You've done it again, r/Blooddonors! Your blood, platelet, red cell, and plasma donations are crucial to the success of modern medicine. There aren't synthetic versions that could replace your donations. Thank you to our volunteers, ambassadors, and blood donation professionals as well!

If you do a two arm donation, then you will not be able to move your arms, use your phone, or drink from a water bottle (at least by yourself). However, you could always purchase one of these for drinking. I personally hydrate beforehand but not a few hours before donation since you will not be able to go to the bathroom. You can call it off whenever you want though so rest assured that you are not trapped.
Also, there are one arm donations. IME, the Red Cross generally defaults to having you do two arms because one arm takes a special machine and you don't get your blood returned if something goes wrong so you are deferred for 56 days. But you would need to call and ask if they have those. I've also donated at other centers and they have all only used really good one arm machines (Trima or something like that). They are actually faster and only use one arm.
That's great, add it to the map!

Awesome! If you haven't already, consider adding this to our subreddit map, it's been growing a bunch and it's crazy to see the amount of donations going everywhere.
You may have Vasovagal Syncope, which causes rapid drop in blood pressure when specific stimuli are applied. It's fairly common (Some NHSBT literature place needle reactivity at 10% of the population). If you feel it's unsafe for you to donate, stop. And if you're worried about the aftereffects please talk to your GP.
This is the kind I take. I don't recommend ordering it from Amazon though (they've been known to sell fake items), instead I get mine at my local pharmacy. It has vitamin C in it, which helps absorbtion (you could also take it with orange juice).
I've never had any issues with it myself, and recently I started taking it only every other day (I tend to have thick blood, so I don't need it as much). It is a little more expensive than alternatives though.
Long time soyboy and platelet donor here and my iron is often just below the threshold (13), even with taking 25mg of iron daily these in particular. Check out the app called AnemoCheck if you want to get a good idea of your iron levels beforehand (it’s been consistently very accurate in my experience). Good luck to you.
Along with what the others are saying this has helped me too, I get there early and drink this while I wait in the car. Usually hits me in a few minutes and helps! https://www.amazon.com/Natural-Vitality-Anti-Stress-Supplement-Raspberry/dp/B07ML4MWY2
The one I’m taking atm is currently unavailable online. This is the closest thing I found to it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P71VKBK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_dl_WJ91G6G54ESZHDBWYYXC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It appears to be out of stock lol sorry. I just got some pretty recently so I’m still set for a while. I just picked the first gummies that weren’t either expensive or used gelatin.
That's really cool! My blood bank sends emails or app notifications, but not texts.

The map pins are generated through this form
The pins track all of the locations our blood has been sent to. If your organization doesn't provide destinations feel free to put in where you donated. Northern Ireland will be a nice pin to add!

Great question! Donors here are welcome to submit information about their recent donation to our anonymous survey.
According to common blood volume calculations a woman of your size has 6-6.5 pints of blood. Once you lose 15-30% of your total blood volume, it’s considered a class 2 hemorrhage. If someone with 6 pints of blood donated one, that would constitute 16.5% blood loss. 6.5 pints of blood, donate one = 15.3% blood loss.
Nah, stay safe my small but brave nugget. Keep your strength for another good cause :)
