There are likely some options out there that do this, I don't know of any myself, but they would make it hard to game plus it isn't that pretty for chat to see itself on your own screen.
Better options would be getting a second monitor or using your phone. There are specific apps for the phone that have come out over the years to cater to single monitor users, an example of this would be https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tchat&hl=en
To add to it: obviously it's possible to have a proper implementation. Good example is TChat.
The issue is, in a really spam-y channel like xQc's (honestly i used his channel as a benchmark during early development), 15+ chat messages arrives every second, so you have to parse that much message every second. I'm not sure how android's thread pool works, but i would question if it has more then 5 threads.
So you have to parse the message for non-standard emotes, get they links and download them / load them from cache.
Probably the easiest improvement would be to move the download/caching to the adapter, and handle the whole thing with Glide. Right now when a message arrives to the Adapter, the ChatMessage object already has all the emote Bitmaps, this could be replaced with Glide, and handle the image loading in the adapter, which can happen asynchronously.
With TChat I can listen to Spotify while watching a stream. It's a great app, I use it over the regular Twitch app. I suggest paying the extra $2 or so to remove ads, it is well worth it. Although, volume control is iffy since the stream and Spotify are both treated as Media volume.
If you're on Android try TChat instead, it's primarily a better chat experience (as the name suggests) but it's also really great for watching streams!
Oh shiet, alright that's trickier then. Cause the "overlay" portion got me thinking he/she wants to display it on stream.
If /u/ReachH has a phone I would then instead suggest using one of the phone apps to see chat. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tchat&hl=en is one of the few. (it's just the first one on my google search results)
Yeah pocket plays is good but TChat is kinda better
It's on android aswell, I'm using an android phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tchat
Just gonna plug this Twitch-app that I like that has that feature.
I use this app to stay connected to chat. There's probably something similar for iOS if you aren't on Android.
I don't use it, but know people that do on Twitch. It's called Tchat.

Lirik and my favorite streamer's chat are used in a twitch app called TChat https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tchat
