If you are running out of material, please try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.adityaanand.gre
This has around 50 passages in the default version but you can get access to 200 passages for $1.
Shameless plug, I just released a GRE prep app on the play store. Right now it only has reading comprehensions, but I'm thinking of adding more stuff as well, sentence completion, vocabulary etc. depending on what my users want. My selling point: The app is free, has no ads, works offline and has a better UI than most other GRE preparation apps.
I'd love some feedback :)
Yeah, RCs are often the major stumbling block towards a 160+ verbal for a lot of people. My advice is: focus on improving your retention while you read, by reading the long passages carefully once and trying to answer all the questions without going back to it. Once I realized this, my verbal scores went from mid 150s to high 160s with a near-perfect score on test day.
I used this app for RC practice: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.adityaanand.gre. Try to eventually get the longer 600-800 word passage questions correct with just one slow reading.
Hard to give blanket advice because I'd say it depends on how well you did, but generally speaking the Magoosh Flashcard app should be useful. If you still run into words you don't understand, I’d try the process of elimination and then see if there's any hints within the word itself.
Reading comprehension could also be down to how much time you spend on those type of questions; so more practice across the board should help with the other two question types should give you more time with RC.
Someone on here also created a app for reading comp practice - perhaps it's worth looking into!
I know a lot of people talk about reading the NYT or whatever but imho you want to make sure you put yourself into a situation that's as close to the test as possible; reading a few articles may not help as much as finding more questions to practice from.
Also there's this guide built by @btmbtm.
Hope this helps!
I'm preparing for the GRE, so I searched the play store for apps to help study. Didn't like any of the ugly alternatives so I decided to make my own. Took about a week to make. I found a free and open questions data set, added a pinch of material design and voila!
The app simply has a bunch of reading comprehension questions, you read a paragraph and you answer MCQs. I'm looking for first impressions. I made this app partly because I'm going to use it myself and I also wanted to try making a small app for perfecting my material design skills. How does it look? How does it feel? Any features that you think are missing?
