Dare me bro. With this LaTeX editor i can write a report on my phone ten times prettier than your Microsoft Word cave painting

It was easy to tell that what was being done was crude but had colossal potential.
For example, being able to typeset a scientific paper yourself using LaTeX, albeit on a dumb terminal, then print it out using a (colossally expensive) laser printer.
Before then, the paper had to be physically typeset from a handwritten copy, which was slow and error-prone as well as expensive, or the Latin text knocked out on a typewriter and the Greek characters, symbols, diagrams etc. filled in by hand, which looked as cheap as it sounds. I remember exam papers developed using this method being copied with a Banda machine, which produced poor-quality copies in purple ink which went everywhere.
(I have music books from the 1970s and 1980s which were produced by this method, with the musical scores drawn by hand).
As an aside, it is incredible that LaTeX is still very much a thing. If I had the file I could display a 1988 paper on a 2016 mobile phone.
