Here's a link that's explains it, see point number 3:

Just have to wait for the dust to settle if there is a financial collapse then you see which bank survives. Also note that might not be a bank, as I think everything will eventually move to blockchain (including GME shares).
I had the same question. Finally found an answer here: https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/how-corporate-actions-affect-your-options/
Stock Dividend
If you own options on a stock that pays a stock dividend, the number of shares in the contract will increase by the dividend amount, while the strike price will decrease by the dividend amount.
If you own options on a stock that pays a stock dividend, the new options contract ticker will have a number added to it.
The expiration date on your contract won’t change, but you won’t be able to see this new ticker in the app unless you owned the option before the corporate action.
You’ll only be able to sell this options position because you can’t buy additional options contracts on a stock that’s paid a stock dividend.

Naked short selling is a problem and a stock split via share dividend should in theory hurt naked short sellers.
I don't use Qtrade, but my second DRS from TD took 4 weeks and my first one only took a bit more than two weeks....bullish!
Now I just buy directly on CS using my wise.com account.
can confirm this, i first tried to set up US funds account through my very helpful credit union to do like you suggested but things went sideways and it couldn't happen that way. I signed up on wise.com, funded it, and two purchases later am a happy shareholder.
Not here to spam but if you use wise. You could use my referral link. If 3 🦍 use it I get 115$ and swear to buy a drs with it. You also get a discount. You only have to convert to US $ when you add money in your account. My link. https://wise.com/invite/i/martinc2393

BMO and IBKR seem to be the cheapest (from all the posts i've seen). Questrade is $300 USD
It's not necessarily easier to buy through a broker...you just have more control over the price you are willing to pay per share.
I've made several purchases through computershare the last few months and because they keep tanking the price.....I've always got them at a lower price then what I thought I would pay....it's worked out well.

Note: if you setup a wise.com account to purchase shares directly through computershare. All canadian credit unions have wise a bill payee....so you don't need to do a wire transfer; you can just send money to wise.com using the bill pay feature in your credit union account.
If you were to transfer again. Please use my referral link. Won’t cost you a thing and I might be able to buy a few more directly from ComputerShare thanks to you.
So, I was able to open a Loopring Wallet, but instead of using the credit card, I activated it by transferring some of my LRC coins from Coinbase (LRC was used to paid for fees).
I was able to add my Wise.com US account VISA card afterwards without any issues (got a notification from Wise that Loopring did a check that the card is valid and it passed the verification), and now I'm able to buy additional tokens via L2 Loopring wallet using my Wise.com Visa card.
You need an American account and transit number. You can either open up a Cross-Border account which will provide you with these numbers or some Apes are using wise.com to fund their CS purchases:

I have....it's pretty easy to do. The only two additonal costs when purchasing thorugh computershare are.

If you use wise.com to fund your Computershare purchase, it will cost you something (for me it was $25) to wire the money to wise. You can also use a cross border bank account with one of the big banks...I've read those accounts are about $10 a month.
EAch purchase within computershare costs $5 + 5 cents a share.
The only downside to purchasing direclty through computershare is you don't get to set a price. You put your money in and they buy at whatever the current market price is.
Make an account. Upload your ID to get verified. Link your bank. Load up the money in CAD you are willing to part with. Convert it to USD. Look for where you can get a US Bank Account set up for a money withdrawal - Can’t remember exactly what the option is called but it will give u your US banking info on the page. I can check tmo and report back. Then go to Computershare and log in. Go thru purchasing GME. State how much you wish to purchase - use the total you have in USD in your WISE account. Then enter your WISE Bank Info and submit. Voila - now its just a waiting game. Wise should give u an email soonish after that the money was taken from you account by “Gamestop Corp” and I’m still waiting for the purchased shares to show in my account.
