They'd have to link it to a specific person. If you look at the permissions on the app (towards the bottom of the page), it has access to photos, storage (any file on the attached SD card), and network access. Notably, it does not have access to telephone information like IMEI, which is a unique identifier for cell phones.
They could identify you by your provider's IP address, but they'd have to get a court subpoena for the cell phone provider to hand over that information.
They could have an application that works with a congregation's local WiFi connection, which would tattle on you as soon as you connect. That takes some technical sophistication to setup, though, and at least one person in the local congregation would have to be in on it. It'd almost certainly leak out.
Even if they had a way to identify you, none of it would work if you browsed porn in Incognito Mode and never saved pictures locally. Which is the safe thing to do, anyway.
We can't definitively rule it out, but it's hard to see how they would do it.
I am one of Jehovahs Witnesses and we have an app on the App Store and Play Store that has a lot of our publications and the bible is in the app. It is free and available to the public if you'd like to check it out:

It supports the New World Translation, Byington, Kingdom Interlinear, American Standard Version, and the King James Version with the ability to cross reference scriptures between each version.
