This little handheld fan, which fit easily in a fannypack ,has saved me on more vacations and trips that I can count, including a few weeks ago in Italy, and I am SURE the Italian summer could use one.
I am a Canadian currently in Italy using this SIM Card recommended by another Redditor and it’s working great. I changed mine out on the plane and once we landed in Italy it was working right away. I didn’t have to worry about dealing with anything here and it’s good for 14 days (longer if you register the SIM but I haven’t done that yet). Good luck!

I used https://www.amazon.com/Orange-Holiday-Europe-New-Package/dp/B07RXYH2NW/
Popped it in when we landed, it worked really well for me on my recent trip to Germany & Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome, and Cinque Terre).

Well, I first saw it on 1 of the few documentaries i watched about Venice where they called it that. Then if you look under City of Light (sorry singular not plural) disambiguation on wiki it is listed as 1 of many cities commonly referred to as that. Then I just found this book as well as a couple other sites quickly mentioning it that way. https://www.amazon.com/Venice-City-Water-Light-Naxos/dp/B00LP9EQ46?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_dls
If you're looking for non-committal lodging, I recommend checking out hotels.com or booking.com. Both have plenty of options that are pay later and free cancellation. I too am visiting in April and have booked all of my lodging this way (although at this point we've decided to go no matter what).
As u/lrpttnll stated, it's very likely that restrictions will only continue to ease up over the next few months. I suspect April will be a very different climate than today. Although I don't particularly mind needing to wear a mask everywhere and show my vaccine pass if it means I get to travel. Just my two cents!
I use https://www.thetrainline.com when booking most of my trains in Europe. It might be a $1 or 2 more than booking directly with the train company. But the convenience is it worth it for me.
Note about Italian trains - smaller regional trains are notorious for being late and/or just not even showing up. Allow extra time for train travel in Italy.
