I hate to be "that guy", but those style carriers are very bad for our doggy's hips. They're not designed to handle the weight like human baby's hips are. If you want to get a carrier, I suggest a sling style one like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016QTMBUK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JpnCCbGVQKC68
Amazon! He is wearing a this Puppia harness in a size Small. When he was a puppy this brand is the only one that would fit him but he outgrew the XS and has been wearing a small every since. He is about 5.5lbs. I highly recommend these ones as it has held up very well!
I don’t know if this will work (or if it’s allowed) but this is the one I bought: K&H Manufacturing Bucket Booster Pet Car Seat, Small, Gray https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B004ZJOKL2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_15CBA1YTSTXQ4PT412QV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
We take the dogs to our cabin 5 hours away every couple of weeks, so we went with the type that can also be used as a leash (for the potty break halfway there). We don't use collars on the dogs ever, so we've got their regular harnesses that they attach to. There are some that click into the seatbelt, but I've read reviews that they sometimes don't work with every vehicle, and besides, we load up the seats with dog beds and blankets. I've linked one at Amazon that is similar to what we have. We've had ours for a few years, so I'm not sure which brand we went with. https://www.amazon.com/Bwogue-Restraint-Adjustable-Restraints-Seatbelts/dp/B078G6MKTN/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2FP0VX1VWU1AP&dchild=1&keywords=cat+harness+for+dogs&qid=1614360332&sprefix=car+harne%2Caps%2C323&sr=8-4

Edit: Wow - I guess I don't know the proper way to link. My apologies - it's ugly but it'll get you there.
I got the plain jean jacket on amazon and then added on patches and studs myself!

My dog likes to play with everything, mostly smelly socks which he takes and shakes them like a prey he just killed. He chases anything I throw away but loves most his tiny ball which is really a cat toy but good for him because of the size. He also likes to play with my feet or fingers like this
He does NOT like the squeaky chicken, but it may be because it is too big and scaring him

this is the one if youre still interested!
We live in Arizona so we have ready access to this food but you might have to order it online. They also have a dry kibble that is very healthy for your pup. Testament: my roommate has a Chi almost 18 years old, and this is what he eats. Now that he’s older, of course, we also make him his own mix because his little old self gets picky sometimes.
Consider a seatbelt that clips to the harness. In the event of an accident, the sweet little chi becomes a projectile. My chi has something like this. Buckles in to the seatbelt then clips like a leash.
I have tried probably 10 harnesses and this is the only one that fit properly! It’s actually a cat harness. It’s a size XS. I think he will need the Small soon though. I got it from Amazon. Here is the link! Harness
Amazon has the same coat for cheaper too! But you can find all types and styles (I just searched "winter jackets for dogs").
I use cartilage chews with my girl. She hates brushing. She gets a yearly brush at the vet and the bully treats work really well for keeping her teeth cleaner.
There's a caveat. You can't just give them the treat they could choke on it. You need to hold on to one side while they tear and take away the parts that break off. So they're chewing but not really eating it. I wish I'd found them earlier.
Amazon has a 25 pack of 6" bully treats for $20 and that's a couple/few Months worth allowing her to chew one over the course of 3-4 days.
The bonus is they love them. And it's a nice bonding experience to hold the treat while she chews. She thinks I'm helping her.
None of the other stuff is safe. The greenies and rawhide etc. I did a ton of research and the bully treats from cartilage are about the best thing chewy wise you can get. Be careful of the dental chews. Most if not all of them are really bad for the dogs. Check the ingredient and then google them. You'll be surprised how much truly bad stuff is marketed as appropriate for your beloved.
Here is what I buy.
6-inch Joint Jerky Dog Treats by Best Bully Sticks (25 Pack) All Natural Beef Dog Treats https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014JOTMOW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_.pbczbWQ0FAX4
As they chew isn't shreds and pulls through their teeth. In the end you need to take the dog in for yearly cleanings at the vet. If you can find a low cost clinic it's around $250-300 but it can lead to a 50% longer life. Just getting their teeth cleaned and they won't be in pain from tooth ache.
Hi there. I got steps from amazon and they work really well. They come in two sizes. I got the taller version because we have a very tall bed. They aren't the most attractive things, but I put an artistic touch to them and now they are really cute and I get compliments on them. doggie steps
I get it shipped every 2 months via Amazon. Since she gets half a packet a day because of her size, each box lasts 2 months. And thank you!

I got it on Amazon! He’s 5lbs. exactly so I got the 0-7lb. and there’s room to wrap him in a blankie during winter. Here’s a link:
I don’t know about toys, although small dogs can be surprisingly game for larger toys, but this is the harness I used for my chi when she was a baby, and it comes in very small sizes. Edit: The same manufacturer makes tiny collars. You may have to go custom-made though.
Also, damn, people need to breed chis to or above standard. That’s sad.
I have a Dremel 7700 but I believe the 7300 is specifically for dog nail grooming. I mainly use the 1/4" head and sometimes the 1/2" if I need to take off a lot.

Great product that works much better than the cone. Wish the vet would have recommended it. We bought two.
Pet Safe Easy Walk! I have one that fits my 5 lb chihuahua. It's great because the placement of the leash pulls from the chest attachment point, which also helps a lot with forward pulling (if your dog has bad walking manners like mine does).
It’s actually a Moby baby carrier. He can’t walk too much anymore because of his arthritis - he’s about 15 yrs old - but he loves walks and I’d never leave him behind.
The hoodie is from Idepet. Here's the link.
The size of these hoodies is off by at least a size though, hence it's a good idea to buy them one or two sizes bigger .
Came here to say this. Socks with Pawz work great.

Amazon sells a sling that has been a life saver for me. My Chi would fight me like a wild animal when I tried to cut his nails. This thing worked like a charm. He just hangs there and lets me do it. I put a broomstick between two chairs so it wasn't so high off the ground.
Our chi also hates clothing, but we can get a vest on him because it goes on like a harness. He just steps into the arm holes and then we zip it up along the back. Nothing goes over his head -- things going over his head like a regular shirt drive him batty. https://www.amazon.com/Didog-Weather-Jacket-Winter-Clothes/dp/B01LQ5CDO8/ref=sr\_1\_23?crid=1JF8DJH90PL91&keywords=puffer%2Bdog%2Bvest&qid=1667573308&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI2LjY3IiwicXNhIjoiNS41OCIsInFzcCI6IjQuMzgifQ%3D%3D&s=pet-supplies&am...
Mine didn’t like the one that went over his head, I don’t know if it hurt his ears or what but this kind you put their feet through and wrap around and attach in back. Hope things go better for you and your chi 🐶
My chi also has a long torso, we use this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0949139PY/ and it seems pretty soft on him and supportive. Hope you can find something for your little one :)
I haven't personally used this harness but I've heard good things about it for those with collapsed tracheas. It stays lower on the chest but doesn't work for all body types.
You're welcome! My little man is super sensitive to basically anything going on outside when it's time to go potty, so I understand lol. Here's a lightweight leash that's long enough to give her some space:
I can't find the exact ramp I used anymore, but this one looks similar. It was a wooden frame with carpet texture. The raised bed is about 8" off the ground so the incline wouldn't be too steep. Before we got the ramp though, I just padded the area around the bed with a few somewhat firm pillows!
For the bed, I got a medium sized one so my old Shi-Chi had some space to adjust without sitting on the metal bars. Word of advice though: the bed can be kind of difficult to put together - the trick is to sort of warp it a little bit like this so you can get that last screw in. (Took me like 30 minutes of sweating and straining to put it together without a second set of hands lol)
In my old boy's last few months I got him one of these mesh raised beds.
It helped him keep cool and I feel like it was easy on his joints rather than a bed that sat on the floor. Of course, I also got him like a small ramp to help him get up and down so he wouldn't hurt himself (hardwood floors can be rough for our old buddies).
Aw thank you so much!! 🥰 I just purchased this one off Amazon, hoping it’ll be okay for my lil guy! https://www.amazon.com/Bedsure-Orthopedic-Medium-Removable-Washable/dp/B0B6HMG653/ref=sr_1_18_sspa?crid=3BQMJUIMT19VP&keywords=tempurpedic%2Bdog%2Bbed&qid=1664670889&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI1LjUzIiwicXNhIjoiNS4yMiIsInFzcCI6IjQuNzcifQ%3D%3D&s...

Bought this in xxs for my 4.5lb chi!! We love it. Comes with a leash that isn’t easily tangled nor too heavy for my chi. Harness itself is also easy to put on but once unclipped easy to take off. Adjusted right, he can’t get out of it once clipped in.
I really like this one for my chi. But he's not much of an escape artist. He would probably follow me off a cliff.

I use this one with my 6lb chi. The way it goes around the chest and belly makes it impossible for him to slip it, and it has adjustable straps to make it fit your tiny pup. Plus, it has a handle on the top that when Pacha is being naughty or is too tired to keep going, I can just pick him up like a bag and keep carrying him. 😂
I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you 💔
About two months ago me and my chi were chased by a loose pitbull. Luckily no one was hurt as we were able to escape. Though I honestly still feel a bit traumatized by the whole thing.
After that, I started carrying this dog repellent with me on our walks: https://www.amazon.com/Halt-91427-Dog-Repellant-Spray/dp/B001AZMH46/ref=asc_df_B001AZMH46/
I haven't had to use it yet and hopefully never will, but I feel so much better that I will be able to protect my dog (and myself) if I ever need to.
We got one of these inflatable collars that act more like a pillow and our babies didn't pout as much once we switched lol
I was in the same boat as you initially. I read about 50 books ranging from clicker training to horse training (useful to learn how to use your tone of voice for training). Many of the books I read I tried but didn't help. I will say every every dog is different but here's a couple I found useful and would recommend to others:
The Genius of Dogs: How Dogs Are Smarter Than You Think by Brian Hare and Vanessa Woods - great insight into how dogs think and see the world. One of my favorite books.
Don't Shoot the Dog: The New Art of Teaching and Training by Karen Pryor - She's a well known trainer best known for clicker training. She was even able to train a crab! Even if you don't use a clicker there's a lot of good principles you can use from her positive reinforcement teachings.
The Other End of the Leash: Why We Do What We Do Around Dogs by Patricia B. McConnell - This is a great book to understand how dogs interpret our own behavior, and focuses on our behavior in comparison with that of dogs.
The Dog Rules by Kyra Sundance - she's an elite trainer and uses positive reinforcement. If you want to do advance training this is a good resource.
For videos, this guy Dick Russell aka "The Dog Man" is legendary
It's on Amazon, there is a white and pink and a black and pink version. Like I said lily's 2lb body is a bit small for the extra small but when I overextend the velcro it works then pin it down so it doesn't look wonky. If your pup is like 3lbs or more, it would probably fit perfect.
Sadly you won't find my review because I'm at war with Amazon . They religiously shut down my ability to review. Then refuse to say why. 😒
Unfortunately, I love Amazon so I stay lol.

Very sweet!
Seeing her nails, I wanted to share this nail grinder with you I got off Amazon. I had trouble clipping my chi's nails for the longest time (we both hated it) and after I saw how easily the groomers were using a Dremel I just had to get one too. It's super easy and it has a built in little light.

Go to Amazon. ca and put dog calming bed in the search bed. My dog went in it immediately and really chilled out. He's an older gentleman who's blind and deaf from age and diabetes. In the evenings we often hang out watching Television, eating dinner..very informal. He likes to roam around and make a bit of a fuss about when we having dinner. Now I plop him in the bed and he just settles down. If he's hot, he keeps his body out but his head on the lip of the bed. I read one women saying she bought one bed and her dog loved it so much that she bought 3 or 4 more so he'd have one in every room lol. I got the medium as my guy is a Chi mix but the small would have been fine. The size varies from bed to bed, a small may be drastically different from bed A to bed B. I have only had it a week but I think it was a great purchase.
I’m just gonna leave this here.. Do with it what you want.

This is what we used and granted we had to go through several cans. Dogs were also having allergy issues at the same time due to bones we were giving them so that exacerbated the issue. I had no idea my wife’s alarm at the first sight or the 6 months of hell I was in for. Good luck and definitely spray your carpet!
We were looking for safe car seats or harnesses but found that only a few were actually crash tested so we ended up going with the "Kurgo Tru-Fit Enhanced Strength Crash Tested Smart Car Dog Harness"

It’s from HotterDog I think it’s a UK company but you can buy on Amazon
Yeah. I don't think my chihuahua likes very plush surfaces or foam surfaces. She prefers to lay on something flatter, like this cat cave I got her or on top of blankets.

I got a fake grass toilet like this and it works for me :)
I got so tired of cleaning her wee from my carpets! So happy I found this. I don’t have much grass in my yard, and she refuses to get her feet muddy. She wants to pee on something absorbable so it doesn’t splash back onto her, which is why she was going on my rugs and carpets and not my wooden floors.
You can put puppy pads down in a designated part of the house. You can spray them with Go Here* and train them to use the pad.
I have a 4 lb chihuahua who goes for walks, but would rather do her business inside the house on a pad.
We use our extra bedroom as a laundry room / doggie pad room.
Super helpful, also, if you are away from the house for work for 8 hours. They don’t have to be in pain holding it all day.
I use something like this with my other dog that backs up to get away. I haven't had a problem with it. Love the name diesel. That's my cat's name.
When they don't want to be bothered, they'll make it clear. Walking away when you're petting them, turning their head down and kind of shrinking back if you try to pick them up. Pay close attention to your chihuahua's mannerisms, respect them, and y'all will be just fine. Of course occasionally you might be forced to pick them up when they don't want to be, I just wouldn't make a habit of it. While some like to cuddle this breed, they are not always the cuddly type and can become irritated when they are constantly bothered.
Sometimes your chihuahua might like to go into cozy places, such as under your bed or in a cage. It's just a safe space for them. Don't be discouraged if the dog seems to spend a lot of time there.
For some reason, my chihuahua goes absolutely bonkers for these treats as well as the occasional biscuit. You might not be able to go wrong with these tasty treats unless your chihuahua is toothless :)
Honestly you’ll be surprised at how quickly they bounce back! They will give you a plastic cone at the vet so she doesn’t mess with her stitches but I recommend you order a small donut like this https://www.chewy.com/calm-paws-basic-inflatable-dog-collar/dp/243444 which will make it much more comfy for her to sleep. That was the worst part for my chihuahua, getting comfy with the cone on. As soon as I got her the donut she was much happier.
Aaa, so sorry, may he rest in doggo heaven 🙏🏻❤️ the jacket had to be red but from Amazon they send me in pink cause the red was sold out here I got it in XS cause he is pretty small, maybe only S in the future cause he started growing up
I bought this one for my chihuahua and she’s obsessed with it! She’s got like 4 beds around the apt and this is the one she uses the most https://www.chewy.com/frisco-plush-pouf-pillow-cat-dog-bed/dp/261522
I trained one of my chis to use [LUCKYPAW Dog Muzzle Anti Biting Barking and Chewing, with Comfortable Mesh Soft Fabric and Adjustable Strap, Suitable for Small, Medium and Large Dogs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CXTPNSF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_JYHVNNSGV3SWWZ5QR6EM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1](this) one, he is a bit of a snapping turtle at the vet, he doesn’t mind the muzzle at all it’s adjustable and soft he puts his nose right in it.
My Chi doesn’t like hard sole shoes (well, any shoes really, but definitely the hard sole are his least favorite), so I use a soft sole style with waterproof exterior with fleece interior that have a drawstring to tighten around his ankles (otherwise he looses them within seconds).
My Chi doesn’t like the cold, so in the winter he is out and in again in the least amount of time possible.
The shoes we use are similar to these YAODHAOD Dog Shoes, Dog Boots Paw Protector, Winter Warm Comfortable Soft Soled Dog Skidproof Sneakers with Reflective Straps, for Small Dog (Size 5: 1.9"x1.5" (LW), Pink) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08L4HTX95/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_PXPNYWA1FW08M42MD0FF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Both are from Amazon!
Here’s the link to the snowsuit: small dog snowsuit
And here’s the link to the boots: small dog winter boots
I like the boots and snowsuit a lot, the snowsuit is super warm and has a harness d ring so it’s way to put a leash on, and my dog has super small feet and these are the only boots I have found that stay on. They are pretty water resistant and they keep her feet warm. And she is also wearing a snood from Canada pooch
I have one like this Outward Hound Puppak Dog Front Carrier, Small, Grey https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0081XIJ42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_8SGT7XVM58M1GAT0F3N9 My Chi likes it and I can zip him inside my oversized hoodie.
We bought ours from Groupon. They've sort of softened into a ramp over the years, but they work just fine.
My chi-mix uses these in Minnesota weather and it works great for us. We just stick his coat on top. On really cold days we stick socks on under and they stay on because of the boots. They are hilarious looking.

Fluffy Donut Calming Dog Bed this is a link to the one on chewy. However, if you have a Ross’ store near you they are about 11-15 dollars cheaper. I ordered one of chewy and then seen some at Ross so bought 3 more. But these three still only share, where ever Alvin goes Tanner goes and lays with him. Acuff just instinctively goes to that one even though I’ve showed him where the others are.

I recommend heated blankets and a sling - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FVFD5JG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_9RDP8HJEFGC3WBMYF7X8
My baby is 14 and has spent half of her life attached to me in one of these bad boys. Especially if they’re cold, being needy, or can’t walk fast enough, it’s an easy way to do stuff together!
Sweaters are a necessary part of my gals life. Your little one may be too small for an XS sweater so I recommend cutting some head/ feet holes in fuzzy socks to make an impromptu turtle neck!
Since you’re in a cold environment, I also recommend investing in a good amount of potty pads. They’re easy to put on the floor for a quick clean up after an accident, as well as a great training tool. If you have carpet, you may want this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071W6CQ7S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_YJQV0K1Y0NRHEAMKNRQR
Last note: I find that the Veterinarians I want to go to are pretty busy. Call now to schedule a visit so your vet gets to know your baby/ have a detailed health history on file. The vet will usually (at least they should) set up a vaccination schedule so your pup can mingle and explore once the snow melts.
For names, I recommend Felix or Martín ❤️
Best of luck with your baby!

This was a game changer for me.
We buy these for our chis. They LOVE them. They work really well.
They say they are washable but I don't recommend it as they never work as well after. We made washable covers for ours since the chis basically live on them and they started to smell like stinky dogs!
I was worried if the pads might get burn-the-house-down hot if the chis dug them up so that they were folded over on themselves but it's never been an issue. The dogs will dig, they'll get folded, then the dogs will lay on them and the heat is OK; I have plenty of time to roll my eyes and lay it flat again.
I really can't recommend them highly enough.

I would also suggest keeping a really good flea spray around the home, there are some great non-toxic sprays that naturally kill fleas. This one is my favorite! I just commented on another post about the new coats we got for our chihuahuas. They're not super expensive, water resistant, easy to wipe off, and have the harness clasp built into them. The sizing can be a little inconsistent though so definitely measure.
Our 12 year old, Taco, hates the winter but he seems to like his new coat a lot. When I take it off of him after being outside for around 15 minutes, his little body is WARM. It covers the majority of his entire body since we had to size up for him bc the sizing is weird.

His feet were too small for boots so I cut the fingers off some touch screen gloves (so they had a little traction from the leathery part) and sewed a velcro strap on each to tighten it around his ankle. He didn’t like them but he got used to it eventually and it was the only way to get him to poop in the snow.
We just bought new winter coats for our chihuahuas. They're not super expensive but they're water resistant, easy to wipe off, and they have the harness claps built into them. We take their jackets off after our walks outside and their little bodies are WARM. Our 12 year old, Taco, always hates going outside in the winter but he seems to like his new jacket better than his old ones. He won't wear boots for me though.

It took a while to get to me, but worth the wait, it helped to have it on my bed for a while, just so I could still see her. My pup bunny loves to cuddle with it lol
Amazon has thesethese. One end is like a dog leash and the other side clicks into the seatbelt.
They still exist, there's even one with Obama's face.
I use this for my chis, I felt it was but small, so I bought 2 extensions and it's enough space to hold their bed, water bowl and pee pads.

Although I prefer his custom made snowsuit with built in boots because it is easier to manage than putting on all 4 boots and a sweater/suit separately.
My former chis ate kibbles, but didn't eat much so we just free fed them, and that was fine because they could hold for potty until we can let them out.
My current chis, I have to literally sit next to them while they eat otherwise they only eat little bit because they want to come and cuddle with me rather than eat.
I don't like to feed them wet food because chis are notorious for bad teeth and mine aren't interested in dental cleaning sticks, but I give them wet food once in a while, and they gobble that shit up whether I sit next to them or away from them. 😂
Have you tried wet food for your chi? If you don't want to give only wet food, you can mix it up with kibbles, hills have wet one for puppies as well, I'd buy a single one just to try if your chi likes it or not.
