Sure! I didn't know what I was doing really. I just bought a dog playpen like this one and used wirecutters to cut fencing the length of each side of my balcony. Then I just bought a bunch of cheap zipties to secure the fence. I didn't use any magic, just kept using zipties until the fence couldn't be moved!
You can see my bird netting there and some rings attaching it. That's one part I want to improve but I'm not sure how. I would put the netting much higher, but I have a busy hummingbird feeder up above that kitty loves that I want to keep open. Weirdly and adorably they have a cute friendship with the hummingbirds that show up every day.
Oh it definitely saves a lot of space! I also went over it once with a stain to match the banister a little bit. I'm thinking about replacing the pots with these
Bonus: Not one of the cats has managed to chew anything on the ladder
Our outdoor catnip got HUGE last year... I thought I planted mint lol.
I feel like I’ve even seen catnip plants at the grocery store, outside with the herbs and other sad potted plants.
Wheatgrass, or mostly any grass, is still good for kitties. Catgrass is just a bunch of grasses from random grains.
Another option - I had a balcony that I was going to secure and was considering using balcony netting (like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LY8W0LN/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_10?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1). We moved so I never did it (and the cat really didn’t like the noisy city balcony anyway) but I noticed that others in my building had used a similar product on their balconies.
I forgot exactly which ones I bought, but there are tons of different options on Amazon and home improvement stores, in the USA at least. They all seem mostly the same, but just look different. I had a couple left over and made a little food & cat grass area indoors. :)

This litter box would fit right in! I realize though that not all cats like the box being covered. I was lucky all 3 of mine took to it just fine.

SSSCAT is a similar strategy, but motion activated :)
We use bitter apple spray to deter them. Grannick's Care Dogs Bitter Apple No Chew Spray 8oz Works like a charm, they tried it and didn't do it again. Now they mostly ignore all my plants assuming they taste awful.
Amazon or chewy are your friends here: PetSafe SSSCAT Spray Deterrent https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RIA95G/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_JFTPBMPVSYSR2YFKH7GE
I have a very curious boy who is into everything. These are basically a can of duster with a motion sensor, and it works like a charm without using things that your cute kitty might ingest that could be harmful. I'd set it up in the pot and let it rip.
Good luck!
Got mine from Amazon but you can find similar ones at most craft or home stores! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0768BCVSY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Would recommend looking at your local craft store first but I wasn't able to find anything the right size and had to resort to Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0768BCVSY/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o02\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Got the shelves abt 2.5 yrs ago, gone thru 2 moves and still they stand. My trick: zip tie the grid shelves to the bars that hold them. They hold weight like you wouldn’t believe it, I sit a 10” plastic pot of ivy on the top shelf. (Get good zip ties I bought black ones from HD)
I have a window sill one, that I think I'd trust more than a straight up window one. This one says it supports up to 40lbs.
I have one that’s 20 lb and another that’s 18 lb and mine holds them both without issues. It can hold up to 55lbs. Just make sure you clean the area really well with rubbing alcohol first. This is the one I have: Double Cat Perch
It's from SSF but I'm based in Southeast Asia. I have found one that you can purchase from Amazon though: https://www.amazon.com/Lavish-Home-Bathroom-Shelving-Decorative/dp/B00MP2Q0OQ/ref=sxin_9_sk-bs-2-na_f38947d1d156a6012fa7588f98bc04bf91fffdd9?cv_ct_cx=ladder+shelf&dchild=1&keywords=ladder+shelf&pd_rd_i=B00MP2Q0OQ&pd_rd_r=9d4d9a45-1...
The shelves are fold-able if you unscrew them, so you can stack tall plants as well. Hope this helps!
Yes! They’re a bit bright for a living room lamp but it’s been fantastic for my plants. I used two GE vegetative growth bulbs & one to promote blooming just in case but they’ve actually got them at grocery stores now! Here’s an amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NN6SVG6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AUTLEbCYMJHSQ
I love this stand, it's really lightweight and rather compact but still has heaps of shelving. You can can also get versions with an upper bar for hanging plants, but I didn't opt for that because I'm too tall for them (6'2"), so I did my own DIY version.
I bought my shelving here: https://m.catch.com.au/product/artiss-bamboo-wooden-shelf-plant-stand-folding-ladder-storage-indoor-outdoor-3627945/?sid=Bamboo%20shelf&sp=4&st=32&srtrev=sj-pili4btw2cpq5yzkfc9pgs.click
If you're in the US you can get versions on Amazon from here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079SJS6RJ/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_t1_mlGjEbSB9QWWV
