>If there was a way to get Google music to play and be controlled remote from the computer it would be awesome.
This might be something for you: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marshallofsound.gpmdp.remote
In that case just download the desktop app for google play music here or on the windows store. https://www.googleplaymusicdesktopplayer.com/
Then download the remote for it here. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marshallofsound.gpmdp.remote&hl=en
I will note I only did this with both my phone and laptop on wifi. Have not looked into wifi on phone to ethernet computer. I had no problems with this working and was flawless. Its perfect with my wireless headset when I walk away from my computer and want to change the song.
Edit: One last thing make sure you have "Enable Playback API" checked on in the desktop settings. This is off by default. Then jump on the phone app, go to settings and it will scan and pick up the desktop app. Really easy and nice. Not sure why you're getting downvotes. Anyone who doesn't do this and uses a wireless headset, has incredible pc speakers, or that's their only source for speakers, is missing out.
I went from Spotify to GPM - at first because Spotify didn't have family plans yet, though now that they do I've never been tempted to migrate back. GPM works just fine for me, and like others say the Youtube Red bonus is nice.
Saw a few comments about Spotify Connect.. GPM doesn't have anything that nice, but if you really want to control your desktop from a mobile there's Google Play Music Desktop Player and Remote for GPMDP.
It's not as clean or simple as Spotify Connect but it works well enough for when I'm moving around the house and want to run music on my big desktop speakers. Plus GPMDP is a good alternative to the website (honestly it's pretty much just the website wrapped in a standalone app, but that's all I wanted from it).
The third-party Google Play Music Desktop Player has a remote control app, which works ok. Disconnects and reconnects often though.
Your talking about controlling a pc app from your phone, correct?
If you use this pc 3rd party app for gpm and ytm, it has a companion Android app for controlling it. I use it occasionally and have had no issues.

The Android app is very simple and u only use it for play and pause when I'm in the other room but still listening to music from my PC.

Edit: some typo's, and to add the app has a cool rainmeter widget. Just a visual thing, but I like it.
There is a desktop player. It's a custom chrome tab, it's awesome. There's even an android remote app for it.
If you use a desktop app, you can use this remote app.
Spotify has this feature built into their mobile app.
