For anyone not aware, this was an improvement of about .15 seconds, and means Any% is essentially dead. Darb said he's done running this now and frankly i don't blame him.
By the way, for anyone who doesn't know how great this is because all the splits say +0.0, he was literally tied with a human doable TAS up till 8-4. If I'm remembering what the TAS time is correctly, he is less than 10 frames off of a literally perfect run. I'm not 100% on the exact numbers here so if anyone knows better please correct me.
-edit- since it's not in the OP, link to the full run https://www.twitch.tv/darbian/v/60465436
I died spending 2 weeks making a route for that cog dive recover. The link to the desmos is in that video's description.
Also im posting this 20-minute rant about this A press save cuz im too lazy to describe it all in text form. https://youtu.be/7eK2yszTfyA Someone else can make a tl;dw version i guess.
Oh, this is in pannen's video description but I'll link it here too cuz: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/zi5mrn0yhr
Incorrect, currently two people have performed the glitch RTA. Me and DoorTK. Door was the first person to get it on emu and I am the first person to get it on console.
Looks pretty good but on closer inspection, what on earth is "runny egg" ?
https://www.twitch.tv/danray2352/v/48555640
This is the submission video for it, it seems to be a 3ds game that was actually made for toddlers where you hold right for 30 minutes. It looks like you can't reasonably die as the runner just tanks every hit with no regard for hp loss or slowdown (see ~22:40-23:00 for some bad examples of this). I looked up the game's actual audio and the music is atrocious. Even if it was in the awful block, 30 minutes of this would be brutal, but it's right in the middle of a 3ds block.
While it's a little late for gdq to reconsider, I think this game and run has few redeeming qualities and will be received VERY poorly. I'm frankly surprised this made the cut over some really good rejected runs.
It's slightly more complicated than that. For the longest time, he was donating tons of money to charity, which he posted about on a Twitter account. Cr1tikalCares or something, I'm not sure since he never linked to it (incredibly humble guy). Unfortunately, at some point his partner just decided to stop paying him. That was several months ago that he talked about it, I believe. He hasn't mentioned whether or not that ever started back up.
Around the same time, we was going through some pretty serious troubles with losing his long time girlfriend and getting into some costly legal proceeding over a car accident. Also didn't have a job, which had been the case for awhile I believe. So he set up a Patreon page (which again, he never linked to) that he takes the money for himself. People ended up being really generous and he managed to get back on his feet I believe.
Overall, pretty much the coolest, most down-to-earth YouTuber out there. I don't always love his content, but he's an amazing person. Oh, and he's also really attractive, which came as a bit of a surprise to me since I always imagined him looking more like Dunkey from the way his voice sounds.
A lot of us use something called a DexDrive which allows us to save the ghosts to our computer and load them back on to a memory card. So we have tons of ghosts just saved to our computers
How is the youtubers' side done? A romhack of some sort that lets them combine their progress?
Edit: Ok, some simple googling helped me out here.
https://kotaku.com/5954780/16-years-later-super-mario-64-gets-co-op
Now I really want to check out the co-op speedruns - that sounds freakin' awesome.
Generally speaking, the runners start and stop the timers themselves.
There are a handful of games that support automatic starting/stopping, splitting, and cutscene time removal through LiveSplit. All information about that feature can be found here.
Do note that all the auto-splitters that I'm talking about will be PC only, as they do this through reading (but not changing) memory address. This is not possible on most console without heavy modification or a GameShark type extension of some kind. I do know of a few auto-splitters that watch your captured gamefeed and split under very special, yet easy to detect conditions, like a screen fading to black or white, but these are in the minority.
Overall really solid run, original WR was 2:57:33 by SVA and Demon's previous PB was a 2:57:36. He's been grinding this for a little over a month now and it's awesome to see him get a good one in. Still a bit of room for improvement (sub 2:57 pls) but this should stick for a while longer!
If you're going to watch a single part of the run, please let it be the sickest one-bomb Morpheel in TP history.
So it turns out that Bread is the Chrono game today for 2.50... Because of you, I had to buy it -.-
You're one of the streamers that I look for on the schedule because I know I'll enjoy the run. I had a lot of fun watching Bread (and eating toast). It was the perfect way start to my morning. Thank you for putting on a great show!
There's an unofficial Android GDQ app that I've been using for a year or so - works well, allows you to set reminders for specific runs, shows the schedule, pushes info about the runs going on now/donation total etc. Might want to reach out to that dev and see if you can collaborate?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shuneault.agdq2016&hl=en
Not a calendar but Sébastien Huneault's awesome Android app, SGDQ 2017 Schedule, for keeping up to date with the schedule, setting/getting reminders of when a run starts, etc.
Don't know if there's an iOS version — I hope there is because it's immensely useful.
He did say it himself, in an interview with Kotaku.
>I could sit in front of a TV right now and play for an hour straight and get 650 different types of play and it would never be the same,” Rogers said. “If he’s basing his spreadsheets and his shifting on one particular pattern, then that’s pretty ignorant and closed-minded, because you’re not factoring in the human element of how the game would respond.

While not exactly what you were asking about, the Kingdom of Loathing is a web text-adventure game, and it has a very strong speed-running community.
You get a limited number of turns per day, so a lot of it is making important decisions.
Speedruns are counted by daycount and turncount. I'm not sure what the hardcore record is these days, probably something ridiculous like two days, but with preparation you can do as many one-day casual runs as you want, and time them by more traditional speedrun metrics.
The game itself tracks numbers and posts leaderboards, and they're always keeping the meta interesting by introducing new items and reworking old zones.

Majority of the write up and summary/main points is here (if you want to save a click) with further links inside.
I'm reading through the related links. Does this one work for others? Link. All the others I've opened work so far.
UraniumAnchor (iirc) has the original 1080p recordings and uploads them to archive.org and youtube after splitting them up and adding title screens. Other people upload the videos to youtube while the event is still going on and put links in the VOD threads. There's plenty of reuploads of the content, nothing gets lost :P
edit: As well as broadcast saving.
You didn't see the updated version I linked in twitch chat :)
Here it is: http://i.imgur.com/sWKIiED.gif and here's a slightly bigger non gif version: http://gfycat.com/LavishCompassionateDassierat
It does, since it and chrome are both based on chromium all you have to do is install an addon for opera that allows you to install from chromes webstore.
https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en
There's also the stellar Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shuneault.agdq2016 (don't let the ID confuse you, it's not for 2016) which usually has updated schedules, can alert you of the runs you want to watch, etc. There might exist an iOS version also.
>From what I've heard, there were difficulties at every turn with the hotel getting the event put together.
Trip Adviser Reviews for those like me who are curious what kind of crap went on
You're wrong, this is on the newest patch (1.2.4.1), what has been patched out is the menu storage, which is not used in this run, as you can see, because this is on the newest patch. Also if you're curious what is patched and what is not you can see it in the official patch notes. Please first make research or just talk about things you're sure about.
Edit: http://www.celestegame.com/changelog.html
Here you have the changelog in case you can't find it.
GZ was originally suppose in between Jak II and Pokemon Blue along with Pokemon Green but from what I've heard, it got booted out of the main event due to running way behind schedule.
You can see it here under the original schedule under the name Setup Gear Solid Green.
https://web.archive.org/web/20150105023438/https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule
In the card, there is a link to a tag card pointing here which has a link to the list of tags above.
It happens when people are using CRT TVs(not sure what other factors affect it) but here's a fix if you're on windows:
Install Equalizer APO
Run the Configuration Editor for your sound source and set an equalizer like this: http://i.imgur.com/VMp27ph.png
You may need to play around a bit but no more ^^^eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for me.
For what it's worth, I wrote up a quick Monte Carlo simulation to brute-force it, and I get 0.059% - 0.065%, which is basically the right number albeit slightly high. Also, it's possible (likely?) that i have an off-by-one error somewhere, and I don't entirely trust the RNG. So as far as I'm concerned, you're probably right, and even if you aren't exactly right, you're probably pretty close to right.
The "rules" for each game are set by the players who play this particular game. For instance, they will choose where to start and where to end the run (usually near the credits roll or the last boss kill, just something significant), and maybe some things to ban for a category (glitchless, no wrong warp, stuff like that).
What games are easy to speedrun ? Games you like. The reason is, you must be sure you won't get burnt out after a few resets. Plus, it's always more enjoyable on a game you like. Don't do speedrun for popularity, neither for a community, do it for yourself and against yourself.
For the timer software, I can only recommend Livesplit.
Routing is most fun in my opinion. Hopefully OP likes it too and goes for it, otherwise he might aim at a different game.
You can always try to find the other runner and see if he still has the file for his run. For example all the twitch highlight links changed recently, but the videos should still be on the channel.
The video of the run: https://www.twitch.tv/epicdudeguy/v/41399838
He is an active runner, so you should try to contact him to have a chat about the game, or just join his stream and ask some questions while he runs a game.
Also https://foldingathome.org/ > Folding@home (FAH or F@h) is a distributed computing project for simulating protein dynamics, including the process of protein folding and the movements of proteins implicated in a variety of diseases.

Here is a guide to glitchhunting from the based goddess of glitchhunting herself, Cronikeys: http://ask.fm/Cronikeys/answer/105856796182
Read that, then continue reading this~
I would add to that that most, but not at all glitches are in the following categories:
-Doing two things on the same frame and having their side-effects processed in an out of order, glitchy way (wrong warp in oot, hydro storm extra damage glitch in sotn, etc)
-Doing things while the game is lagging (if it's an old game you can try to despawn objects in your way, if it's a new game some of them speed up the physics during lag, like DK64, and you can take advantage of this to clip and fly further)
-Being pushed against a thin wall or seam and clipping/ejecting/zipping through it
-Using an ability or item that was only intended by the developers of the game to be used in a certain place/for specific things, on things where it would be completely unexpected to use them
-Trying to make jumps that are 'just out of reach' using extra precision and techniques (for example, many just out of reach jumps in yoshi's island can be done by doing a frame perfect flutter, and in viewtiful joe you can do the 'bathtub skip' by zooming in at the peak of the jump so the terrain shrinks under your feet and you can land at the top)
-Interacting with an object before or after it is intended to be accessible
-Walking around an invisible trigger that is placed so that it covers where casual players are likely to move, but can be circumnavigated with knowledge of its existence
And the most important rule: Try to do glitchy things a lot and in general play the game a lot, and make sure to always be recording what happens, because the more you play the more likely it is you'll have random glitches happen to you.
Whoa, are you THE dom dunc?
Anyways, a look at the wayback machine shows that it didn't say "single segment" before. But there's also no indication in the submission text on where the segments are.
Oppression of dissent is only one of many factors of fascism. Here's an outline on one of the definitive essays on the subject.
Sorry I don't understand your question. Are you asking what split programs runners tend to use? If so, the most popular one is LiveSplit.
If you're asking what a gold split means, it means that the runner just did that segment better than they ever have before. The default colors are red, green, and gold. Red means that you did worse on that segment than your personal best time for the whole game, and green means you did better on that segment than your personal best time for the whole game, and gold means you did better on that segment than any other time you played the game.
There's this game called osu!, where people click circles to the beat. It's free to play and has a incredibly high skill ceiling, which drew a lot of people to play it for years. You can download it here: https://osu.ppy.sh/home

The GDQ Schedule (Android) app seems to be updated for this AGDQ as well. Huge thanks to the dude that makes and maintains it! I've used it every GDQ since he started doing the app.

Unless you have a really bad computer that has trouble running it, you should be using Livesplit, which is what almost everyone uses. I believe WSplit just has issues with global hotkeys that other split programs don't have.
It's a program called LiveSplit, and most of the time it won't know when to split the times. For most games you will need to set up global hotkeys, and you press a key to make the split. Some games (at the moment I can only think of Portal and Dishonored) have autosplitters that people have made, and those do it automatically, but the vast majority of games don't have that.
Other than that, to get started just pick up a game and start running. If people have run it before, check out other runs/tutorials on strategies to use and just practice practice practice.
Hey!
The Elgato Game Capture HD has some noticable lag between device and capturing it. One way some have dealt with this issue is by adding some buffering time between their webcam, mic audio, and timers. The only time that I know of that allows for this is LiveSplit, but I haven't researched very much otherwise. I like LiveSplit, and you can import your WSplit times into it by simply opening them.
Here's my set up:
OBS
LiveSplit (with 1400ms delay)
Webcam (with 1400ms delay)
Game Capture HD
Turtlebay X11 (with 1400ms delay)
See the "Speedrunning Tools" section of the sidebar, there's some timers listed there. Also of note is Livesplit and a few notes on proper grammar
I've been using this lately and like it quite a bit. It lets you chose who you upload what to too, so all my screenshots automatically end up on imgur. Does gifs, mp4s and screen areas too.
Quite a few people use cartridge adapters to play JP games on US consoles. I myself use an adapter to play US carts on my AV famicom. Not all adapters are equal and many have too thick teeth or don't properly handle lockout chips. I couldn't find a link to the one I use, but it has a little Mario and Castle on it and it works really well. EDIT: Found it: https://www.amazon.com/Famicom-Adaptor-Converter-NES-Console-Nintendo/dp/B07DZWSR2C

Most communities frown upon modification of hardware, and I think modifying a US NES would fall under that. I haven't heard of anyone being against cartridge adaptors, and this sounds like a really fringe case.
This should be something everyone on the Internet signs up to.
Their password check tool is really good as well. Lets you know how many times your password has been compromised: https://haveibeenpwned.com/Passwords
This fucking classic, Quake done Quicker. One of the first speedruns I ever watched and the video that got me into speedrunning. It's more of a movie, in that it uses a third person camera and silly monologues, but it's fucking amazing. Anyone know of any more made like this?
If you're not watching fastatcc, you done goofed. WR holder, super chill stream, extremely knowledgeable about the game (top and beginner level strats), and almost always willing to help.
-18sec previous WR due to performing a route to conserve speed from the booster at :39 in order to skip all the way to the platform at :55.

The law probably depends on your location, however PS2 emulation requires a BIOS dump.
At least in the US the BIOS - being copyrighted - is illegal to download, however if you have a modded PS2 you can dump it from your own console if you have one and that's probably legal about anywhere.
http://pcsx2.net/config-guide/official-english-pcsx2-configuration-guide.html#Bios
Starting out on Arch is a bit brave, I'd recommend Debian myself.
Anyway, according to the wiki you can get the necessary developer tools by installing base-devel through the package manager: that should give you gcc, automake, configure and other essential packages. The compilation procedure for SNES-9x is detailed in readme-unix.html found under unix/docs, though all it says is to run ./configure --help for more info.
That should be enough to get you started, if you get stuck you can always ask on the SNES9x forums, I see posts from other Linux users there and I'm sure they'd love to help you.
> Just try tapping “up” then “right” in alternating order until you can’t move. Then press left. You may not get to a 2048, but you might just see your highest score ever.
> When an automated script that alternates pressing up and right and left every hundreth time can beat the game, then well, that's broken.
The run is around 50 minutes RTA, I'm trying to find the WR at the moment, but it's tricky because nicovideo.
Edit: According to SaintMillion on the SDA thread for the game, the fastest run is by Twilight:
http://www.nicovideo.jp/mylist/25673232
The WR is the run where the first video is uploaded on sep. 11. You'll need a nicovideo account to watch, but that's nice to have anyway since a lot of japanese runs are uploaded there.
I was trying to convey to people just how easy it is to cheat, and I was saying that I'd like to demonstrate it, and they were getting uncomfortable with me saying that. I was hoping to spur people on to beef up security, but instead, it seemed that they rather just continue to ignore that it's possible. I can understand that adding barriers to entry is undesirable, but we have to think of the future. You can't just retroactively decide to add rules for videos that were already made. You can't invalidate all previous runs when you suspect one of being too good, and you can't be selective if there's no true sign of wrongdoing.
If you want to be sure there's a real person putting these inputs in, then a generalized (should work for pretty much anything) method that I'd propose is having mandatory hand cams. You can get a 120 fps camera for about $6 on Amazon right now.
Don't get it on amazon as it's ridiculously over priced. If you can, get it on ebay. The lower priced ones go for ~$20 US.
I've used this pedal for at least a year now, no issues.
If you don't want to buy a capture card, the TeamViewer Host app lets you cast your android screen to a PC wirelessly. On your PC you can then stream the TeamViewer window.
The TeamViewerer app isn't able to stream the android's sound, however you can easily use a 3.5mm cable to connect your android's headphone output to your computer's mic input and get the sound from that.
Why not link directly to the Google Play Store page where you can sign up for notification? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nintendo.zara
It's what that site directs you to do anyway — and it'd be less spammy.
https://kotaku.com/after-donkey-kong-controversy-guinness-removes-all-of-1825240701
Guinness has also gone on record, saying they have taken all of his Guinness titles, including First Perfect Pac Man and Highest Pac Man score.
I don't know for sure, but it seems like having a projectile in the middle of her hit box while the cutscene plays causes it to bug out. This thread has some more discussion on it.
It has a ridiculously short window, so to pull it off in a run is impressive.
So this just kinda helped out in a run I was doing. Streamed a CoD:WaW speedrun after reading this and found it gave me a lot to talk about if I spoke about the game and what was going on during the run. Actually made it a lot more enjoyable aswell from my perspective. Also, as I'm new to the game, it kinda gave a 'rubber duck' effect where saying what I was doing out loud helped me with the actual run as I kinda figured if something was just a stupid idea.
So yeah, genuine thanks for helping me with my stream!
It wasnt the best run, particularly towards the end, but it was still a PB. If you want to check it out then https://www.twitch.tv/jonoabbo/v/59219841
I didn't know about the LiveSplit counter component, so I've been using this AutoHotkey script that outputs the counter to a txt file. So there's another option for you :)
I know a lot of browser games (especially flash games) have tons of issues with in-game timers, as they often are based on frames (which makes for incredibly variable times based on how good your computer is). I doubt there would be huge discrepancies with timed runs that don't use in-game timers, but I still think this could vary incredibly based on how well the game is coded.
On an aside, I've been considering running Super Stacker 2 for a while. I got the speedrun badge on Kongregate and found even that level of optimization pretty rewarding.

Also honey was the first person to cut the 2. We watched his video one time in the tinychat but I can't seem to find it. It was probably on his nico and sicko uploaded it to YT or something. Too lazy to look harder for it.
The 1:52 player is Batora if you would like to put that in parentheses.
1) 1.0mbps is limited but you can get decent quality out of it. It's just about learning settings and fiddling around until it works for you. You are never gonna get supercrisp 1080p / 60fps stream. But with some luck, 540p/60fps should be doable. It also depends a bit on how the computer and if you can use any other x264 preset like "fast" or "medium" to make the bitrate output lower. It also depends on how much movement the game has.
2) GV-USB2 is just very light-weight. It's a real capture card. For Standard Definition, GV-USB2 is the most bang for the buck costing only 40-50$. Try find other Wii streamers using GV-USB2 and check their past broadcasts/highlights if you think the quality is good enough for you.
3) When it comes to your computer. The actual game does not massively impact what you as equipment to stream, unless you stream a PC game from the same computer. But as a rule of thumb, streaming a NES game is gonna be as demanding for the PC as streaming a Wii game. It more depends on how much movement the game has. I'm sure there are subreddits that specializes in pc builds.
https://obsproject.com/estimator might help you a little bit with 1 and 3.
The community when the timer begins and ends. However, the runner can choose the splits in between at his own discretion. Some communities may standardize those as well, but I haven't run into that.
There are some PC games and emulated games that have programs that do auto-splits. Most are done manually by the runner with a button or foot pedal. The most popular program is Livesplit.
Here is DXWND - http://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/files/Latest%20build/v2_03_28_build.rar/download
thats the real site, and here is cPU grabber from the real site -
If you run fullscreen directx games it will take over global hotkeys and obviously be on top of any other windows. To be able to see livesplit you need to
OR
OR
To get hotkeys to work, usually running the game as administrator (right click > properties > compatibility) will do the trick
Glad to see some positive reception.
So what runs would people watch? I personally think the best runs would be:
Grown Dragonache- would be the Any% equivalent, would likely be focused on minimizing the number of species needed. This link will probably be helpful for making a route: http://pinataisland.info/viva/Dragonache.
All Pinatas- would probably be treated similarly to a SMG 120 star run (technically not a 100% but the most practical application of the term)
All Awards- The token "meme run" for the game, would likely be a small pool of runners due to the amount of time it would take. Not sure what tricks could be done to cut down what is estimated as a 50 hour run according to this site: http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=10976.
Tapes came around around at the earliest 2004, which means around 0.85 would have been the version (source: http://mamedev.org/oldrel.html)
If you set CPU0 to 99% speed in that version of MAME (or any version up to version .118 I believe), you get this exact finger:
https://i.imgur.com/Oyvlzol.png
I just did that myself with MAME .80 in fact to be thorough. Enabled cheats, set CPU0 to 99%, then used Shift and P to step by step look at each frame.
If you have a mac compatible capture card, you can stream with just FMLE but you wont be able to use anything other than the capture card input.
However, you can take the capture card into CamTwist and organize it similar to OBS or XSplit with your webcam/microphone.
If you're using an emulator or playing a pc game, I think camtwist can capture screen regions but I'm not sure. If not, no idea where to go from there.
As a guy with a mac, I know how much it sucks to hear this, but if you're really into the idea of streaming, you should install win7 on bootcamp and just switch over when you want to stream. It is much easier.
Lagarith is pretty good for being lossless, otherwise you would have to use something like x264vfw to encode directly to h264 (and be sure not to have bad settings if you want decent quality recordings).
The other issue with x264vfw is that AmaRec only outputs in the avi container afaik which can be kind of a pain to manipulate if you want to trim the file without rencoding it again and losing extra quality.
An alternative would to be just to record with OBS Studio (can output as .mkv which is easy to manipulate using software like MKVToolNix) and create a separate audio track that only has game audio if you're streaming and commentating and want only game audio for youtube for instance.
Maybe you can find some kind of Magic: The Gathering life counter, set it to 200 and use that? Not very elegant, I know, but it was the first thing that popped up in my head.
Edit: Or maybe something like this: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/guide-death-counter.3345/
Are you trying to join the SRL IRC? The Streams page of SRL embeds streams from Twitch. Colloquy is an IRC client.
The SRL IRC server is irc2.speedrunslive.com and the main channel is #speedrunslive. I'm not all that familiar with Colloquy so you should check out the Colloquy documentation for specific instructions on connecting to a server, or maybe someone else is more familiar with it can chime in.
Note that SRL requires you to register your username to join races. SRL's guide to registering your nick is here
Hey, you used an amazon referral link. I went ahead and removed your comment because you can't do that. Here's a sanitized link so OP can have more ideas on what to get. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009D3HSTG
Well you start by playing it and getting better. As for capture cards, I think this is the one folks used to use. Pretty decent for any SD capture needs.
So I want to start running and have chosen a game, Megaman Battle Network 2 for GBA. I am completely new to Speedrunning. I own a Gamecube and Gameboy Player but for video capture I only have an elgato hd60s. I own a cheap upscaler (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXJ4TGX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_oGBfFbVPW1HV4) so I can go from RCA to HDMI but I want to know how sub optimal this option is. Am I completely shooting myself in the foot using this to record?
Won't repeat what /u/Andis1 said. But on another note: When was the last time you tried that? I remember when Twitch was using another protocol that it wouldn't load as it used a port that is generally not open. But now it should be the same as Youtube. Http/Https is being used now. So basically if the Website loads so should the player. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to do that at work either, but I can :).
Maybe just check again or switch from Https to Http (or vice versa depending on what you use by default).
Unfortunately, I fear I can't help more. You could try a web proxy, like HideMyAss. There are a bunch of free ones, but they probably perform very poorly as they have limited bandwidth unless you pay for it.
I know you posted this months ago but you are the only person on the whole internet who seems to actually be trying to explain this in a manner someone who doesn't know tonnes of code will understand.
When I open the command prompt the same thing happens as the other guy, and this occurs, https://imgur.com/GAw2yRR, now if I use any of those commands such as -h it just says unrecognised argument. I am not sure what is wrong, I haven't configured anything else so maybe VLC player isn't in the default file location or something so it can't find it, but I can't find a way to change the media player location that makes any sense to me.
Primarily all I have done, is install VLC, install livestreamer, open command prompt and take it to the respective folder and then try and open it, and try and open a URL, neither which have had much success.
When I do what you suggest and put in liverstreamer to find out what to do next it says "error: no plugin can handle URL: --cd c:\program files (x86)\livestreamer\livestreamer.exe", even though I haven't put a URL.
Any ideas?
Oh cool! Thank you. I didn't know it was up already. She PM'd me here for a couple questions, but I slept in late (as I am wont to do), and it looks like I just missed her on that. Interesting quotes from Todd, though.
It's just a scripting "language". Like "map key 1 to press key 2" or "map (key 1 + key 3) to press key 2", it's just basic arguments. There is in fact a tutorial for autofire on their forums: https://autohotkey.com/board/topic/64576-the-definitive-autofire-thread/
Path of Exile racing is pretty close to speedrunning. Especially the Malachai Kill event, Malachai being the final boss of the game. The linked event was so far the only official one so far. Haven't found any good VOD's of any runs unfortunately. I was dicking around with running PoE during the 2.0 beta about a month ago, was probably 30 minutes from Malachai and I was already at 3 hours... then my PC crashed.
I'm still considering trying to run it, but I've never been that good at racing in PoE. Really want to dig up a VOD of a top 10 from the above linked event to see what kind of builds (besides Flame Totem) are best suited for it. Seemed like Ranger was the 'worst' class in the race event, so maybe I'll try that for lower standards (and a seriously tiny chance at getting a Demi if this event comes up again) :D.
> speedrunning with a flash game
Haha, you reminded me this. That's a cool game (definitely listen/watch the credits), and is already highly optimized by it's nature [](/Kappa)

Still some of the higher quality uploads missing, but I'm working on fixing that by the end of the week, assuming the archive uploader wants to cooperate. It's a temperamental beast.
This is a pretty messy workaround but you could use AutoHotkey to bind your mouse right click to another out of the way key (like / or ~ or something) and then bind far reach to that key in game. Im not sure if livesplit will still steal focus though.
A good game to start with is this. i reccomend going for CHIM%, which is when you type "chim" in level 2. The current WR 1:33.27, but it could change at any time. Good luck!
I took the same approach to my work after binge watching dozens of AGDQ runs a few years ago.
Taught myself a little AutoHotkey scripting and Python3 to write my own hotkeys and automation scripts, brushed up on the various hotkeys of my most used applications, wrote a few Photoshop actions for recurring tasks and started to use http://play.typeracer.com every couple days to keep my WPM up.
I'd love to see more productivity focused content like this, but I don't think it's really a good fit for this community though.
Hey I am speedruning Dantes Inferno too :) You should check this thread out: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/dantes_inferno.html
It has a lot of glitches that you can use to skip many scenes (there is even a infinit jump glitch which is hard). Also one of the commentators there made this HUGE speedrunfaq: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/955368-dantes-inferno/faqs/63608
Keep me up-to-date on your PB, mine is 22:27 on my first try (with a lot of deaths). So it can easily beat the WR of Cfox that /u/Amv posted here if you use some shortcuts. Good luck
While this isn't specifically for Patapon, TASVideos explains how luck manipulation works and its methods. Here's the guide. Unfortunately, there aren't really any resources available for TASing on a PSP, so these methods can't really work so well for Patapon.
There was a discussion topic about attempting to manipulate drops in the final area in Patapon 3, but there isn't anything absolutely conclusive that came from it. Here's the topic, if you want to read about it (possible spoilers).
You could try to experiment and see if there's a way you can game any drops to your favor, but if it doesn't seem very likely after some time, then you may want to let go and route accordingly to good or bad RNG.
I do have currently a Terranigma Lore% run highlighted on my channel: https://www.twitch.tv/yagamoth/v/54456452
I don't have a recent Seiken Densetsu 3 run though. I'll need to get back to that game once in a while. Other than that, I don't know of any full Lore% runners
You might be able to use DxWnd (https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/) to make this work -- I had to use it with Quest for Glory V to make it windowed, and I think Return to Krondor might be on a similar engine.
Since it is a mobile game, you should use either an emulator or a mirror software to link it to PC. This allows you to capture video/audio/stream/etc a lot easier. BlueStacks, if I'm not mistaken, is the most popular mobile phone emulation for speedrunning. Tons of guides and such exist online on how to get that up and running.
LiveSplit is definitely your best option for RTA timings. http://livesplit.org/
Since there are no recorded runs (that i was able to find) you would be the first to submit. That means you'll have to route it yourself. Check out one of my favorite 'how to route' explanations from /u/AnAngryPanda I came across years ago.

If you right click on a livesplit window, you can either edit layout and edit splits. Messing around with those will pretty much get you where you want to be. The livesplit website has a list of components in terms of layout and you can read a description of each here: http://livesplit.org/components/.
Well im also new, so ill help as much as i can. Most runners seem to use Livesplit http://livesplit.org/. What i would do, is check out a vod for someone speedrunning your game, and write down the names of all their splits, that way you can just open up Livesplit, right-click it -> edit splits, and copy down what you wrote from the vod. Then you can also watch that vod to know when you should be "splitting", as in, when one section is done, and you move on to the next.
Im afraid thats all i got, theres a tutorial on the livesplit site detailing what you can do and how to change settings and such, it can be a bit tricky at 1st, but like speedrunning, practice, and it will become 2nd nature. Good Luck, hope it helped at least a little bit.
I'd also like to mention LiveSplit: http://livesplit.org/ You can share your personal best times directly from LiveSplit to PB Tracker, you can use a live graph showing how well you are doing, and you can move each component of the timer however you like! LiveSplit is made for speedrunners. I highly prefer this one over Wsplit
Neverball is a free(gpl) game from like 2002 that's very similar to the SuperMonkeyBall series in terms of gameplay and has a brutal level design (and is harder when there are some levels that are basically equal to SuperMonkeyBall, except that you have to collect stuff in order to unlock the goal)
there's also SuperTuxKart, also Free(also gpl too), a full arcade kart racing game in the gameplay style of games like Pac-Man World Rally, Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart, but with its own quirks, maps and skips. still fun to play even on time-attack mode alone.
I would really like a solution for associating runner names with the people on screen. I spent a lot of time during the Pokemon Blue 4-way race trying to figure out who each runner was on the camera, and I still don't know 2-3 of them. Like, what is the point of showing these 4 people on screen if you don't know who is who?
And then often times someone will say "this trick that I did just now is blablabla" and I have no idea what screen to look at because of this problem.
It doesn't help that the players are often jumbled on stage, like on the TGM showcase.
This has happened in every single GDQ so far with group races, and it's about time it gets solved. One solution I propose, although not very elegant, is to have a unique symbol next to each username and then have those same symbols overlaid on the runner camera.
I modelled everything using Blender which is a great free 3D modelling program. and actually creating models wasn't the time consuming part, level design was. I'd say level design consumed 70% of my time on the Project.
Uh, finally a new SMW runner.
Any% is a good category to start with. It's pretty short and has a lot of tricks you can do in there. (Orb, Zip, etc)
I'm grinding SMW a lot lately, trying to get a sub 10:30.
If you really want to learn all shit about the game, check the Wiki
If you want to watch the Worldrecord run by Menboo, check this.
Any% is really only something if you don't mind resetting a lot, mostly I am resetting after 30 secs, or 1 1/2min. Currently at over 2000 attempts.
But still, i really love the game, even it looks so easy, it takes a lot of effort and time to bring down your time.
So good luck and feel free to ask questions.
