I've had a shikibuton for just over a year and I don't think that I will switch back to a traditional bed any time soon.
I just bought a jlife shikibuton and it was the best thing I could have done. I have really hard, terrible carpet so I bought an area rug off amazon and it helps. There is a break in period. Your body is so used to a traditional bed that it's gonna take some time to adjust.
What my husband and I did, was buy this bed with a tri fold mattress and slept on them for the first year and then last month we made the switch to the jlife one that is more authentic.
If you're on the thinner side, you should be fine with just the D&D Bed but since my husband and I are larger, we needed the extra padding and had to buy the tri fold pad. With the Jlife 3 inch futon that we bought, we are good with just that.
I never had issue with the fitted sheets. I even had the waterproof mattress protector and a fitted sheet on there and it was fine :)
Ive had less overall back pain since switching to a shikibuton.
I'm not sure if that is exactly what I was thinking of. I'm looking more for the pattern on the sheets, or the weave, or whatever it's called. The square grid lines of raised fabric which look like this. Except, you know, sheets.
These never pill on me
Bed Sheets Set by The August Company, Luxury Hotel Quality Satin Embroidery Twin 3 Piece Bed Sheet Set with 17 inch Extra Deep Pockets, Hypoallergenic Eco Friendly Super Soft Long Stapled Combed/Brushed Cotton Percale Blend Bedding Set-Wrinkle/Fade/Stain Resistant (Grey, Twin) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07NTXBGQK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0R6eFbY8QAK2W
I bought these sheets off amazon for college and so far they are durable and very comfy to lay on.
Thread count is the measure of the number of threads - both vertical and horizontal - in one square inch. Higher thread count equals softer sheets.
100% cotton sheets are usually my go to since they are thicker, get softer over time, but are not super expensive. Percale sheets are usually a cotton blend sheet and they are stiffer than most sheets, but get softer as you wash them. I believe percale sheets are commonly found in hotels to give you reference. Linen sheets tend to be expensive since they help regulate temperature and are stronger than cotton. They are more toward that top tier of sheets, but I have never used them so I can't add any personal opinion.
Hope this helped a little.
I have a couple of sheets I can recommend for you : ) They’re my personal fav.

I've stayed at some really nice hotels, and one thing they all have is a really thick fluffy mattress topper. This one from Amazon is really nice https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07547DNWG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PpOfFbPWRFXG7
You'll also want a high thread count cotton sheets and a nice down or down alternative duvet with high thread count duvet cover. This feels much softer and fluffier than a standard comforter. Most hotels use white colors for that nice fresh look and feel. Also lots of nice pillows, can't have too many pillows
I have this one in the dark gray: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N9OX4K9
It's a dark bluish gray. Goes well with tan, white, forest green, burgundy (jewel tones). I've had it about 5 years and it has withstood many washings. My favorite part is that my dog's fur doesn't really show or stick to it, and the fabric did not rip during her puppy tantrums. So I would say that it is indeed durable. It does have ties inside that have held up as well.
I have 4 of these on my queen sized bed. I love them, they are perfect.
Honestly what I might do, is just get some cheap comforter from Amazon for now, and see how i like it. See if it's really bad or if I find it acceptable. And then if I don't I'll just get a longer term better solution. Basically right now anything is better than the messed up one I'm currently using lol
I have this oversized down comforter and its toasty.
Measure the depth of your mattress on both sides. For example mine is 12 inches. Then measure the sides of the sheets start from the top side where it folds to go along the side to eventually fold again to tuck under the bed but measure it from the top first fold to the bottom. We are doing this to see how deep the mattress is and how much sheet is there to wrap around it.
For example too long make stretchy sheets like my sheex original performance bunch up from the sides however too short or tight sheets with something like flannel can do similar things. You want to look for sheets with thick elastic bands that wrap around the entire bed. Ones that state the depth on them and avoid ones like up to 22 inches if your mattress is like 10 or 12 inches. It makes more material needed to be bunched under the bed the more depth they can support. Try to aim for sheets with a depth of 2-4 inches more than your mattress depth. The next thing can be the type/material of sheets, mattress top cover or under the mattress if there is little to no friction the more the sheets will slide and slip.
When making your bed try to make the sheets lay a far and flat underneath your bed as possible so you don't bunch them. The more you bunch under the mattress more sheet comes out all at once when pulled when moving.
The next suggestion is try these
Basically a belt for your mattress it mainly used to connect beds but I see no reason it couldn't be used to secure your sheets. There is are rubber band like options I would avoid those.
I know clips are not for everyone but these seem to hold the sheets at multiple angles you would likely need help installing.
Hope this helps
Search for an open weave cotton blanket. They used to be pretty popular but synthetics have taken over. I haven't seen anything that loose of a weave in a while but you may come close-ish with something like this
I loved my Pure Beech (went through four sets over the last ten years) and was very upset when I couldn’t get them anymore but I just bought these sheets from Amazon and I like them even better than the Pure Beach! Only $119 for the set and the flat sheet is generously sized, unlike the Pure Beech which was super wide but not quite long enough.https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09JTYQ2LQ?psc=1&smid=AW9ZUZ3YX2G2O&ref_=chk_typ_quicklook_titleToDp
Try these Bella Coterie luxury bamboo at Amazon. I like them even better than my Pure Beech sateen: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09JTYQ2LQ?psc=1&smid=AW9ZUZ3YX2G2O&ref_=chk_typ_quicklook_titleToDp
If you want a lighter comforter, you can try this one. It's way to hot for summer. My house is usually 73 - 68 at night and I could sleep well with it. It's not heavy weight, but it's not too light either.
The Brielle's were almost a perfect match for the BBB sateen sheets (IMO), however, it looks like others discovered the secret b/c they are almost sold out on Amazon. Posting the link here in case you get lucky or can find them somewhere else. The key is searching 'modal sateen 400 count' me thinks! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084HJHPTF?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details&th=1
I like a heavy comforter that doesn’t get hot. I’ve been very happy with this cheapy. Getting the right duvet will also help. I use a sateen Egyptian cotton because it feels cool to the touch.
My husband and I had a similar issue and have been very happy with this cotton blanket. It's a blanket not a comforter, so I don't know if this fits your need but these blankets are wonderfully breathable. We layer 2 when it's cold. Only caveat: they are easily snagged so if you have pets on the bed these will get quickly ruined. We don't, so we love these.

Ok I just found these on Amazon and a few reviewers comparing them to our beloved PureBeech:

I bought our oversized duvet and cover on Amazon. It is huge and we have plenty of covers for us both. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016NU9LIC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_WMR4R4JBPE4C79GF2XP0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
We have this Hombys Oversized King Duvet Insert and it is very fluffy and very warm. I got a thin duvet insert and cover from this brand as well and have been happy.
Is there a reason you want down alt and not down? This one is down, cheap ($67 for Cali King), lightweight enough for summer but still heavy enough to keep you warm in the winter.. and I have two throws over my bed if I need anything warmer in the winter (I just put it over me underneath my duvet, but then again my house is never below 65-70F in the winter-- I have plants.

I got aMuslin comfort blanket and love it. And thisduvet from amazon
I just came across this from Amazon . 100% Hungarian goose down, you get two King size pillows for $230 - you said you wanted a few. That is a damn good deal! Once you have experienced the Hungarian goose down (which is the best in the world), you'll never go back.

Make sure you read all the reviews. They address your firmness questions and also recommend for side sleepers.
Ravmix on Amazon is what I use. Pretty good quality for the price. I would go with a darker color if that would match your bedding, because stains are hard to get out of silk. Some reviews say it's not silk, but there are video reviews of people burning the fabric, and it crumbling like silk is supposed to.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H2X2HL4/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_mnGQbBnnIeKtU
I know this is old. Get silk pillow cases. Silk sheets are slippery. But the pillow cases are totally sufficient.
I also have a silk filled comforter (cotton top) and it is also a nice addition to my bed. Not as fluffy as down. But it is good at regulating temperature. Even in hot weather.
I have purchased the $30-40 pillow cases on Amazon with the highest momme rating. I have these.
The have matching duvet covers, bed sheet sets and bed skirts. Super cute!

Another member put me on to these:
CAUTION: Haven't bought a set yet but on paper, they look good. I like this set because pillow cases, at 21"x32", are a little bigger than usual. Not sure about "stretchy" for your husband though.

I’ve bought a few of these over the past few years and they are soooo soft! duvet on Amazon
Also purchased a duvet cover that’s equally as soft ♥️ Duvet cover
I saw some on Amazon, about $32. As far as the topper, you can see if any are listed as having "deep pockets" or you can get these things that are basically suspenders for sheets. I found some but not sure if sizes matter for them.
These seems to be reasonably priced from Kasentex. It's a set of 2: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08J9FG5V9?maas=maas_adg_6452F4B41E9E1A388D51266C023D918D_afap_abs&ref_=aa_maas

Make sure the item indicates OEKO Tex Standard 100 so you know it's tested for harmful chemicals. There should also be an OEKO tag on the product.

The only lyocell I have is <strong>a pair of pillowcases</strong> I just got 1 week ago. I wanted to try lyocell/tencel out before deciding whether I will buy the more expensive pieces.
I'm on the fence at the moment. They're soft & drapey, but also thin. I normally use 100% cotton sheets between 400 and 600 TC, so this is very different.

I got these from Amazon. I love them! They are soo soft and definitely cooling for me. I am an extremely hot sleeper. They look silky but they don’t feel silky at all. They just feel amazingly soft and they’ve gotten more soft with each wash. They are magical, LOL and I don’t think I can ever use a different sheet!
Look into this mattress pad from Kasentex: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NLJ3NJS
It's OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified so you can be certain that every component of this article, i.e. every thread, button and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health.
If you are looking for something cool, then bamboo or tencel would be nice options because they have lower surface temperature than other materials, even cotton.
Since you are also looking for something stretchy (given the expectation for a jersey knit), I think the equivalence in bamboo is called bamboo modal. I found this one on Amazon but not sure if this is nice since there's no review. If you don't insist on getting the stretchy feeling, here is another one on Etsy within your budget. Bamboo sheets are naturally soft so I think it would feel nice regardless whether it's stretchy.
I personally recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08L9PLWH4
There's no need to spend $200+ on a duvet insert, just paying for brand name at that point.
Hi! I just bought the SOFTEST 100% cotton duvet cover from Amazon! I spent an awfully long time looking for Duvet covers and I was so impressed with the ones I got off of Amazon! Plus the price was extremely affordable considering all my 100% cotton sheets have been over $70 😩

Are you going to put a cover on the duvet? If so it doesn't really matter. There are tones of duvets and comforters on Amazon.

Cotton tends to be more expensive. There really are other alternatives these days. Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JHD45M8?ref=myi_title_dp
They're just cotton sheets with a ridiculous price tag because they're considered a house hold name. They're selling 300 thread sheets for $100+ which is a complete rip off.
You're better off going with: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075F8TCF2
These are the sheetshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06VT8JT68/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1 and this is the duvet coverhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071PBQ5H3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1 I've had them all for about a year and a half and they've held up wonderfully. I think they're both actually a linen cotton blend, and that helps with the scratchiness that people can sometimes feel with linen.
I bought this for our guest room and have thought about replacing our Tempur-pedic with one. It is supportive without being too hard. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B012J1TFTE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_SGZ4NF1DF74D4MN0HM5T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'm in love with these bamboo sheets: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N9L2O9P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. They're silky feeling with a beautiful drape. By your description, I think you may be wanting something with a fuzzy texture, but then you also mention satin which is a totally different texture, so I'm not sure. These are in the satin-like camp... very smooth.
I found a couple that look good on Amazon. Do you have any advice on how to choose between them? They seem the same to me...

Hi there! I don’t have a tempur adjustable bed but it is best to measure the depth of your mattress before purchasing a fitted sheet. Because every company offers different depth size. Make sure there’s more room than having a fitted sheet fit just right.
