Bit of shameless self promotion, but Vibration Center can do that. You can even specify which apps can break through theater mode and which ones can't.
There were a couple of similar posts recently where others mentioned they couldn't install Feel The Wear on their Fossil Gen 5 or Ticwatch. That app was last updated in 2017 so it might be in a serious need of an update. You should at least try contacting the developer of Feel The Wear, maybe they can look into making it work with the new GW4? The only other similar app that I'm aware of is Vibration Center. I used it about a year ago and I don't remember why but I remember that I liked Feel The Wear better so I switched to that. But it's worth a try.

Really useful page. Thanks.
I'd add on more app:
Some other tips I'd add to the list: - Configure your watch as a smart lock device on the phone (allowing the phone to not require authentication to unlock while near de watch). - Fossil Sport? Debloat it! - Disable "automatically enable wifi while charging) in the developer options. - Disable automatic updates.
I have the very same problem, no solution so far :( The easiest you can do is to turn on DND mode on the watch when messaging.
Edit: try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.matejdro.wearvibrationcenter
Vibration is not very strong, so I recommend installing Vibration Center. It allows you to add more vibration to notifications.
There is not an app that can increase the strength of the vibration on the watch including Feel The Wear. The Feel The Wear app just allows to you set custom vibrations so you can make it vibrate longer & you can set it to repeat vibrations which is helpful if the vibration is weak. Maybe https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.matejdro.wearvibrationcenter, but that's just a guess.
If you find something that works, please post an update, as I'd like to make note for future reference. [not using IFTTT at the moment, no need (and some of the suggestions sound downright creepy)]
It's sponsored by Verizon, but I don't have an account with them. It's only required for making direct calls/texts with the watch's SIM. If you mainly do it via the phone's SIM it won't be an issue.
I don't use WA but Hangouts, etc, work just fine, as does Tasker. I use Vibration Center, Wear Gesture, Music Center, and of course AutoWear.
NP - check your watch it may allow you to change the vibration setting - mine gives you a couple of options. Alternatively take a look at resource the admins have provided:
https://www.reddit.com/r/WearOS/wiki/tipsandtricks
as they have provided a couple of 3rd party suggestions to enable you to ajust your vibration setiting:

AutoWear isn't very sophisticated alas!
I do have a plugin Vibration Center that you may find handy.
