Edit: Maybe also try kids' stories you liked. Someone gave me a Moomin book - I can deduce the odd word from an illustration or character background I already knew and even the easiest kanji have furigana. This helps with immersion quite a bit. The news are great, but it's too easy for me to get distracted if I have to look up too many words in a particular news story.
This looks great, I currently use NHK Easy Japanese News on my mobile for the same kind of thing, but this has that plus more. Thanks a lot for posting it.
Edit: Are there any plans to allow the app to pre-fetch articles at all? Or does too much of the analysing process require an internet connection?
It doesn't show the furigana on chrome for me either, but have you tried this app? It just tried it out and it seems good, though you have to pay the full version to hide the furigana lol.
I'm still bordering beginner/intermediate,but I've found that the best sources are the random bits of japanese you come across outside of the textbooks and look up. Going through Genki will definitely get you to understand everything, but reading other sources will make it stick.
With that being said, various resources I've used are:
This site for drilling hiragana and katakana recognition
NHK Easy Japanese News app for Android, All Kanji has furigana so it's simple to read once you're familiar, although it will be hard to understand for a while
Rikaikun extension for Chrome or a firefox equivalent. This lets you roll over Kanji you find while browsing (as long as it's not embedded in images) and it'll give definitions.
LHScan, which I don't think I can link to, has shittons of untranslated manga on it. Most of the shounen jump titles have furigana so if you're into that go look it up.
Beyond that, I've just consumed shittons of japanese media. Anime, various youtube channels I've discovered (Yuta Aoki and Japanese Ammo come to mind), etc etc. If you're paying attention to what's being said, You'll find yourself recognizing common words while you're learning the kanji for them by reading.
Good luck!
This app? I never thought to look for an app for that, how is it so far?
No bother! I got the name wrong...my apologies!

I was so wrong. it's by aovill

that's the free version. I still think tangoristo is better than even the upgrade version.
