I have the same HR monitor. Check out Polar Beat I'm not sure how it will work with the Garmin because I'm using a polar watch, but I know for a fact that it will show HR on the screen during the workout.
Again, not sure about garmin, but polar syncs with Google. At the end of the day, you can see your calories on Google Fit, which will include the workouts logged through Polar.
Seriously, did the Polar people even try to get their Polar Beat app to work on Android? This has to be the suckiest of all the sucky apps I have ever used. It's as if they wrote an app that has no concept of the multi-tasking capabilities that Android has or even what a mobile app is.
Here's what it is like using it. Put on your new H7 heart monitor, bring up the app, see your heart rate. So far, so good. Click the "Start" button and you get a stupid voice countdown. Trying to turn off the "Voice Guidance" from Settings doesn't work. The On/Off slider simply doesn't respond. So you will forever be embarrassed by this horrible countdown voice.
OK, so now you've been running/walking/cycling for a while, you decide you'd like to listen to music, so you hit your apps button, bring up Google Music (or whatever you like), start your music playing, then go back to Polar Beat......and it starts over, completely losing whatever stats you've had to this point. But wait, there's more! If you click Start at this point, it will also lose contact with your H7's bluetooth! So actually, you need to start the app over anyway. Supposedly this whole thing works with Google Fit, but how the hell would I know if the app doesn't stay up in the first place!
Seriously, what a complete waste of an app. You know what is a much better app to use with your new Polar Heart monitor if you're a cyclist? RideWithGPS. It recognizes the Polar H7 heart monitor, provides a great heads up display with map, mileage, speed, altitude, and yes, heart rate and doesn't fall down if you do something else with your phone like select some music or pause to take a picture. Same goes for RunKeeper. Works beautifully without fail.
Why, oh why, doesn't the Polar company just ditch their half-assed attempt at app writing and just work more closely with Google Fit, RunKeeper, and RideWithGPS?
TL;DR - Have a Polar Heart Monitor? Don't bother with the Polar Beat app, it sucks. Just use one of the better fitness apps out there that can work with the monitor (two of them are RideWithGPS and RunKeeper).
Could use an app like Polar Beat or Under Armour Record to record movie watching sessions as "indoor" activities. Both apps connect to Google Fit.
For short tests, something like Marco Altini's HRV4Training app would be ideal (unfortunately this app is iOS-only). Polar Beat has a "fitness test" add-on, but no way to export the test results. If anyone wants to write their own app, here is some code that could be used as a starting point.
Did you check the Polar site, or their Play Store front?
Afaik only Polar's own, called Polar Beat. It requires their chest strap but then works with any watch, also those not having sensors, and also with other brands. The H10 chest strap can be connected to any watch real time. For swimming it records one session in the water without the watch and then transfers it to the phone.
The most in depth review of the Polar Beat app you find here. It's five years old, so I'm sure the app has improved since.

I like Polar Beat. Plenty of features, and works well with the Polar HR monitor, like you would expect.
