I hate non-turn-based games on touch-screen where you control which direction the character moves around the screen. The controls always suck. The only game I ever played where it was even reasonable was Only One and it was still a little annoying there, but made up for it in other areas.
Just as another example of this type of thing (but unintentional in this case)... A friend of mine released a game called Only One, and got a ton of downloads from South Korea due to a popular [Korean album/song](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_One_(BoA_album\)).

Vortextika is casual game slated for mobile and will be played in Portrait mode. You avoid obstacles and shoot at enemies while picking up power ups (armor, bullet upgrades) and currency.

Not sure if it's this one, but it reminded me of this game I played some years ago called Only One:

You might like Only One. Not exactly what you are looking for but it entertained me for a couple of weeks until I beat it.
Games (Android):
- Only One — check it out on PlayStore. Moderately challenging. You face enemy wave after enemy wave confined atop a tower and everybody has to avoid dying in combat or being pushed off the edge. Definitely winnable without IAP, but if you have a few dollars to spare the upgrade is definitely worth it (fairly cheap for the unlocked benefits, imho.)
- Gladihoppers — can honestly be retarded at times, but still pretty good. Like a discount Swords & Sandals.
- Soul Knight — think RPG, bullet hell, and dungeon crawler turned into one.
App:
- Spotify
- Solid Explorer (better than any and all file explorers out there)
- Google Keep (for productivity)
