I use the program Calibre for doing all my conversions on the mac. It's updated very often, very versatile, and is available across Windows, Mac, and Linux.

As far as the DRM protection goes, it really depends. The Adobe DRM is pretty horrific. Apprentice Alf has a free plugin for Calibre and a stand alone app.

First you'll have to down load it. *If* it's already in a format the Kindle can read (.mobi) then you can plug in your Kindle and it should show up on your desktop. Open the Kindle on your computer desktop and you should see where you need to copy the .mobi file.

If it's not in a Kindle readlable format (ePub), then I suggest you get Calbre. (I'd suggest getting that either way.). Calibre is 'sort of' like iTunes for eBooks. It can do conversions and so much more. Once you have it in Calibre (just drag it onto the icon), you can use Calibre to convert the file and send it to your Kindle.
