I was just looking at dash cam apps and the thing that stuck out (besides the crazy terms) is this:

Talk about heat! I also remember seeing something about it using more battery then the phone is able to charge. That's not good.
I've used Daily Roads Voyager in the past but I'm now using this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.roadrecorder.pro I like how simple the intents are for apps like Tasker.
I run a dedicated Android device (a 2015 Moto E) as my GPS and music player in my car, but I did some research and found a few options you can try.
Route Maker is a basic map maker for iOS, and does exactly what you're wanting.
I also found Map Plus, which is more feature-packed than Route Maker, and even allows you to record GPS, allowing you to map out your rides after you're done.
Personally, I use Road Recorder, which is an all-in-one GPS recorder and dashcam, along with Map Marker to create maps to follow in Google Maps turn by turn.
