On 6/24, a weibo(Chinese version of Twitter) user reveals that the latest update of QQ Mobile Android(most popular cross platform IM app in China) enables a feature that "shares" WiFi information among users. Essentially, it uploads the password & device information of the connected WiFi hotspot to Tencent (developer of QQ) and share among users.
Once enabled, a user can take 2 ways to disable it:
Change WiFi password.
Send an email to Tencent with SSID/MAC information and it will take fewer than 15 days for them to process. This is to verify the ownership of the WiFi hotspot.
IMO this is quite "stealing" WiFi and abuse of user privacy. It's without doubt that Chinese counterpart of NSA is somewhere behind such an act. Until now this only affects Android version of the App since Apple is not likely to approve such a feature (there was an app dedicated to this function got disapproved by Apple before).
Now Mobile QQ is accumulating 1-star reviews on its Google Play page. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tencent.mobileqq
