You could "disable" the laser by just sticking a piece of paper under it with some tape. Remapping standard mouse buttons to keyboard presses is probably possible with some program.
Another option would be to just use splits on your phone, there's an app for it on Android. (I haven't used it, so I don't know how good it is. Reviews seem to suggest it's worse than e.g. LiveSplit, but does a decent job.)
msplit is listed in the sidebar. Haven't tried it myself.
