Yep, it's all algorithms. There are many different algorithms of varying complexity for one size of Cube. I still consider them above Sudoku because there are many many many many holy shit so many kinds of cubes. There's way more than just R U R' U R U U R'.

Edit: And lets not forget about Go. I'd say it's even more complex than chess despite only have one type of move. Holy strategy of antiquity Batman! Predating chess by an entire millennium.
