Yeah one of these guys. It came with the phone and was part of the inventory list, but strangely I didn't get a headphone adapter that was also listed in the inventory.
I have a cooling scarf type thing with tiny ice packs in it. There are websites that sell nothing but cooling clothes. I have a heat affected autoimmune disease so I have to be really careful. It sucks.

Amazon has a hat in their United States Census 2020 store: https://www.amazon.com/Officially-Licensed-2020-Census-20-00/dp/B089KQFN2R/ref=sr_1_41?dchild=1&keywords=2020+census&qid=1602729376&sr=8-41
I don't have a car either. I work in SoCal suburbs, only been assigned cases within about a mile and a half of my house. More than 3/4 of my daily cases are even closer than that, so if I'm having a "ugghhhh I don't wanna" day, I can just ignore those cases. Make sure your CFS knows you don't have a car. Mine does and they noted it so that if I do slip below what's expected of me, I won't get bitched at. Walking at a moderate pace, I can do about 20-25 cases in a 6 hour day.
Remember, HYDRATE OR DIEDRATE. Your census bag has room for a 1 liter bottle of water and a normal sized Gatorade (move the hand sanitizer somewhere else or get some on your belt loop). Remove everything except what you need to from your bag. You're not going to go through an entire stack of papers in a day. You only need one pad of information sheets and one pad of NOVs.
You're gonna be walking, so bring earbuds for your personal phone and listen to something. You're gonna find yourself sometimes 30 minutes between houses. If you have a power bank, bring that just in case, but my census phone is usually at ~35% at the end of a 6 hour.
Wear walking/hiking/running shoes. Comfortable footwear is key. I feel like that should go without saying. Sun hat. I have a tan fishing hat that keeps the sun off my neck. Cargo shorts or just shorts generally and a breathable shirt (I'm partial to Hawaiians). Sun screen up, too. Don't want cancer or sunburn. I made that mistake on my first day. If you're a male, I suggest baby powder/corn starch for your undercarriage and butt. For the ladies, go for corn starch (baby powder can cause ovarian cancer) or something like Monkey Butt. Petroleum Jelly or A+D Ointment is also good. Chafing will happen if you don't work to prevent it (learned the hard way, once again).
I'll edit later if I can think of anything else.
This is what I got. $37 with free shipping, you can charge it overnight then bring it with you. Keep it in your census bag, plug your census phone into it via the phone cable (it has a USB port) ... and you'll be good to go for the full day.

One of my team members got this:

It's a USB rechargeable HEPA filter, you get constant fresh filtered air instead of smoke or your own carbon dioxide.
He said he couldn't even smell the smoke most of the time.
I have been wearing a giant green gardening hat. Besides keeping the sun out of my eyes, I can use it to shade my Census phone screen and - maybe best bonus of all - I really notice a difference in how people respond to me when I'm wearing it. I think it puts people at ease (and I wear a flowery facemask). I've definitely noticed a difference when I was not wearing the hat.
Sunscreen
Also a cooler with snacks (including salty snacks) and LOTs of water.
My husband does the annual bike ride across Iowa in the heat of summer, and he recommends Gatorade.
Stay safe out there!
Never said anything about that? I agree with the rest.
I just disagree with you about the IDs. Easy enough to pick up one of these and make a little fake badge. That's part of the issue. I'm pretty sure the Census just used a bunch of those to print our IDs.
It isn't like they have any sort of quality like a actual state id would have. So your personal example doesn't exactly apply.
> Nobody is gonna go to all that trouble just to get your name, age, and race, old man.
I mean, it wouldn't just be that. There's a reason the Census has been saying that the bureau won't ask for your social, money, etc on their socials. They just need one or two hits to easily make their money back.
I'm a Sweaty Sally and I bought a few of these shirts and NO pit stains! They are way more comfy than I expected. I usually have sweat dropping down my back after the first hour but not with this shirt https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BTL8M8A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TcuqFbR17TWKX
