We've used front-clip Easy Walk (size small medium) harnesses with our basenjis since 2000. They're very sturdy and help deter leash pulling!

I use this one, it was recommended specifically for basenjis:

Here’s the site that recommended it:

This is what we use and are very happy with it.

My pup used to tear apart beds when the bed was the size of the entire crate floor. She wanted out (we’d crate her when we left for errands) and didn’t know any better.
When the internal crate space is big enough where it can house a bed and have extra space, you’re in a good spot. Ours loves this Amazon Basics bed so much that we have 3 around the house. Fits in a kennel with room to spare.

This is the we got. I like that he can’t chew on the cord(even though cords aren’t an issue) it’s waterproof (which is great, we even move it to his kennel/room under the stairs at night and bedtime got easier as he slept longer), consistent heat(warm but not hot), and washable cover.
Be patient! They train you as much you (try to) train them, if not more so. Take an extra-hard look at puppy-proofing your home, thinking "what might a motivated little genius-ninja be able to get into/get at and destroy for fun?" Tissues, remotes, headphones, all that kind of paraphernalia. Be careful with open doors, they're called darters for a reason. With mine, I've found rope toys to be very handy for giving them something to focus that destructive energy on (and, weirdly, this particular ducky toy is their absolute favorite). Bully sticks are great for when they're being extra-manic and you need them to calm down for a bit. Ours have all been under-the-covers sleepers since day one. I recommend a harness for walking.
My basenji was a crazy puller until I bought him this harness. Seriously it’s a game changer. Someone on this subreddit recommended it to me and it’s made our walks sooooo much more enjoyable because he’s not pulling my arm off!

Yep. Something like this . After we’d make a behavior correction, say via a little tug, and got the correct response, we’d tell her good girl, then made sure it was loose again. It’s not helpful if it’s always cinched tight.
We have never had much luck with not pulling - it’s just part of their nature if a squirrel is around! We try to allow as much time as possible off leash in safely fenced areas. We use the martingale collar linked below (size small fits a full grown B). It’s wider so at least distributes the stress over a wider area. We did use a front clasp harness for awhile but our breeder told us it was bad for their shoulders so we stopped. Biggest recommendation for leash training is consistency - every single walk is a practice opportunity. Use a string cheese or other high value treat and teach the pup when they’re not pulling and when they’re looking at you is when they will get rewarded. There are some good YouTube videos on this - it’s very important to reward at the right time.

Bully sticks are a favorite for my pair, but they don't last long (maybe 30-45 min). Anything stuffed is shredded into stuffing and fluff within 2 weeks. My boy doesn't chew this toy, but it he loves it. Carries it around with him everywhere, licking it, tossing it, sleeping on it. Unfortunately the girl makes it her mission to actually destroy it, so I have to buy a new one every month or so. Funny enough, they have zero interest in the little squirrels, only the tree trunk, so i have like 20 little squirrels in their "toy bin" now.
I no longer give them elk antlers because they've both cracked teeth on them. They have had zero interest in nylabones.
I know this is like... a long time delayed, but these have worked great on my two B's...
I live near Cleveland and get a ton of lake effect snow all winter, and they never have an issue with these. They don't seem to mind em too much, and they have only fallen off once over three years, when I didn't tighten the strap enough.
