It breaks up small data requests into multiple SMS messages and sends/receives information that way. For example, you can use this to get map directions when you've got a weak signal and only texts can go through. Or if you've got a cheap monthly plan (Republic Wireless has a plan with unlimited texts but no data, Vzn prepaid does too) you can still do some basic web searches or Wikipedia lookups.
I use it mostly for stock quotes. Honestly I find the idea behind it fascinating and think it's a great backup app to have installed in case of an emergency. That said, I'm a little worried that there hasn't been an update in a while, so who knows how long they'll keep paying for whatever texting plans they use for their servers. Still, nice to have.
It's limited, but you can use the app called SMSmart to get some basic Web searches, map directions, stock quotes etc with no data. It breaks the request up into several text messages and transmits data that way. Worth looking into as a novelty, also works with the Verizon Prepaid $30 plan with unlimited talk and text but no data.
