Hey, I'm a little late to the party, but this is exactly what I'm doing with my app Piano Practice Assistant for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pianopracticeassistant.ppa
It's a variation on standard spaced repetition software that takes into account the structure of music (sections and subsections) and some other research on music practice. I also realize how individualized music practice needs to be so there's a lot of flexibility. I've personally found it's very effective, but your mileage may vary, of course. There's more info on the app and some general articles about practicing music at my website http://pianopracticeassistant.com/
Edit: I should mention that the spacing effect is most useful for memorizing, not learning, according to this research. My app does have other features useful for learning, like "interleaved" or "mixed" practice.
