It sounds really similar to that, but not quite. It has a slow start and an sweeping finish. It starts at 16:00 and goes to about 17:30 during episode 8.
Upvote for trying :D
Edit : According to http://www.tunefind.com/show/hell-on-wheels/season-1/10291 you are right, but it just sounds different. Like they've made a better version.
My favorite author is Ralph Compton. And I really like his Trail of the Gunfighter series. The first book is The Dawn of Fury. I highly recommend it.
The big one is Empire Express by David Hayward Bain.
It's got literally everything that there is to know about the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. Unfortunately Bain isn't the greatest writer and it can sometimes feel like the book that never ends. He goes into excruciating detail about every little transaction that occurred from start to finish--with one glaring exception: He practically glosses over the Credit Mobilier scandal, summing it up in a fraction of the pages he so often enthusiastically devotes to the most insignificant minutiae. That was a vast disappointment to me, but if you're truly interested in the TR, this is really the only book that truly covers it all. I don't regret reading it at all.
Steven Ambrose's book Nothing Like It In The World is universally derided by railroad historians and scholars as chock full of factual inaccuracies and not worth the paper upon which it is printed.
I will stand by my date, It has rarely failed me though if a change in schedule occurs the app does update to show the change.
