The controversy here is that Android was using their Enterprise Developer Certificate to circumvent app store ToS.
The specific app was Screenwise Meter. From their description:
>ABOUT PANEL RESEARCH: Like many other companies, Google brings together market research panels to help learn more about things like technology usage, how people are consuming media, and how they use Google products. This is part of our Panel Research program.
>For more information, refer back to the research panel membership page if you are a panelist. You may also read more about Panel Research at this webpage: http://www.google.com/landing/panelresearch/
There is no way someone would just "stumble" upon this app without acknowledging they were participating in a research panel. This is an opt in service. Google wasn't trying to obtain user information without consent.
Apple is mad because this is not how they intended their certificate to be used. It says in their ToS that if they use the certificate to distribute to consumers, they will revoke their certificate.
This is literally what happened.

Except that app is a market research app
By the app's name and description, it seems pretty god damn obvious that this app is collecting your data for market research purposes.

Screenwise is the app you install on android phone/tablet

Same group as the Screenwise Meter app and browser extension from Google.

Don't worry, you can pause the activity recording when you're looking at porn.
Screenwise Panel. It's free on Google Play, and you just download it to your devices, and connect to your Google account. They literally just monitor what you do and pay you for the privilege.
Screenwise Trends and Opinion Rewards (android & apple) are the two that Google uses to pay to track you (searches and location) on your phone.
Screenwise pays out weekly if you have it installed on your phone and/or tablet; redeem for gift cards. I believe it's based on how you use your phone/searches (used to be a Chrome extension previously as well).
Opinion Rewards accumulates cash in your Google Play account (I usually redeem when there are super deals on books or movies to own; my kids are part of my 'Google Family', so between all of us we own/share over 100 movies). This is based upon your location movements, the questions usually pop up after I've gone somewhere shopping.
Do you guys also have ScreenWise Meter/Trends installed? You may also know it by the name Cross Media Panel!?
I dunno if it makes a difference or not but I've been signed up for both since 2015! It used to have a different name but now it's just called Google Opinion Rewards just like the app you're referring to!
It gives you 100 points/week to keep it installed on a smartphone & 100 points/week for a tablet so you can earn a total of 200 points/week which equals $2.00/week Maybe that's why I'm still getting surveys???
Here's the link if you wanna check it out! https://surveys.google.com/google-opinion-rewards/
Here's the app you keep installed to earn points: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.userpanel
Good luck! :)
It's a Google app that tracks you or something. If you put it on your phone, tablet and computer, Google gives you $3 a week.

Why not set up user accounts for them so they'd have their separate settings? Assuming you mean this Screenwise, separating your things from your family would provide more accurate data too.
Yet screenwise panel requires it.

Do you have access to this.,?
