singers, never Solti or Richard Wagner. Furthermore Last.fm does not know the resulting albums then, so I would have to edit each new scrobble and of course all former scrobbles from this release.
I would suggest pulling all of your info (artists, albums, tracks, cover art, etc) from the MusicBrainz database.
You could probably contribute your code to the ListenBrainz project too, it's supposed to be an open source scrobbling site run by the MetaBrainz Foundation.
The MusicBrainz Documentation says it should be the composer first, then performers listed on the front cover. But people use all sorts of different tagging methods for classical music in real life = on Last.fm, including the labels themselves.
I use Simple Last.fm Scrobbler. I 'pin' the app to make sure it doesn't close in the background to make sure it scrobbles everything. Haven't had any issues with it.
There's a Chrome extension for that: link
If you use a phone app, Pano Scrobbler should cover that.
The artist tag is supposed to be the actual interpret of the specific song. I don't know how it is in Mediamonkey, but in MusicBee it is like that:
You add the interpret of the song to the artist field. There is an artist splitter which allows you to add multiple artists and choose a displayed artist (like "Artist 1 feat. Artist 2"). Then there is a different field for the album artist (which could be "Various Artists" or simply the main artist of the album), but I think the album artist is ignored by Last.fm. Last.fm reads only the first song artist field / displayed artist of a specific song. Now you have the problem, if you have an album with different artists (compilation), Last.fm will create for every single song artist a new album page. This is a common problem: https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/various-artists-compilation-albums-album-artist-tag-not-being-recognised
Probably the only thing you can do is add the album to MusicBrainz with correct tags and hope it will be recognized by Last.fm in the future: https://musicbrainz.org/release/add
You could always install a website blocker and just block last fm until after your tests. Of course this would take more willpower than last fm just IP banning you since you could just turn off the blocker, but it’s a start.
Ditch the official app and use either Pano Scrobbler or Scroball for scrobbling on your phone. Both apps are much more reliable and versatile for scrobbling to Last.fm
My personal preference is Pano Scrobbler, but I've used both apps and you can't go wrong with either.
Back on December 14, 2009--and straight from LFM's on-demand service no one else remembers (if memory's correct, I was looking around for an imeem replacement at the time):
...all of which made the jump to my book-project stockpiles in the years ahead. (Settled on Grooveshark, and stayed on till its 2015 shuttering.)
From <strong>Sonemic/Cinemos/Glitchwave Beta 4 feedback:</strong>
> Note: you can use the beta sites without logging in, but if you want to try out the features for logged in users (rating/cataloging etc.) you must have a RYM account created on or before July 11th. It's not possible to create an account on the beta site and RYM accounts created after July 11th are not available on the beta.
I dont think anything like that will happen, but if it happens its not that big of a deal for me as i export the scrobbles like once per month.
I recommend you to do the same, maybe and hopefully it is not needed, but if it happens you will be really thankfull to yourself when you have a recent backup of the scrobbles. Here is the tool I use. You can also use a second database that does the same as lastfm to keep track of it, that way there is always a backup. An example would be Listenbrainz.
Here is an overview about their Premium features vs. free ones:
https://soundiiz.com/pricing#pricingDetail
Maybe paying $4.5 for one month and then going back to the free account is worth it, but that is up to you to decide. Remember that only exporting as a file is a Premium feature, converting your loved tracks to another streaming site is not, e.g. to a Spotify playlist.
First of all, merging track pages on Last.fm is not possible yet. The duplicates happen because of different spellings. It's enough to write apostrophe ’ instead of ' in your tags and you have two different tracks. It's a known problem and they are working on it.
Now to Musicbee: Of course you have to have your tracks saved on your local storage (mp3 or flac for example) and your Last.fm account connected in the settings. I recommend the plugin Last.fm Playlist Generator, this is pretty easy to use and you can create different sorts of playlists from your Last.fm library.
You can also create auto-playlists without any plugin, you just have to sync your Last.fm playcount with your local MusicBee library (options, plugins, last.fm settings) and use the playcount as a playlist rule.
Like FloatingFeatures said you can only scrobble music that's saved to your library, you can't scrobble streaming songs (using the official app, at least that's what I've read, some say different). You have to hit "scan" on the app in order for the songs to be successfully scrobbled to your profile. However, I've seen on the Support Forum that things are sketchy at the moment, scan button not working, songs not being logged etc...
Some people have suggested using Pano Scrobbler or Scroball in order to successfully play music from Apple Music (which will then be scrobbled to your profile).
Unfortunately I don't use the iOS app, but you would think within the settings of the LFM app (if you don't want to use 3rd party apps) there's a way to link it up to your profile?
You can use Scroball for Android and Web Scrobbler for a computer. I'm not sure if iOS has any apps for that purpose.
Do you want to scrobble songs near you? Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivianuu.nowplayinghistory it uses the Now Playing active listening feature on your Pixel phone, so never miss a track around you
I was getting so frustrated with the official last.fm android app not scrobbling on my long commute to/from work every day. I finally found an app called Scroball that is handling all those scrobbles perfectly (from the description it "Tracks played while offline will be cached and submitted when internet access is available" which is exacly what I needed due to shitty network access on my commute back and forth from work).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.peterjosling.scroball
I've just released an early version of a Scrobbler I've been working on which supports Apple Music, give it a try Scroball on Google Play
last.fm will only track your plays from the moment you linked your spotify to it. although, if you really want your old plays, you could request your old spotify data (takes a while to get) and then import it to last.fm using the universalscrobbler tool
If you go here, scroll down to the bottom where it says, Click the button to start the process of collecting your data. Click the Request button and they will email you a file with your past year worth of listening in a .json file. The email should show up about a week after you request it. You can input the data from that file on here. I believe there is a 2,000 scrobble a day limit though. Also all of your scrobbles will show up as today instead of when you actually listened to them. I haven't found a way to get your entire Spotify history yet sadly.
Maybe it was perfect for you, but was it making any money, or was it dying?
My guess is the site was dying a long slow death and it needs to grow to survive, hence the changes.
Edit: Interesting article about the design http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/remember-last-fm-look-redesigned-music-service/
Here's an article that sheds some light on 'why did Last.fm redesign the website'? "So, last year, and faced with big financial losses, plummeting revenues and job cuts, the CBS-owned service announced it would refocus on its core feature: data. The new redesign is the result of that decision." http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/remember-last-fm-look-redesigned-music-service/
I knew it had to be driven by business reasons, especially with a big corporate owner like CBS. But the last part of the explanation has me totally baffled as a longtime, heavy user of Last.fm who like almost everyone else commenting here, hates the redesign. How can this minimalist ui with MUCH LESS data readily available fit this statement about focusing on data? I normally don't express myself this way, but I have to say this is a true WTF experience for me - I just don't get it! Does anyone see the correlation between this new design and their stated reason for doing it, because I sure don't!!
p.s. Despite using the site since 2010 and accumulating over 159K scrobbles from almost 10K different artists, I quit using the site a few weeks ago after trying out the new design for a day. Without easy access to my listening data, the site is worthless to me, so I simply stopped using it. It's still scrobbling in case I ever want to dig into the new site and by some miracle, find the listening data I'm interested in. But this isn't a redesign - they literally gutted the old site and threw us users a few scraps thinking we'd be satisfied.
I get a lot of new music by jumping down the rabbit hole that is http://everynoise.com. Put an artist you like in, click on a genre name to get a playlist, and you'll no doubt find similar artists that you like.
You can't connect your account, but there are other ways.
Web Scrobbler is a free browser extension that scrobbles many websites, including SoundCloud.
And, the official Last.fm app on Android will be able to scrobble from SoundCloud.
If you're on iOS, sadly there is no way as far as I'm aware.
There's listenbrainz which is open source and there's even a way to import your last.fm scrobbles to it.
But if your issue is just changing your username, you may create a new account. Last.fm is quite constrained in development time and even though I'd like to have the option to change usernames as much as you, it is not a priority (what value would it bring to the platform as a whole? what percentage of users does this affect? and what revenue would it generate?)
The new version of Soundiiz.com can do a lot of conversions with your loved tracks on Last.fm, it can export them in six different file formats or to other streaming sites like Spotify etc.
This would be the link to my Last.fm loved tracks on Soundiiz:
https://soundiiz.com/webapp/playlist/lastfm/autoGeneratedSDZ_lovedtracks
The different options are accessible with the three dot icon. As exporting to a file is a premium feature, you would have to pay for it though.
Well... most of them just popped up on playlists that people from other countries make, deezer's country rankings, appear as related artists of these or foreigner Last.fm user's radios.
But if you're into heavy metal, grindcore and/or not mainstream electronic music, there's a lot of places where these are made.
Btw since you're using foobar2000, there's an Audioscrobbler component, still works like a charm and there's really no need for standalone app.
Maybe foobar2000?
There's a component called: foo_audioscrobbler
And then there's the iPod manager for foobar2000: foo_dop
Perhaps you can transfer the playcount from the iPod to foobar2000 and then it should be able to scrobble through the other component.
P.S. I'm not sure it'll actually works, so I'm sorry for the hazzle if it won't.
If we're talking about the Dark Knight soundtrack, here's how it's credited:
https://musicbrainz.org/release/df486fa0-8fc6-3954-9391-820bca8601de
So at least some of them will be credited properly :)
> it costs about $100/month for a license
That's just what it costs to have access to the live data feed, MB's data itself is licensed as CC0.
If you're fine with not being 100% up to date, there are full db dumps you can download for free.
You could also write an email stating that you'd like to use the live data feed but aren't making any money yet and they might be able to work something out, as hinted at in > We welcome working with companies that are just getting started and we're happy for your support for MetaBrainz to grow as you grow.
It seems Ron Blake has a 12" vinyl single titled Tom Blake, so that is probably why the auto-correction was established. What you see on the redirected page is just a copy of the "correct" page, i.e. scrobbles, listeners, tracks, and albums. But if you disable auto-correction in your personal settings and scrobble to Tom Blake, you should be able to see them there, but not other users with active auto-correction.
You could also check if the artist Tom Blake already exists on MusicBrainz, and if not, add him and his releases there, because Last.fm regularly imports and compares data from there. I can only find a Tommy Blake which is probably not your Tom Blake.
if ever, you can use Pano Scrobble for offline scrobbling. It will save the scrobbles offline and will be scrobbled once you are connected to the internet.
Last.fm created their own scrobbler for Android. It has a low rating on Google Play - don't know why because it seems to do just what it needs to do. It's been a while since I've stopped using it (I stream my music from a server that has a built-in scrobbling service), but when I did, I never experienced any problems.
Try using Finale for last.fm for manual scrobbling. You can search a song/album/artist and it automatically inputs the data for you.
The App I use the office one for last.fm on every other app and I use Simple scrobbler for libre.fm and all my apps
Time for the copy paste.
Ditch the last.fm/spotify connection, use Panoscrobbler and Webscrobbler and enjoy scrobbling in peace.
I use Scroball for all my Android scrobbling needs. It'll scrobble pretty much anything that plays audio, including Amazon Music. That would be my recommendation. Hope that helps you!
In that case, Pano Scrobbler is probably your best bet. It's intuitive and walks you through all the necessary configuration, if your phone requires any special tweaking. Is also extremely reliable for scrobbling most music players.
If you're using Spotify, you should pick one - either rely on their internal scrobbler which is always broken, or use a custom one and disable their internal one. Otherwise you have double scrobbles.
I find the official app to have worked great for me with Google Play Music.
However got tired of GPM (don't have a subscription) and I've wanted to go towards more open-source stuff lately so change my scrobbling app to Simple Last.fm Scrobbler and Vannilla Music. It's a good mix. They are both availlable on f-droid.org too.
There is a new Android app called Scroball that seems to be able to scrobble Apple Music and other sites:
Good question. I believe the way it works is that you primarily scrobble to Libre.fm with their API, and it will forward the deets to Last.fm. You'll have to check your music player to see if it supports Libre. In my case, I use foobar with a sort of hacky way to scrobble to both at the same time.
On Android, you can check out <strong>Simple Last.fm Scrobbler</strong> which supports Libre.fm.
I think I found a solution! Simple Last.fm stores played songs in cache and uploads them to Last.fm when having internet connection. The only downside is that you sometimes have double scrobbles, but that should only happen when you have WiFi connection while scrobbling through Spotify. Edit: Solution to that is disabling the connection with Spotify/Last.fm
Not sure, as I only use the Spotify Android app from time to time on my Samsung Galaxy II and don't have any local files stored on it. That at least works for me, as I only connect it via WLAN.
I guess you could also check the Last.fm forum on Get Satisfaction for more related answers when searching for "android". The external scrobbling app for Android that gets mentioned the most is Simple Last.fm Scrobbler, as far as I know.
I recommend using Simple Last.fm Scrobbler. It lets you edit the scrobble cache before scrobbling to last.fm which is very useful to prevent accidental duplicates and missing scrobbles.
You don't necessarily need to edit a host file to scrobble to libre.fm. There are scrobbling apps that work with both last.fm and libre.fm.
On Android, I use Simple Last.fm Scrobbler, which also supports libre.fm. No rooting needed.
And it scrobbles Spotify now besides others like SoundCloud and Google Play and should have an offline scrobble cache which e.g. the Spotify app does not have: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fm.last.android
Fully quit the Spotify app on all devices you use it on (desktop and mobile), remove last.fm scrobbler from your connected Spotify apps here, wait a bit (10-15 minutes), then reconnect in your last.fm app settings.
OP: If disconnecting/reconnecting didn't work, try the following: close/fully quit Spotify on all devices you use it on (desktop and mobile), remove Last.fm Scrobbler here, wait a bit (the longer the better in my experience but anywhere between 10-15 minutes should be enough), then connect Spotify Scrobbling here.
In most cases this appears to be a sync problem with the Spotify app running on multiple devices and clients. If disconnecting / reconnecting doesn't work the first time round, close / fully quit Spotify on all devices you use it on (desktop and mobile), go here and remove Last.fm Scrobbler from your connected apps, wait a bit (10-15 min.) then re-connect Spotify Scrobbling here.
have you maybe changed your last.fm username?
if not, to get Spotify Scrobbling working again, quit the Spotify app and go here: https://www.spotify.com/us/account/apps/ - find and remove Last.fm Scrobbler, wait a bit (the longer the better in my experience, but 15ish minutes should be enough), connect Spotify Scrobbling here.
as for desktop scrobbling, do you mean the last.fm desktop app? if so, what media player do you use and on which OS (PC or Mac)?
Do you use Spotify? if so, close/fully quit all apps (desktop/mobile). go here and remove Last.fm Scrobbler. wait a bit (the longer, the better in my experience but 15-ish minutes should be enough). then reconnect in your apps settings page. this usually works the first time around. if it doesn't you may have to do it again.
There's a IFTT function that collates your discover Weekly into a 'discover weekly archive' which stops you getting repeats (as discover Weekly won't put any tracks in that you already have in a playlist)
https://ifttt.com/applets/NFRkZeJu-automatically-create-a-discover-weekly-archive
Well, the easiest thing I can imagine is this IFTTT applet. I'm not sure if you'll be able to see it, but it's a very simple recipe:
if Date & Time applet (set to Every Friday at 6 AM),
then Email applet (with the message below)
> Subject: Another week using Last.fm! > > Message: > Check your last week stats here: https://www.last.fm/user/_/listening-report/week
The link works for any user who clicks the link! :)
I'll see if in the -distant- future I can add something like this to the Open Scrobbler. It's a neat idea :)
alternative Android scrobblers: Pano Scrobbler, Scroball.
Not OP, but just some reasons to consider (from a disgruntled Spotify user):
I don't know how it stacks up against other streaming services in terms of user-friendliness though.
Have you checked out rateyourmusic.com? It is the absolute best resource that I've found for music discovery. It's not automatic at all, but once you get involved in rating what you listen to, the recommendations that it presents (under "automatic" link in your profile) are nothing less than stellar! Then add some friends that rate things that you like high, and check out the "charts" tab to mine all kinds of other goodies.
There's been a couple posts about missing Spotify scrobbles. I noticed that my scrobbles stopped on March 9th, and the other posts mentioned it, too. I've been using Spotify and Last FM since 2012, so this is a common occurrence, but it looks like Spotify changed the UI for Last FM since I last had to reconnect.
My scrobbles for the past 5 hours were recorded (I think my most recent listening session), but everything else was lost, unfortunately.
I have found a solution. It is the application called "Scrobbler Music Player". It was deleted from Play Market and only is available as APK https://apkpure.com/scrobbler-music-player/com.lastfmscrobbler.musicplayer
It's very buggy. But is looks like the only solultion to get scrobbles working in MIUI Android 8.1 Oreo.
Spotify excels in third-party integration whereas Apple keeps integrations limited to their walled garden. This is actually one of the key reasons I switched from Apple Music to Spotify: better integrations and Spotify’s playlists and algorithms are objectively better.
Scrobbling from both simultaneously won’t affect much, just your own listening data. FWIW, there is a Premium Duo plan.
https://www.spotify.com/us/account/apps/
Note that you have to do this in the other account, not your current one, so you need to know the login credentials.
There is no Spotify section in Last.fm Scrubbler, but a File Parse Scrobbler tab which recognises the CSV and the JSON format. You can download your Spotify listening history of the last 365 days in the Privacy tab of your Spotify account. If you ask them in an email, you might even get your complete listening history, see the related links there.
Right, they changed it since introducing this feature due to GDPR in May 2018. They also link to more detailed explanations on this page how to get your get your complete listening history by emailing them and give a reason why you need this. For me the problem then was that I had to verify my email address before downloading from the given link, as they still use my outdated Facebook address for that, so verifying did not work.
Furthermore importing it with Lastfm Scrubbler will use the current date and time for the scrobbles due to database restrictions, so you will lose the original dates. But at least the artists, albums and tracks will be added to your profile.
Do not have enough time to read news from different sources? Feedster app can help you solve this problem. One feed for all news from social networks and other sources. More info here: thefeedster.com
That Tears for Fears will be hard to knockout, I’ll give it a good try though.
did you go to https://www.spotify.com/account/apps/ and revoke permission for “last.fm scrobbler”? you don’t need to revoke it for “last.fm player”, since that’s different entirely.
if that hasn’t worked idk
As an FYI, if you have a school email, you can get Spotify Premium and the basic Hulu thing, for $5 a month. It really is a steal. I love my Spotify premium.
Edit: Link here
Oh damn, that's not cool. :( Are you downloading from iTunes program itself? Or have you tried downloading a stand-alone version from a place like File Hippo? Here is a link where you can download version 12.6. Also, tell me if this link helps you at all. It's a shot in the dark, but it may help you download an older version of iTunes.
Check out Next Episode!
It's a service I created about 15 years ago and it's exactly what you're looking for.
It also has an iOS and Android apps, but the website has more functionality (especially related to recommendations and new show discovery).
Let me know!
For Chromecast I use Airfoil which is a 3rd party program that you can use to cast to other devices (also works for Bluetooth speakers etc), and it still lets you scrobble. Not sure if it would work from PS4 though.
ListenBrainz won't automatically import new scrobbles but you can re-import at any point in time and shouldn't get any duplicates.
There are a couple working clients for ListenBrainz but you can also get Last.fm clients to scrobble to LB by editing your hosts file.
Same issue, a huge batch of scrobbles from an old itunes import can't be deleted.
Edit: Also, it's not ready for primetime yet, but keep an eye out for https://listenbrainz.org. It should be a non-bullshit alternative to last.fm when it's ready.
Open source versions of Last.fm. Libre has been around for a while but Listenbrainz is just getting started.

No huge reason, I'm mainly just interested in trying them out for a while. I've been looking at the APIs (for example, Libre.fm API allows you to delete scrobbles). I've also been brainstorming a website that might make use of these services so I want to get a feel for how they work/what their features are.
Ahh, but it *is* a case of sending the scrobble data elsewhere. I *do* want it to go somewhere else (e.g., libre.fm, or my own server running GNU FM), and I *don't* want the other service to have to build a similar system. What I want is for *spotify* to implement a method whereby I can have it send scrobbling data wherever I want it to go, from their end. Thus my request for exactly that: to directly allow scrobbling to anywhere.
DeaDBeeF isn't super well known, but it has a macOS client and can natively scrobble and can do local library management. It's rather bare bones, but I tend to use it for scrobbling radio streams.
And I just opened Silicio again and it has support for Vox as a source. My guess as a workaround for Vox Premium being the only way to get scrobbling support through the app.
Deezer will have them as well, even in FLAC streaming:
https://www.deezer.com/artist/689
They still offer a free test month for their HiFi account, as far as I know.
Officially confirmed by a Deezer staff member. Their XBox app should also be able to scrobble to Last.fm, as their internal scrobbling option works by connecting both accounts via API.
If you downloaded it from the official site, it's just an exe with an install wizard. When you download the components, extract them in winrar or whatever unzip utility you use. Find the folder it extracted to and drag the dll files into the components folder, usually found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\foobar2000\components
and restart foobar. As far as I know, actually opening dll files requires a special program to make them readable. The only reason to do this is if you want to see what it says or change it (I guess).
http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_audioscrobbler you have to put this in the program files > foobar > components folder. Then in the foobar preferences under components, you'll see the configuration page for this plugin where you put your login info. Hope this helps
Isn’t there another source you could get the images from? I was thinking about Musicbrainz, but they don’t seem to have artists’ pictures at first glance. A problem I encountered was that Neil Cicierega is one of my top artists, and because he’s not on streaming platforms (because he makes mashups) he doesn’t show up. Not a very big deal though.
Anyway, I loved your site!
I understand, here is a FAQ for MusicBrainz account questions which also mentions to contact their support via email, so maybe you could try creating a new account that way or ask them if you are having problems:
