Pulsar Music Player is a refreshing new approach. It's nice and simple and just gets the job done with a slick, easy to use Material Design theme.
From memory, Pulsar Music Player can play synced lyrics when you enable lyrics in the app. Poweramp doesn't have a synced lyric function and can display a chunk of text.
<strong>Pulsar</strong> supports standard music file types including mp3, aac, flac, ogg, wav. Also No Ads. Liked it so much I bought pro just to support the developer. multiple edits for format, and to add no ads,
Pulsar Music Player. No ads. Supports various sort orders in list format and has a search feature. Has vertical scrollbar with alpha popup. Supports "OK Google" play command.
IMO, Pulsar is one of, if not the best free music players and it has NO ads. I've used it for years. There's a paid version, too, but you really don't need it.
Some good suggestions already, but Pulsar is really sound and active in new features/updates. The UI is particularly nice and the App has a good rating...

Why don't you use a free music player from the PlayStore? Some of them are very good, like Pulsar, but there are others too.
I never use the default player in a phone because usually they're not that feature rich.

I've been using it for the past two years. Never ever felt it lacks any feature.
Reasons: Free, no ads, no in-app purchases, Built in equalizer, Built in Tag editor, Color Themes, Material UI and animations, Weighs just 3 MB. Damn light on RAM, Downloads media artwork, Can exclude folders, Android Auto support, Supports lyrics (with lrc file), Sleep timer, Gapless playback, Play speed adjustment
And much much more.
I've been using Pulsar. It's very minimal, but has a similar player interface to PowerAmp (swipe to change song), recognizes my Playlists automatically (I had to import them in PowerAmp), and can use Chromecast (been waiting for PowerAmp to impliment that forever). No EQ, though.
I use Pulsar, which is awesome and also free! There's a paid version, but the free version is the exact same with limited theming capabilities. Plays local files all the up to FLAC with no issues, has playlist and queue support, and all that good stuff.
sorry it didn't work for you, I would also recommend pulsar - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar&hl=en_US&gl=US - as a music player for android.
gave me a chuckle, I feel you on restricting lots of access. I love VLC for a lot of things, but for my android local mp3 player I like Pulsar better personally.
prova Pulsar

it might be, and the only test I know - ssh into phone to view a task manager like htop while running - may be more complicated than you want to try for a minor issue.
I also use the pulsar music player which can handle flac files, and is a little bit less resource intensive (it does have other limitations)
Have you tried Pulsar?
I use it once in a blue moon personally (mostly use Pandora), but I've generally been happy with it when I do.
What's your phone? I have an Android that is getting a bit older and it has no problem playing all kinds of audio while locked.
https://github.com/Xiermires/mp3-stream
Is this what you are using? You probably have to find something else...the apps that work with the screen locked/off for me are things like YouTube, Audible, Play Music etc...and they have widgets that display on the lock screen and allow it to be paused or tracks skipped etc.
Try this - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar&hl=en_US&gl=US
I think I remember that working similarly (IE: via a widget etc)
PS: What's this have to do with Kodi?
Nope. Google Music has been disabled by YT. Good News, I have 8000 tracks in my phone and play all my music offline and I have installed over 40+ music apps looking for a suitable replacement and I found one. It's called Pulsar and free to use. It does everything GPM used to do and more + it's one of only a handful that is recognised by Google Assistant so I can just ask Google to play a song, album it artist and it will play it whilst in driving, without accessing the internet and without lag. Lovely Jubbly

Pulsar, hands down. I feel your pain, and I've tried almost every single music app there is. Pulsar is the absolute best. It's quick, clean, but also featureful (yes, it spots duplicates in playlists!). The free version is so good for months I thought I had the paid version.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
Yeah, I installed an app called Pulsar for offline play. It'll detect any files you download through YTM automatically.

I tried dozens when I first moved to Android, and this was my favorite. Clean interface, auto downloads missing album art, Gapless playback, Crossfade, EQ, fine control over what out scans for music.
I even bought the pro version, but you don't need to. No ads.
I don't know why I got downvoted below, but here is the music player I mentioned next to the photo you posted.
https://i.imgur.com/bXrCIl1.jpg
The Play/Pause button is in the same place, forward and back buttons are the same, and the shuffle and repeat buttons are the same. The album art shows as does the name of the song, and the ONLY difference is really the position of the slider. The App is called Pulsar and it was free with no ads, which the photo YOU posted has. It's got a 4.6 rating out of 5.

I use Pulsar. It has replay gain and let's you equalize volume like you want. Been using it for years and absolutely LOVE it. Only music app I'll use.
I have also been searching for something like MediaMonkey, the Android version is that great. You could checkout Pulsar Music Player. This is what I have been using it allows you to edit tags. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
I'm a fan of Pulsar. It plays all of my FLAC and MP3 files and still has the all features you want from a music app like Google Play Music. The interface is pretty clean, but still has lots of options. It has gapless playback, casting functionality, and Android Auto which are big points for me.
Overall, this app is pretty high quality. I haven't come across any bugs and has all the features I want from a music app.

Using Android Auto will display navigation and music on your head unit screen, but driven by the phone. Android Auto has essentially made AppRadio obsolete. For MP3's, I use Pulsar which works under Android Auto, as does Spotify. You can also use the head unit's native interface outside of Android Auto to play MP3s off a flash drive.
Your unit does not support Torque or any kind of gauges at all. I don't think Torque would run on your phone with Android Auto running simultaneously. You will need to look for an alternate solution. I use an Ultra Gauge in North America, but I don't know what is available to you in Europe.
You cannot use Bluetooth audio streaming while connected to Android Auto. This is by design. Use a audio app that is compatible with Android Auto instead, which sends the music over the USB cable.
If simply you want to play local audio files on your phone, Pulsar works well.
Unfortunately Samsung's music player only works on Samsung devices. It relies on a lot of their extra framework that other Android devices don't have.
Pulsar Music is a great, lightweight, free (with no ads or in-app-purchases) music player. Simple to use with a nice, basic material UI.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
When I used my own music collection, I used this app. Is this what he's looking for? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
If you're talking about an app where he can listen to music for free, then he needs to use one of the "radio" type apps like Pandora, Google Play Music, or (free) Spotify (among others).
On my Pixel XL, I disabled play music day 1. I've been using pulsar since. Has a really nice design, customizable, and simplistic approach. Just bugs me doesn't have the new 8.0 media notifications but their own ones are still good.
Edit: spelling
Btw. Google Play as a music player will likely not recognise either m3u or other standard android playlists. It does not do it for me. Maybe this is actually your only problem... You might want to try another player. I really like the Pulsar player.
But there are many other options too that work with standard playlists on android.
I've tried Musixmatch before but I didn't really like it. I think I've found a good one with Pulsar, though. Still making sure it's got everything I want.
No, I've switched out off G play music a while ago b/c i tought the interfaces were too clumsy. And I hated the fact that they put too much emphasis on the radios...
For my music, I'm curently using Pulsar
This is a really annoying Android problem, I've had it with all Android versions and phones I had. Recently though, I found a partial solution: using a music app that doesn't have this problem. Though most apps do still have this problem, I found Pulsar and Stellio are two music apps that correctly show the right song images for all songs in a folder.
I wish other music players worried right. I like Pulsar but I personally find it annoying that you use a swipe gesture to remove songs from the "now playing" queue. Stellio on the other hand doesn't even have a queue feature, only playlists.
I use Pulsar, does a good job with MP3s and Playlists loaded from Internal Storage/SD Card.
Have you tried Pulsar? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
<strong>Pulsar</strong> (Pro version, in my case)
You can indeed re-order the tabs so that folder tab is loaded first by default
This phone doesn't come pre-installed with a music player like in past devices. Not sure why but you can download the official Samsung Music Player from the Play Store but I wouldn't recommend it because it contains ads which is ridiculous. But it's the official music app so yeah, depends how you want it. Here are two suggestions.
Here's two music apps to check out
You can also search other music apps to download
Pulsar is my fav!!!
Huge fan of Pulsar. Has everything you're looking for as far as I can tell. Pulsar Google Play Store Link
I highly recommend Pulsar.
It does everything I'd expect a music player app to do, and it does it well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
Pulsar is a great music player.
Check out Pulsar, very good app and lots of options. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar&hl=en
I format my music files as such:
Artist[Album]_##_Track Title.mp3
I use ID3Renamer and have for years. It's always worked great. It also allows you to delete tags to strip out content you don't want and then add back in the ones you want. There are a few more robust tools out there, but this has worked great so I stick with it.
Afterward I use MusicBrainz Picard to add album art, and to play them back, I use Pulsar Music Player to play.
Edit: Sorry those are PC tools, I don't know if you were looking for apps to tag the files.
What are you using? I use Pulsar which I find more stable than the GHome app or others. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
Use Pulsar music player - free version has this option to exclude folders . Now exclude all those folders other than where your songs are stored.
Even better option :
You can use Blackplayer Ex.
I use it & here is how to do it - https://streamable.com/uh8z7
After that you can also blacklist songs/ringtones individually, from tracks page of blackplayer ex. Check that video that I recorded.
Pulsar has this option in "edit tags".
I use Pulsar. It's by far the best music player I've tried. It's free, no ads, looks great and works really well.
I use Pulsar seems to do the job for me.
Pulsar . https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar&hl=en . Best music app ive ever used.
Pulser is better ,I have been using it for 6 months,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
I loved UI from Stellio! Am using pulsar for many years now https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
Pulsar. Been with me for many years. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar pulsar album artwork
Try Pulsar
It works fine on my Pioneer Android Auto head unit.
May I recommend Pulsar.
Different manufacturers bundle different music apps on their phones, so I'm not sure which you are using. There are apps out there that will import the folders that you specify. I important my whole music folder.

Pulsar has an actual file browser that can be used to add whole folders to a playlist. The other players mentioned below do not have a normal file browser but organize based on metadata (artist/genre/song/etc). If you have a folder of miscellaneous songs from different artists and albums that you want to add specifically, then I think this is the only one in the list that might do that.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar&rdid=com.rhmsoft.pulsar

Phonograph is my music player of choice. It is free, but has an in-app purchase for more customization/features. You can add all songs from an album/artist/genre to a playlist or just shuffle all songs:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kabouzeid.gramophone

Shuttle is another good one. I think it should have that feature too:
Free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
Paid: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplecity.amp_pro
Pulsar has adjustable cross fade.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar&hl=en
Pulsar (my fav): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar, kinda alike GM Music: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.generalmobile.app.musicplayer or, if you're adventurous and minimalism-lover, try HQ Music: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nazarsoroka.musicplayer ;-)
All free.
I recommend Pulsar.
Does anyone have an app that can sort the songs by the 'Date' tag (not the Date Added tag)?
Try Pulsar.
Pulsar for Android is a good music player for LOCAL files (not streaming)
If you like Black Player, you may also like Pulsar.
How does this app compare to the free version of the Pulsar Music Player?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar&hl=en
Pulsar is a simple music player you can download and also light on resources.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar
Pulsar is the best music player I've tried
the one that best fits my needs and looks nice: Pulsar .
Others that I used to use everyday: Player Pro
All of them have themes.
You might want to check out Pulsar
The correct command syntax for Google Assistant 3rd party music play is:
“Play [song] on [music player app]”
But that works only if the developer has designed the music app to be compatible with Google Assistant commands.
The Pulsar Music Player app obeys the Google Assistant play command but not pause/stop/rewind.
Was my default player for like 2 months, but the progress circle (while playing a song) often kinda got on the way when I swiped left/right to skip the song.
That was my only complain, if it wasn't for that I would definitely get the paid version. If that's not a problem for you then I recommend it.
I'm using Pulsar now by the way (also free and no ads)
Pulsar Music Player: I've used most of the ones in the Play Store and I've stuck with this one.
