I use Weather & Click widget. It just doesn't give news and stuff, but provides some phone details like location, next calendar event, battery.

BaconReader - My main reddit app is Relay, but I use BR widgets because you can create custom subreddit/multi-reddit widgets that show you hot or new or whatever you want. I commute by train a lot so it's nice to have that as a quick scroll and glance.

In the weather widget: tapping on the city changes location; tapping on the date brings up the calendar; tapping on the time brings up the alarm clock; tapping on the weather brings up a forecast.
For the toolbox widgets, tapping on any of them launch the toolbox. From there I usually go to Manage -> Task manager to see what's eating my CPU
I use Nova Launcher. I believe the toolbox widgets can be resized small due to that Launcher.
