I’ve been into keyboards for a few months now but I’ve somehow never gotten around to posting my own on here! although I change everything up so often that it’s never the same week to week and it usually looks like a hot mess lmao. right now I’m testing out whether I could bring this into the office so I’m trying to make it as quiet as possible. still haven’t tried PCB tape or lubing the switches (although they don’t really need it IMHO) but I think I’ve got a winner!
specs: - keyboard: Royal Kludge RK84; came with both PCB & plate foam, no other mods - numpad: Epomaker TH21; can’t figure out how to open the dang thing to mod it - switches: Akko CS Jelly Black linears - stabilizers: mostly Durock V2 clear plate-mount with 1-2 stock stabs in there; all clipped, lubed, & on bandaids - keycaps: YMDK YSA profile, blue & white - cable: Epomaker Macaron - deskmat: Novelkeys Stone
(edit: added link to the keycaps & corrected the name, although they’re definitely more teal than blue)
Gateron Pro Silvers and JWK splash bros for more budgety lighter pre-lubed options, KTT roses for when I want to lube (I also spring swap them), agreed that oil kings and milky yellow pros are also awesome though!
These are AF SA profile. Those sets are usually only around $50.

Oh I didn’t end up painting it. Got lazy and just bought KBDfans steel grey case to replace my original clear transparent one. It’s a matte grey finish. Wrist rest i picked up a while ago off Amazon for just 10 bucks. https://www.amazon.com/LTC-Keyboard-Computer-Anti-Slip-Inclined/dp/B09MWG9VVH
I have these on my Purple NK87 EE and love em! Sumgsn is one of my favorite budget brands, however, if your budget is up to $100, you're going to find a lot better quality keycaps than these. Just figured I'd throw these out as an option between super cheap and the upper limit of your $100 limit!
There's currently a 10% off coupon (maybe only for Prime members, but it ended up being $37.55 shipped for me on Amazon US.
Hi everyone, I'm looking for something cheap and realiable in games, preferably 60% and around 80$ pricepoint +/-10$, can be without keycaps (i have 1 or 2 sets for start), hotswap and avilable in Europe will be nice and avilable in Poland even nicer. Was looking at Dierya DK61E https://www.amazon.pl/DK61E-pod%C5%9Bwietlenie-Anti-Ghosting-wodoszczelna-oprogramowaniem/dp/B0B184V4W3/ref=sr_1_6?__mk_pl_PL=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=1R0OK2UJTPZ08&keywords=klawiatura%2Boptyczny&qid=1670465932&sprefix=klawiatura%2Boptyczny%2Caps%2C130&sr=8-6&th=1 which seems good for its price. Ps. Im gona mod it no matter what becouse i have ton of proper lube, car dampeners and silicon.

What about this blue Q3 ansi for $137
I'm looking for my first keyboard and a little overwhelmed/not sure where to start. I'd ideally like something I can customize a bit down the road but would hopefully not need to do much more that swap a couple of keys to start. I'd appreciate any suggestions :)
I'm looking for: - cute aesthetics to brighten up my day a little. Something maybe with a white, translucent, or pastel base. I have a plain black and a stainless/black soft touch keyboard already for work. - easy hot swappable keys - rgb capable - Bluetooth capable so I can potentially pair it with a tablet as well.
I'm not sure about - budget. I like the idea of the "click" for personal use but it can't be too clicky for work because I don't want it to interfere with calls/meetings. Do I go for two less expensive keyboards to try out? Or try to find something that will be a compromise? My max budget is around $110. I do have a pretty quiet keyboard currently so if it's user friendly I could potentially switch keyboards out for meetings lol - switches. I was looking at red but idk if there's a better option - size. I have long fingers and don't want my keyboard to be too compact. Also open to getting a cute lil separate number pad.
These are a couple that I've been looking at but I'm not sure if they if they would be good for a beginner
It was $16 off of Amazon. There are some others, same model but pink, for $18 right now. This one looks exactly the same but it has wireless and Bluetooth. However, it's $50! The review by Matthew R. Marler really does a good job of covering the aspects that make it less than ideal compared to other, more standard keyboards. I wish I had read his review prior to buying.
This is the first time I've gotten my hands on a low profile keyboard. It's actually pretty neat, but the more I look into this particular model, I'm not sure how I feel about it.
The switch spacing and low profile GTMX switches, on top of the oddball layout, greatly reduces the options for keycaps. I have some normal sized keycaps with stems long enough to attach to the switches, but because of the closer switch spacing, the keycaps rub against each other. When I bought it I was considering desoldering the switches to swap to better ones, but the spacing pretty much defeats the purpose of doing it.
I've also discovered that one of the wires from the battery to the PCB either got pulled out or cut somehow right at the connector. It might be a JST PH 2-pin connection, but I'm not sure.
The switches in mine are GTMX browns, supposedly tactile. But there is no bump at all. They really do feel like linears.
The inside is kind of unusual too. Rather than the PCB sitting on top of the empty space of the case, it's like you're opening two halves of empty space. I'm not sure how else to explain it.
Oh yeah, but stabs are weird too. There's some sort of housing under the PCB. First time I've seen that sort of thing. I should take pictures of all of these oddities.
Anyway, I've rambled enough lol. Half of me is tempted to mod what I can and see how it sounds. But is it worth it...I don't know.
The "PCB foam" mentioned here is actually forming a very thin barrier between the switches and the PCB. Like these switch pads: https://www.amazon.com/ZugGear-DUROCK-Keyboard-Switch-Pieces/dp/B0B942VCMV
I used this on my RK68 to both fill the bottom of the case and to make my own gasket between the plate and PCB, and it worked great. Really added some heft and got rid of all hollow sounds.
It was super time consuming to apply, then cut out all the switch holes for the plate, but worth it in the end I think.
Definitely not a pure white. The Cool Kids caps I have are very clean white, whereas these are more of an off white.
I wouldn't really say they have much brown or cream in them, but more of a dove white, if that makes sense (I think in BM paint colors haha).
The set I got is HERE.
I put Gateron milky yellows in my Alice80. I wanted linear and they are by far the most popular/affordable. Thinking about trying to find some quiet light tactiles to try next.
The other recs for key caps are good although you might be limited depending on the profile you choose. I found that sets above 130ish keys generally would work well. Finding that extra 2.25 and 2.75 space bar was still tough. I used these: Botanical 147 Dye Sub ZDA PBT... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FFBNBLQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
One of these’ll do the job, stick one on each key, dampens them pretty nicely!
203 Pieces Keyboard Cleaner... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08PCVX23Z?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And stuff some packing foam in the actual keeb (carefully)
Cheap desk pads abound too, and dampen it a bit, plus they look nice!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1T7LSHB/ref=dp_iou_view_item?ie=UTF8&th=1 They knocked off about ~25 bucks from the usual price.
The Amazon UK page has a decent amount of reviews. I know Amazon ones aren't usually the best or most detailed, but better than nothing. Looks really good though!
Thanks, at the moment I am trying to decide between that one and the Feker IK75Pro:

Hello! I recently realized I need a keyboard for my laptop. I ordered one on Amazon that had decent reviews, then I discovered this group. I ordered this key board: Tilted Nation 65% hot swappable because it was discounted and there was a $20 coupon so the total was $35.99.
It has not shipped yet so it is not too late to cancel the order. Will this keyboard be ok or should I cancel the order in favor of a more well-known brand?
Use: Lots of typing, currently online Master's program
Budget: $100 max would be ideal but I know its usually better to pay once for quality than multiple times for garbage.
Layout: I originally thought I needed a full keyboard but I do already have an external number pad and my laptop keyboard is basically a 65% anyway so that is what I ordered.
I would prefer something that comes in a color other than black. I really like bright colors but I think I may have already been drawn in by pretty colors to the detriment of quality.
I definitely need a prebuilt and preferably one I can get delivered quickly. I really need to be able to raise my laptop higher to help with neck and back pain and I can't do that without a keyboard.
Thank you for your help!
Thanks! I’m already hooked. Planning on ordering another RK84 to mod for my gaming setup at home😬
I got it from Amazon as well. It’s not the best quality as the ends have started fraying already, but it does look great!
Keycaps: I bought on amazon no name but here is the link
Switches: Tecsee sapphire
Mods: Bandaid mod and luped switches.
Honestly I didn't do much and it already sounds great.
Where i can get that coupon? I thought about buying Keychron c1 used like new one and about hexgears 707 on aliexpress for $40. But with i think i can get new Keychron c1
I'd get the Nimbleback LTC lol ;) (check my profile- it's in lots of my pics- I painted it and changed keycaps and it turned out great!) it's hotswap, has fun RGB modes, and has just been really reliable for me. I have several keyboards and it's my fave.
Have you checked out the CIY X77 TKL? Currently @ $38 after coupon.
Anyone tried the YUNZII KC68?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09H229GQR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_12?smid=AEC7TQV321O67&psc=1
I am looking for a 65% wifi, RGB, hotswap, with gateron yellow switches (lubed would be perfect) for under $100 (needs to be on Amazon).
Ideally in black / transparent black but white is ok if that is the only option.
This seems pretty good but I can't really find any good reviews on it.
If it's expensive or you find another brand of dielectric grease that you like, I think as long as it's dielectric grease it should be fine.
I just, personally, have used the loctite brand, and am pleased with how it works. I'm sure others are fine as well.
Just be careful that you don't pick the wrong loctite if you do choose to buy that brand.
You may like Hexgears as they make solid pre-builts. I have a similar full sized that has been exceptional. Amazon has a few models on sale now including these if you see a color you like. Red switches a little quieter but the caps and the typist play into it alot
sorry, I should’ve included a link - I didn’t realize they aren’t on YMDK’s website! as much as I hate to say it I got them from Amazon and apparently the color is “blue & white”, but they’re definitely teal in person.

If you can go a little bit above your maximum budget, this should be a good board: Akko 3068B. It has hot-swappable sockets and is also tri-mode
Maybe try the Dierya T83, instead? It's supposed to be a rebrand of the popular Feker IK75 and it's currently selling for 60 dollars on Amazon US after the coupon: https://www.amazon.com/DIERYA-T83-Mechanical-Programmable-Translucent/dp/B0B48V61C5/ref=sr_1_3?crid=134RW0C6NZ0LM&keywords=dierya+t83&qid=1666580933&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjQzIiwicXNhIjoiMC44OSIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=dierya+t%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc
I'm not sure how good the stock switches are, but if you end up wanting to swap them, then I'd recommend upgrading to the Gateron Yellow Pro 2.0s. You can buy them for very cheap at a trusted vendor like Divinikey or Dangkeebs.
$18 with coupon in pink and $24 with coupon in white.
They go on flash sales/lighting deals at least once a month.

Gateron Milky Yellow Pro is a great linear you can get on Amazon, comes pre-lubed and very affordable. For the price it is hard to beat this switch. Definitely A tier, and some would even say S tier. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6BFC199?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
Looks like most of the Akko (non-lubed) switches are on deal now, too: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08XX7TTZB/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A2D2ZUZD9IEPI6&psc=1 – $11.99 for a single pack of 45, though you can only buy one
Plenty of clones, usually Cherry profile, are currently on sale for Amazon Prime Days. I just picked up this Hammerhead Clone right before it went on sale, and while I'm salty, it is great and my new favorites so far. Generally most keycaps, and switches for that matter, have some kind of sale on Amazon now. Just make sure you check other websites or camelcamelcamel to make sure they didn't price hike right before to make the deal seem better. Akko has a lot of ASA, and they are great and thocky, but something SA profile should be close to ASA as well. I'm surprised those are your two options. I'm so fast on Cherry profile, while ASA sounds and feels nice, but I stumble and mistype much more.
Here's some real cheap switches via Amazon
8$ for 45 switches. Pre-lubed. For a quick solution where you don't feel like lubing they work. I'll still take Akkos over these but hey, they're 5$ cheaper than the usual batch on Amazon sooo...
https://www.amazon.com/MAGIC-REFINER-Dustproof-Compatible-Mechanical-Keyboards/dp/B0B6FKT993/
Idk too much about mechanical keyboards but I just purchased this $40 CIY 75% keyboard with gateron yellow switches. Found it through a post on this subreddit. https://www.amazon.com/CIY-Hot-Swappable-Mechanical-Keyboard-Aluminum/dp/B09HRMRG4H
Seems like there aren't too many reviews for it but people on reddit seem to like the CIY barebones kits so I went with it. It kinda looks like a RK84 but with an aluminum side frame, and also there's a 60% version for the same price on the same listing.
I got this after getting recommended it here. It's a full set IK75 clone for $60 (but doesn't come with the extra PC plate). Even if you don't want the switches/keycaps (like me), $60 for the barebones board is still a great deal
I genuinely don't feel I have to mod anything in this board, not even the simple tape mod. My stock stabs don't rattle or tick and the board doesn't sound hollow to me.
Thanks! Amazon
Does it need to be a compact-75%? because otherwise the better option would be a QMK enabled IK75, or the Keychron V1.
https://www.amazon.com/EPOMAKER-Swappable-Mechanical-Programmable-Compatible/dp/B0B28CKG9V?th=1
Quick update on this.
TLDR: This is an awesome little numpad, but no, it does not appear to be programmable.
So, I just got mine in the mail, and like the OP said, there's nothing in the included manual that even mentions software. I was able to contact the seller (who was INCREDIBLY nice and responsive) and they sent me a .zip file with some software and a Word doc of the manual in Chinese.
The software seems to just be a driver... </3

I'm returning it back to Aliexpress (yay 15-day return-for-any-reason policy) and getting an Epomaker TH21 from Amazon instead. It's supposedly completely programmable (on 3 separate layers), but it's NOT wireless at all.
If wireless is a must for you, the Skyloong GK21S also programmable and connects via USB-C / BT 5.0. I actually have a black, wired-only version of this numpad that uses optical switches, and I can confirm that it's programmable as hell, but the software takes some getting used to. Pretty sure you could probably find a black wireless version of this on Aliexpress, too.
jwick v2 T1 67g came prelubed from kprepublic, i'm using it now & its pretty good stock tactile, only $32 for 110 pcs:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZBDZVT9?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details&th=1
of the boards you mentioned ... IK75 > TH80 > NT75 ... in my subjective opinion. I have the first 2 and enjoy them both, but my IK75 definitely sees more desk time. You could toss in the akko 5075 (have that as well) but the IK75 and Th80 definitely feel more solid than that one. You could even consider the prebuild this Dierya T83 which is basically a IK75 clone in a prebuild configuration for only $60 bucks. you wont have the PC plate option, but it has case and plate foams, same knob, and double batteries. Would likely want to replace the switches and keycaps. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B48W3P58
I don't remember exactly - I know Microsoft Edge has a feature where it finds coupon codes for me automatically when I shop (works at checkout), so that might be how I got it. But I did also create an Epomaker account.
Also, obviously I had to buy switches separately, so I got Gateron Milky Yellow Pro switches (pre-lubed) from Amazon for only $33. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6BFC199?psc=1&ref=ppx\_pop\_dt\_b\_product\_details
My first was the Epomaker TH66 and I love it. It sounds great out of the box with no modifications but it's very easy to change switches/keys if you'd like to eventually.
Do I only need to buy switches and keycaps separately? Is it otherwise ready? I just don't need to pay for keycaps and switches I don't like so much?
This one would be perfect, if it at least had the arrows. It even comes with a coiled cable.
I've been eyeing RUNRJX stuff on Amazon for a new build recently but haven't been able to find any meaningful impressions anywhere on their quality. A couple of items I had my eye on were these Holy Panda clones:
I'm on the fence between these two options or just going the safe route with boba U4ts. Just curious if anyone's taken the leap on these.
I live in Belgium so i use the amazon from France, we use the same keyboard layout (azerty) would it be possible to use these keycaps for example and to put them on there?
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0B587Z8SR/ref=ox\_sc\_act\_title\_4?smid=A21G1C0OA1S7UQ&psc=1
Or maybe I should just build it? This looks interesting: https://www.amazon.de/EPOMAKER-Skyline-Keyboard-Backlight-Compatible/dp/B09VL14WLZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_32?crid=Z3Y4ZGGBMWVJ&keywords=sakko+tastatur+barebone&pscroll=1&qid=1661927971&sprefix=akko+keyboard+ba%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-32&wIn...
But I don't know if I can do it, I would not be surprised if I order wrong size everything. If I order from the same brand, will they switches and keycaps fit?
Is there any other brand in German amazon that has pink or transparent bases with hopefully more or less pink keycaps?
I would be most interested in buying something brebuilt and then modify it later, but I just can't find anything that is 75 % in size, that has a pink or purple base and it would be extra nice if the base was transparent.
There's another listing you can use to get a second one with the coupon: https://www.amazon.com/YOOSO-Mechanical-Keyboard-Water-Resistant-Tenkeyless/dp/B08R74TFK2/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=3NIFGH3N0AYTU&keywords=eyooso+mechanical+keyboard&qid=1661632092&sprefix=Eyooso+%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-5

For keycaps, I like the various different XDA profile AliExpress keycaps, or basically any keycaps from Amazon with a decent amount of good quality reviews (I know not all reviews are genuine, but I feel that if you ever DO have any problems, Amazon returns are super easy).
For example, I've been using Sumgsn and Hyekit keycaps from Amazon and they work perfectly fine for my builds.
Hyekit PBT Keycaps 135 Keys... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B28P3ZM6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The "benefit" of omnipoint switches is that you can change the actuation point of the keyboard (meaning you can change how far the key is pressed before it inputs the keypress), it sounds interesting, but in the end it really has no benefit on typing or gaming.
Based on your comments, pick up an EVGA keyboard on Amazon while they're still on sale (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Keyboard-Hotswappable-Mechanical-821-W1-15US-KR/dp/B08VNT658R).
Solid build quality, on huge sale right now, and does leave some potential for modding in the future.
none that I'm aware of. If nervous about going through AliExp vendors, you could go through Amazon for more assurance. The vendor on there had them for 19.99 usd but looks like they raised the prices on all the feker switches so the matchas are now 21.99.

You could get some white on black keycaps and dye them red with this. Only the legends should really take. I plan to do this myself to get the red on black set I've always wanted. I just haven't got around to doing it yet. I even have the caps and the dye sitting in a bag just waiting.
Eeek, NVM, was thinking of another board. I am using these for plate mounted ones. I completely blanked, my apologies.
These are the ones I use on the KBGM68Pro. They are 'no name' (Sumgsn) but have served me well on over a dozen builds.
I second this. I got the Atomic Purple NK87 EE with the 75$ clearance price and it was one of the best decisions I've made this year.
>It only requires that you add washers for the screw in PCB stabilizers.
Yea, this is something that needs to be pointed out for newcomers. People usually recommend buying the following washers: https://www.amazon.com/a15112300ux0387-2mmx4mmx0-5mm-Motherboard-Insulating-Washers/dp/B01ARADX88/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3KTKKUJFNG7V0&keywords=pcb+washers&qid=1659914427&sprefix=pcb+washers%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-3
If you have electric tape, then you can use those instead. Simply apply the tape around the screws for the stabilizers and you're good to go. Now, I should also point out that the stock stabilizers that came with my keyboard was almost impossible to stop it from ticking and rattling. I've heard others with similar stories, so you're likely going to buy new stabilizers and most come with washers. If you want a stabilizer recommendation, then consider the TX stabilizers. As you can probably guess, I got those for my NK87 and they are amazing in my honest opinion.
I was only able to use 1 o-ring per screw as they weren't long enough. Putting them between the screw head and the mating surface. These were the screws I used, just make sure not to over tighten. The o-rings on the PCB were probably the most effective. The case screws probably just helped reduce the energy transfer from the plate vibration.
Here were the o-rings I used.

Thank you. I got it off amazon in a 4 pack. It looks like the greens are sold out now.. go figure. Here is the link! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2D8373M?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
It's a Grifiti fat wrist rest that I cut to "fit" with a hacksaw lol. While the aesthetics look harsh in the light of day, it words surprisingly well as the keyboard has a really tall chin.
This one I think.
no worries. While I'm using it to also fill the empty space in the bottom case, its not really so much for sound but rather to make the board feel heavier. These are just steel weights they use to balance the rims of your car. something like these

I'm going to try this kit I found on Amazon, it was $10.
This was the one I was looking at, mind you there’s an additional $20 shipping fee for me on top.
The caps on the main board are these:

And the macro pad uses a few of these:

For real... iLovbee i61 was 20ish, now is 25ish... still stupid cheap given the board has shockingly good stabs, decent reds, AND foam between plate/PCB to reduce ping.
All I did above was get a set of Akko Lavender Purple, left stock, and swapped in in after putting a bit more foam in the underside and tape. NOTHING ELSE. So this was a 15-20 minute setup... for what... 40$?
The LTC Lava range is pretty good, they have plenty of options including an XDA pudding set, which I am using right now on my 60%. Look great, feel good, but the sound is a bit higher-pitched due to the relatively thin keycaps (when compared to my other XDA set)
Actually - I would reccomend the Sea Salt variant from Epomaker instead. The keys are much "whiter", the keys on the Milk and Honey set are closer to a cream/off-white than true white. I have owned both and got the Sea Salt variant specifically because the Honey one was not white enough. Get em' here
Can't vouch for the others on the listing, but these Comet clones are quite nice.
These Matchas are also good.
Apparently, some of the q series like the q2 are already on Amazon with more to come. The price increase of 20 dollars compared to keychrons site and 30 dollars from the launch price are to offset the cost of dealing with Amazon.
They will be selling barebones and prebuilts, but honestly, if you are in the US it is smarter to get the prebuilt from divinikey as you'd be saving 30+ dollars since they offer the q series at launch prices with free shipping. The only reason I could see buying from Amazon is if Divinikey is sold out of a particular unit or you want a prebuilt and want faster shipping compared to getting it directly from Keychron.
So this is by the same vendor “ Sumgsn” as the Milk & Honey set /u/RazorNion mentioned in the thread and have seen them referenced quite a few times. Also good reviews. https://www.amazon.com/Botanical-Keycaps-Suitable-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B09699XBH4
gliging is a common "brand" you will see but since most of the sellers of keycaps are just reselling stuff from aliexpress don't get too hung up on brands. Like here is a set of japanese black on white cherry profile keycaps I own but under the gliging name, I got them from aliexpress a bit cheaper yet 28 bucks isn't a bad deal, but there also a decent number of different sets with a similar theme in other profiles.
So I know tenting is popular with split ergo boards, and alice/arisu layouts are all the rage, but with this one I can't help but think of this.
Anyway, looks promising, but likely a pass for me as I've got an ACR Pro Alice coming (in theory anyway. I'll believe when it's actually in my hands).
I did a little measuring - stock GAS67 stabs have a screw hole of just under 1.2mm diameter and just under 5.0mm depth (rounded to the nearest tenth). Probably want to look for M1.2 x 4mm with coarse threading (at least not too fine or it'll be hard to screw into an unthreaded housing).
As for the case screw holes, the diameter is very close 1.6mm and the length is around 7.5mm, with relatively coarse threading. We're looking for an M1.6 screw with a length between 5mm and 7mm.
I think I might buy something like this because it has M1.2x4mm and M1.6x5mm screws, but it could be cheaper to just buy small bags of 100 for each type.

Rest can go towards keycaps, foam, lube, and tape!
