Be sure to check out that video by "The Space Station Guys" on How to photograph the International Space Station.
It will take quite a bit of gear to tackle this to that degree.
I have seen some pretty decent results from an iPhone attached to the eyepiece using a special adaptor. That may be the quickest / easiest way to try it out without having to buy a telescope AND an expensive DSLR camera.
Best of luck with your investigation - I hope your friend appreciates it all. I am sure they will.
Um.. yeah... no... That radio is not going to allow you to hear anything on the 2 Meter band related to the ISS.
Here is info on How to hear the ISS (AMSAT)
You'll need a ham radio rig to do this. You can get a very inexpensive setup - e.g. something like this.
Baofeng UV-5R Two Way Radio Dual Band 144-148/420-450Mhz Walkie Talkie
Note: Those radios are capable of transmitting - although you must have a ham radio license to do that. So... don't do that.
Then there is the question of what you expect to hear from the ISS.
Please check out the link above to AMSAT on what kinds of things you can hear.
telescope iPhone adapter and this is what I’m using
You have to make sure focus and exposure are fixed - so the in-built camera app is likely going to be mostly useless.
Obviously - expose for the moon - but you need a high enough shutter speed to make sure you capture the ISS as it zips in front of the moon in less than 1 second.
Check out the NightCap app - as that should allow the kind of control you need.
Also - Practice well before the transit so you know how everything works.
Can you say a little more about how you will be attaching the iPhone to the Dob? Hopefully, you have one of those sturdy eye-piece adaptors (e.g. the NexYZ from Celestron)
Good luck! I hope the timing/weather/camera setup works for you. Please post your results.
Hi I am a game developer and created a Cardboard VR App for Android where you can experience Spacecraft, Rockets, Satellites & Rovers up close and in real size.
You can find the App here and if you have Questions just ask me:

They are very good actually — i would recommend them.

I use this one: ISS Detector, which does more than just the ISS - it also tells you when and where you can see flashes from Iridium satellites, and even shows what planets are visible. I think some of these are from paid plugins, but I don't think it costs much to add them.
There's a sky map built-in showing where exactly to look, and alarms and so on you can set to remind you to go outside.
Maybe there are others equally good or better, but this one seems to do the job for me.
