I use Sweech - it's super simple to use - no complicated passwords or server setup required, and it works across all platforms - just need a browser on the other device, no need to install any other application or set up anything special. The best part is that it's quite lightweight, no unnecessary features or bloat slowing it down unlike other apps.
I'm not familiar with Caja, but typically you can press Alt+H or Alt+. to view hidden files on Linux.
Alternatively, you can try transferring the files over using Sweech.
Afaik Portal can not share files to other device using WiFi hotspot. Also I hate the fact that it uses that QR code scanning thing to identify devices which means app needs camera permission.
Although portal is simple to use. If you don't like those extra permission of Portal then you should try Sweech. It's also very simple to use. You will really like it.
I made this simple file transfer app.
Install it and you can access your phone from any other device (PC, iOS, Android...) with a simple web browser.
But it may not be as feature complete as the alternatives already mentionned.
Hrm. I should try over USB-C — but not with the bundled cable. I have plenty of USB-C 3.x cables myself.
As far as data transfer goes:
I used it to build the client side part of my app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sweech
I really like their approach : give the users the possibility to create their own HTML tags and keep the compatibility with the existing platform. Polymer components are just like any native HTML element regarding events, DOM hierarchy, etc.. No new API
I stumbled upon one or two issues but overall it works well and is easy to learn.
I'm a fan of Sweech. Dead simple and good looking. The creator – /u/alberthier/ – is also active on reddit.
Alternative solution: Download an application Sweech from play store, connect both laptop and phone to the same network. Start the application, enter the IP address shown on the phone in the browser on the laptop.
There doesn't need to be internet available, just a network needs to be available. If router connection isn't stable, you can use another phone's hotspot as well. No internet is used to perform the transfer.
Sweech.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sweech like Airdroid .... test it - you might love it.
It would zip many files you download from the phone... uploading to the phone via drag and drop of a folder with 10000+ files: no problem
In that case, you can use Sweech. Other device can get the shared files by QR code, doesn't need to install the app.
It's also quite clean, nice UI with no ads and trackers

Thank You human.
Honestly, the best option is probably Sweech. The free version will do what you want but you can upgrade it for a few extra features for around $2.
Dropbox and Google Drive aren't ideal as you would be limited by the capacity of the free account to 2 GB and 15 GB respectively, and sending the files across the internet when they don't need to will slow things down.
You want to avoid sending this data needlessly across the internet and just move it locally through your home network.
The versions of SMB in Mi Explorer (v1/v2) are horribly slow and inefficient. I wouldn't advise using it if you have lengthy file transfers. I'd recommend using Sweech instead, it's a lightweight, bloatware-free HTTP file transfer tool and it's a lot faster than regular SMB and FTP transfers.
If you're more after regular sync/automatic backup options (eg syncing your music folder or backing up your photos daily) then check out Resilio Sync instead - it uses the Bittorrent protocol and can easily max out your phones bandwidth for maximum speed.
BTW, FileZilla is malware, you should get rid of it and scan your PC with MalwareBytes ASAP.
FilesGo, but it only works from Android - Android devices. If you want to share from Android - PC or any device (including iPhones), use Sweech.
I've been struggling with this for months, and more than once read through everything in this thread looking for options. Today I found something called "Sweech" in the play store that was marvelous.
Maybe it's terribly insecure and someone here will let me know that it's actually malicious spyware. But for its simplicity and speed, it would almost be worth it.
Hmm it would be possible the other way around, although a bit trickier to make it this seamless. There's an app called sweech that can do that. It also has encryption
And no I'm not sure it's using ftp now

Maybe you can understand more than me
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sweech I'm talking of this.
Always thought it was an ftp?
I use Sweech its a pretty sweet way to transfer.
I use Sweech.
Airdroid used to be the best, now it sucks. I use Sweech instead.
Sweech is pretty sweet, I use it fairly regularly though its for some reason really unknown.

Try this, it does not need the receiver to have any extra app installed.
you can use these apps - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sweech
I use Sweech app with mobile hotspot turned on in Android and Wi-Fi turned on in windows (without internet)
Sweech might work for you
Yeah, it's here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sweech
I'm using Sweech. It's pretty stable, no ads/trackers, easy-to-use UI when connected and kinda utilize full bandwidth of network.
For Android use: Sweech

Super useful app. Send or browse files on your Android device from any other device with a browser.
Use Sweech.
Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sweech
Been very stable for me, even when transfering several gbs of music at once
You can use FTP.
You can use wifi-direct
You can use wifi-hotspot
You can also check Airdroid.
I am personally using Feemv4 & airmore to transfer from android to PC or vice versa. To transfer between 2 android phone I am using wifi-direct feature of send anywhere. Earlier I was using only one app , 'xender' , It can transfer files to PC & android. But, now it's bloated & asks unnecessary permissions , so I won't suggest that app.
Consider using the "Sweech" app. It's really good!
Another great option for this is Sweech
I just tested, it's a great app, nice and simple UI !
Mac support for Android devices is terrible. Most android devices expose their contents through the MTP protocol, which is not something Android specific and well supported on Windows/Linux. Finder should handle this by default.
I had the similar needs and developed Sweech file transfer
