You'd think that with an abundance of aphids ladybirds would be flocking to your garden.
Nice one, more great advice. Two more questions if you don't mind:
Do to store your food scraps in a smaller food bin inside your house? If you do, how often do you dump that into the hot bin?
Can I compost used cleansing pads or water wipes you'd use to wipe a baby's bum? This could be a source of urine 😁 not sure about poo though...
I've never managed to grow basil outdoors over here tbh. I think our winter climate is too wet/windy for that. Do you have any warm windows in your place? If you do, you can always get a telescopic plant holder, fit it to your window and then stick your basil plants on that to keep them out of your cat's way. I have indoor cats too and it takes a bit of juggling to keep the toxic plants out of their reach while giving them the light they need.
I used to suck at growing basil as well and it's my favourite herb. All it needs though is a warm window with lots of light and no overwatering. Basil will droop when it needs watering, so when I see the leaves drooping. I give it some water. Otherwise, I leave it alone. Let the soil drain well when watering. Don't let it sit in any overflow, otherwise there's a chance of root rot. That's all it is. Warm window, lots of light, no overwatering. I just buy the cheap potted Lidl basil and grow that.
I ordered mine from Amazon. A bottle this size would last a lifetime Neem Oil - 500ml Pure Cold Pressed Premium Seed Oil From India https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CKCLZHN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KPD1QA8C5QXQ5S030ZR0 but you can get it in smaller quantities too. It’s semisolid at room temperature and liquifies when warmed, similar to coconut oil.
Weeds are just plants in the wrong place 🙏
I joke, get some strong weedkiller and blitz them. Especially as it's on stone so no worries about getting it on other plants. Get a dilutable one and add it to a watering can. Or get a spray (like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-675108-Pressure-Sprayer-Assorted/dp/B000LFXTJ8/ref=asc_df_B000LFXTJ8/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=205291394354&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10019464630336060961&hvpone=&hvptwo=&am...) in a gardening shop or pound shop. I find them great.
I don't have much to offer you, except to say that I have done the same.
I bought a 2-headed one in September https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07NYPGPP7 .
I had a few seedlings popping at the time, and wanted to ensure they got a bit more growing out of the year.
The plan is to have the light on for a couple/few hours before sunrise(cheaper electricity/not drive the house mental).
All I can say that the one I have is strong enough to clip onto a windowsill by itself. The bulbs get a fairly warm - I was hoping they would be a bit more efficient. The 'aluminium shell' on yours is really acting as a heatsink.
They seem up to the task and cannot do any harm I guess ... the plan is just to supplement the winter "sunlight" we get.
