I quit for the second time a month back. Both times I just quit cold turkey. The first time I made the exception to having one cig when drinking, but then I was back to smoking regularly when work became stressful.
This time around, I'm tracking the number of days I have not smoked using an app. I'm using this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.horner.ronald.cessationnation&hl=en
No exceptions at all this time and it has been great till now. 36 days and counting. Tweeted about it a bit over here https://twitter.com/chupchap/status/850674064167325696
Talking about it publicaly helps as people now ask me often how it is going. This peer pressure of sorts forces me to stay on track even if I think about it once. I cannot let my friends and family down even I can afford to let myself down :)
The iPhone app store has so many different variations of "stop smoking" apps, but I'm having trouble finding one that clearly states whether or not you can input your own start date. But I did find an Android one that allows you to that. Hope this helps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.horner.ronald.cessationnation This app really helped motivate me through quitting! It helps keep track of how much you're saving, how many cigarettes you would have smoked during the time since you quit and tracks your prognosis improvement based on average health outcomes for former smoker. It really helped motivate me when I wanted to crack. It made me realize how much smoking was really draining my quality of life.
Don't worry you'll quit if you really want to.Everybody gets a chance.

A pulled tooth is a great way to start quitting. I did that when I got my wisdom tooth pulled.
You'll notice the cravings when you're 'allowed' to smoke again. Cessation Nation has a Block Destroyer game to keep your mind off of it. It helped me.
Stay strong.
There's an app called Cessation Nation that gives you games to play when you're craving a smoke. It helps.
The biggest thing to remember is that when you want a cigarette, you don't actually want a cigarette. Your jakcass, self-sabotaging, bitch-ass addict brain gremlin wants a cigarette. Fuck those guys, they're the worst. As /u/Armison said, check out my post about cussing that bastard into oblivion. And if you're not quite convinced that this is the method for you, that maybe your love of cigarettes is too strong, check out my post about how much I loved smoking.
You can totally do this! Don't let that stupid brain gremlin get you down. You're better than cigarettes!
Quit Smoking: Cessation Nation
Possibly?
I'm using "Cessation Nation" quite a simple, elegant, minimalistic app. Got all the things you need.
